Holden Halts Production of Commodore and Equinox
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Heritage Marques
I wonder if it alienated some previous loyal Commodore buyers. Going from a home grown RWD V6/V8 model with a lot of performance variants to a German built 4 cyl FWD sedan would be a big culture shock. -
Today was the latest adventure w/ my sister's '06 Cadillac STS...she gets up early on Mondays to drive to Toledo for the week (current contract is over there). I went out to put her luggage in the car and noticed the remote would open the rear doors but not the the front doors. I managed to get the driver's door open w/ the key (seemed odd to do that on a car w/ a remote), and it wouldn't start. Called AAA, they jumped it, said the 600 CCA battery was only putting out 89 amps, they charged it up and got it running. Said there was an 'open diode' and something was draining the battery. I had to shuffle the cars around and get her Trax out of the garage. So it was now about 7am, the garage she uses opened at 8, so I drove around for an hour--got some breakfast--didn't want to shut the car off-- and took it the shop. They later called back, said it was the alternator. They had to order one..should have it fixed tomorrow, going to go ahead and get the brakes (drums and rotors) and shocks done also.

Those Broughams were great. An Aunt of mine that passed away a few years ago had one, a silver '95 IIRC. Not sure what became of it, her sons (my cousins) are both Toyota men. My late Father was a Town Car man, drove them from the mid 70s until his last one, a blue '96. Very comfortable and quiet cars.

Front bumper, grille and headlights kind of resemble a '69-70 Shelby or '71-74 Javelin...

Lol..can't recall if it was this same Knight Rider or another, but I recall a Ford pickup also....maybe that was the 'Team Knight Rider' series.

In my high school in the mid 80s there were some 60s-70s cars ('65 Coupe de Ville, '65 Mustang coupe and '65 Mustang convertible (brother and sister), '67 Mustang 2+2, '68 Camaro, '69 Chevelle, '69 Charger, ''70 Chevelle, 71 Road Runner, VW Beetles, a VW Thing, '72 Gran Torino, '69 Porsche 911, '76 Electra 225 coupe). Even a couple 50s cars--an Austin-Healey convertible and a '57 Bel Air 4dr. But there were a lot more late 70s and 80s cars--hand-me-down parents cars like an '81 Olds 88 diesel (he later did an SBC swap), '80 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham d' Elegance diesel (triple silver!), '81 Pontiac Bonneville, '82 Caprice wagon, etc. And also a bunch of kids with new cars like the Monte SS, Grand National, several Mustang GTs and LX 5.0s, several Camaro IROC-Zs and a couple Trans Ams/GTAs, a Chrysler Laser, a Chrysler Le Baron woodie convertible, a BMW 3 series convertible, and a Mercedes 560 SEC AMG and a Ferrari 308 GTS...

I had a bunch of friends in high school w/ the '78-87 A/G coupes.. a couple Grands Prix--a two tone green '78 and a dark blue '80, a blue '83 Monte Carlo SS, a maroon '86 Monte Carlo SS, a couple early 80s Cutlass Supremes, a faded blue '78 Regal, an '87 Grand National..rode in several of them back in the day. Good looking cars for the most part. One car of the A/G coupes I liked that I haven't seen forever is the '78-80 Grand Am coupe..

Kurt Vile, 'Loading Zones'. Catchy tune w/ good guitar parts. The video is fun, has a red Chrysler TC by Maserati and a red '77 Grand Prix...

Pacer and a Javelin. Here is a '70 AMX, round dash vents. Though I don't see much correlation to later Pontiacs.

A turbo 4 would be sufficient, I think...these aren't vehicles for enthusiasts, just lease appliances.

Quarter window is intentionally Camaroish in shape. Blind spot, but not as bad as the GMC with the opera window there.

The 68-70 Javelin had a pair of circular vents in the center of the dash.

Javelins had a neat dash design, esp. the 2nd gen models. Haven't seen one in forever..plus they were quite successful in the Trans Am racing series back in the day. Haven't seen one on the road in forever. One did pop up on TV recently in 'Better Call Saul'.

Nah, I've always thought it would be a cool name for an powerful off roader (or muscle car). Or a metal band.

TrailBlazer would be good to see on something w/ off-road chops...like a Colorado ZR2 based SUV. Or a name like TrailBlaster Defecator Extreme for an over-the-top Hummer style SUV.

Yeah, personally I think they should have used the Blazer name on something with strong off-road creds...like an SUV version of the Colorado ZR2. This one could have been named 'Camaro Cross' or 'Captiva'...

I can see the FWD models being the bigger sellers in the SunBelt...places like Florida, Texas, AZ...

The Defender ATs have been good in snow for me, but then again I really haven't driven much in snow since I've been back here. Since I work out of the house I can stay in when the weather is really bad.

That's not a Trax, that's an old Saturn Vue. Much larger than a Trax.

They are reliable, but maintenance is expensive as they age...remember the old adage, if you can't afford a new Mercedes, you can't afford a used one. Old German cars are money pits.

I think the mileage on my GC went up when I switched from the original Goodyear Forteras to Michelins Defender ATs about 9k miles ago...

On the surface, it does seem to contradict the German approach taken by Schreyer. They have good brand distinction styling-wise between Hyundai and Kia, I think Genesis needs more distinctive styling--they still kind of look like fancy Hyundais. Some of Hyundai's front ends seem derivative of other brands--- the Tucson and Edge grilles look very similar, and the new Santa Fe kind of resembles the DS 7 front end.
