Industry News: Trump's Tariff Threat Turned Out To Be A Farce
Robert Hall replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Industry News
I'd assume it's because building a newly designed aircraft is much more profitable to defense contractors and the politicians they own. -
My family's 1859 farmhouse is sort of like that..big square living room and dining room on the first floor, two bedrooms on the 2nd floor with the stairs between them and no hallway. The only hallway is on the first floor in part of the house that was clearly an addition at some point in the past (where the kitchen, bathroom and a 3rd bedroom are). Been in the family 51 years now..

Maybe a triplex? Or converted into one after it was built. I've definitely seen strange, non-standard configurations in old houses....looked at a couple houses from the 50s that were about 2000 sq ft and only had one exterior door--a front door, and no door accessing the backyard...and another that had a door accessing the backyard, but was in the garage.

Went to a fun show this evening at the House of Blues in Cleveland... 3 bands-- BT's synthpop/electronic outfit 'All Hail the Silence', 'Men Without Hats' (best known for the 80s song 'Safety Dance'--didn't realize they were from Montreal), and the headliner--Howard Jones. Saw HoJo last year, but that was a different venue and was just him and piano, this was a full band w/ lots of synthesizers and his keytar. Great evening.

Rainy afternoon, out running weekend errands, took a route home I normally don't go...saw an old Ultra Van RV sitting on a used car lot (these had a Corvair engine, I think?). Also saw a clean dark blue mid 90s Roadmaster wagon and a yellow '16+ Camaro SS.

Sitting in my Jeep in my driveway a couple weeks ago, on a rare sunny dry Spring day..been so wet lately. Yesterday was nice, raining again today.

Hope they win... tired of seeing the Warriors win.. and the prospect of a team winning their 1st championship is really cool.

I'm a casual sports fan, watch mostly motorsports and football on TV. I find I generally enjoy sports more in person at an event than on TV. I used to go to Colorado Avalanche hockey games when I lived in Denver w/ friends, and enjoyed them. A big part of going to live sporting events I enjoy is the social aspect..friends, beer, hot dogs, popcorn, pretzels, etc. Same with baseball (Rockies, Diamondbacks, Indians) , basketball (Nuggets, Suns, Cavaliers), and football (Broncos, Cardinals, Browns).. went to a few pro soccer matches in Denver that were fun also.. I do know from my Canadian friends in the US that hockey in Canada is a Big Deal, really the national sport more than others. I have heard about Hockey Night in Canada (actually watched some) and Don Cherry.

GMC News: Syclone returns for Limited run in 2019
Robert Hall replied to G. David Felt's topic in GMC Trucks
Meh, one of those blink-and-you-miss-it low volume novelties. Only making 100, probably already pre-sold. Most will end up crashed within hours of delivery or put in storage. -

Ford's factory tuning brand was SVT, I don't recall an SVE then. SVE used to be SLP, it's Ed Hamburger's company. http://specialtyvehicleengineering.com/about-sve/ -
Mercedez Benz News Mercedes Introduces the new GLB
Robert Hall replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Mercedes-Benz
Well, they already have the GX w/ 3 rows..but it's a BOF oldie and the RX350L is 5 inches longer...wonder how they compare in interior space. The GX and LX have the same short 112.2 inch wheelbase. I'm surprised they haven't done a Lexus version of the Seq, but it's old also.- 72 replies

Random road encounter... I know the 'Jeep wave' is a thing amongst Wrangler owners, don't really see it with other Jeeps, though. I was sitting at a light today at the front of the queue, and across the intersection from me was a black Grand Cherokee, pretty much identical to mine. The driver flashed his headlights at me. Not sure if it was a variation on the Jeep wave or what.

I assume the 3rd row in compact and midsize SUVs are for children, not adults.- 72 replies

I can't imagine GM doing that, though...they seem very committed to generic FWD/transverse appliances. I'm surprised Ford went with a RWD unibody approach.- 72 replies

GM doesn't do RWD unibody crossovers. FWD/transverse is their sweet spot, because they can share them across four brands and many models...keep them generic and cheap to build.- 72 replies

They had BOF platforms---they were already making the 4Runner, Sequoia, and Land Cruiser. But they realized they could make more car-like crossovers from unibody FWD car platforms that would be more appealing to women, and it ended being a means of printing money... Jeep had the unibody SUVs long before that, but they were purpose-built RWD based platforms, not generic FWD sedan mediocrity.

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes Introduces the new GLB
Robert Hall replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Mercedes-Benz
I think there is a typo in the original post above, it says The GLA can be purchased as a 5-seater or 7-seater with a second row that can slide fore and aft up to 6 inches. I think that should read GLB. Another sentence references the GLC, when it should be GLB. Nomenclature confusion?- 72 replies

I've always been a bit of automotive generalist..I have my favorites, but I've never been a single-brand or maker fanboi like some. Though I grew up in a Ford family, I've found vehicles from other brands that I like....several '90s Acuras I like, BMWs (esp. the pre-Bangle era), M-Bs, plenty of GM models, and of course many FCA models, especially from Dodge and Jeep.

E codes are just the platform generation codes that BMW fans use to refer to specific generations...no different than Mustang fans referring to Fox bodies, SN95 and S550, M-B fans with W126, W124 (both favorites of mine), w140s, etc..or Corvette fans talking about C5, C6, C7, etc or Camaro fans talking about 5th gen or 6th gen models.
