April (Fools) Carspotting - cars and/or fools
Robert Hall replied to trinacriabob's topic in The Lounge
There is a rusted, denty white G8 around here I see once in a while.. -
One other car that I thought pulls off the 4dr coupe look well is the BMW 6 series Gran Coupe, esp. in M6 trim. Sleeker than the 5 series.

The first CLS is still one of the sexiest sedans ever, IMO...love that shape..and 2nd gen is beautiful also..the 3rd gen looks great also...It doesn't look good in some colors like the stupid matte colors or so-predictable and beyond lame white w/ black wheels (can the damn white w/ black wheels fad please end??) but in brown is stunning. I love the arched roofline and low windows of all 3 windows.

The fastback roofline and short trunk is supposedly for aerodynamics...or it's part of a vast product marketing conspiracy to minimize trunk size and get more people into CUVs/SUVs...

The Bolt is a one-box monospace. Tall hatchback. Car? CUV? Transport pod? It's something...

The odd thing is only the left side seemed to look iridescent. The hood, front fascia, roof and rear fascia looked a normal blue-green. Didn't see the right side. -

The DoorDash dasher tonight was driving a previous gen Malibu in an iridescent blue-green...never seen that color Malibu before, maybe custom paint. -
Looking at my reality, an EV with a home charger would work great for me...since I work from home, i don't drive much Mon-Fri. On the weekends I rarely take a road trip over 250 miles. Though I'm probably not the ideal customer.

Yes, if they had a decent sized EV CUV that looks like a normal CUV (the Bolt is a humpy tall hatchback), sales would be better.

Ford Invests $500M in Rivian to Gain Platform Access
Robert Hall replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Rivian
'may you live in interesting times'. It really is going to be interesting to see what the auto industry looks like in terms of product mix and powertrains in 5 years, 10 years, 15 years...-

Yes, it definitely had that feel like the original CLS...a sleek 4dr, with a 2dr-ish roofline. And an alternative to the similar sized, more sedate 88 and 98..the original Aurora, the last Toronado, and the last Riviera might be my favorite '90s GM designs...all interesting and distinctive designs. I liked the angular and clean Seville/STS and Eldorado of the mid to late 90s also. The odd thing is all of these cars were FWD w/ transverse engine, which is a contradiction to my preferences in cars. A paradox I struggle with.

Cost-cutting? Smaller wheels and tires are cheaper. I still can't wrap my head around a 4cyl in large vehicles...4cyl to me is for small cars and CUVs..subcompacts and compacts..I wouldn't want one in a full size truck, or a luxury car for that matter (though Volvo seems to pull it off). But that's just me..I've never bought into 4 cyls in midsize or larger vehicles.

The ‘coupe’ ones are usually different models from the regular 4dr sedan in a model range, though. CLS compared to E-class. A7 compared to A6. CLA compared to A class. And the ‘4dr coupes’ often have frameless door glass like the CLS. The Sonata is just a regular midsize sedan.

This just seems like another mainstream fastback 4dr like the Malibu, Fusion, Accord, and countless others, rather than a 'coupe' style.

Not sure the styling is an improvement over the current model. I don't think I'd choose it over the 2020 Explorer if I wanted a 3 row midsize crossover.

Interesting..I don't see any MB in the styling or proportions, the only things in common I see are it has 4 wheels and 4 doors. The greenhouse reminds me of the Azera (which is no more?).

When I search the inventory at my local CDJR dealer, I see the VIN numbers listed with each vehicle they have in stock. The photos appear to be stock corporate promo photos on some of them, though. Some vehicles have real pics.

I have a feeling we will only see EVs from GM on purpose-built EV platforms, not legacy platforms.

The white roof, white mirrors and similar proportions definitely give it a Mini feel..
