  1. I'm no fan of front plates either--they look cleaner without one. But I do know the Ohio Highway Patrol and various local jurisdictions are sticklers about the front plates. Oddly, for a car originally from So Cal (Huntington Beach), my Jeep didn't have a front bracket.
  2. Today in NE Ohio. I went to the BMV, got my Ohio driver's license, then to the title office to transfer my AZ title, then back to the BMV to get my registration and plates, then to Spitzer Chrysler Dodge Ram Jeep to get a license plate bracket installed...all before my workday began..woo hoo..I feel like a local now... Also called State Farm to switch my AZ policy to an OH policy--premiums for 6 months are 40% of what they were in the Valley of Dirt.
  3. Gakk...marginally better than the current 5 series GT, but nothing like the current 6 series Gran Coupe (BMW best looking car, IMO)..
  4. IIRC, David Halberstam's 'The Reckoning' gave a good overview of Deming's efforts in Japan...read that book probably 20 years ago.
  5. I can't recall the last time I've seen a ZDX...pretty obscure. I saw the occasional Murano CC around the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, and a few Crosstours (knew someone that owned one). I actually like of like the looks of the Crosstour, kind of a tall Accord hatchback...another obscure crossover is the Toyota Venza..don't see those very often.
  6. True..though plenty of snow up in northern AZ....but for most people in the Phoenix area, CUVs/SUVs are people haulers for around town...
  7. The most recent VW I drove (this Passat) had a large plastic dial on the side of the seat by the b-pillar IIRC...was awkward to reach. I assume the higher trim levels have normal power recline controls?
  8. The Avenir pricing is in the range of other luxury range topper versions of mid size 2 and 3 row wagons such as the Explorer Platinum or GC Summit.
  9. Random anecdote--a couple that are old friends of mine who had been lifelong Japanese car buyers recently replaced their '04 Lexus ES and '08 Honda Pilot with a '17 Regal and a '17 Enclave.
  10. Interesting that Olds used a Pontiac engine in 75. Why not the Olds 350? Did they have the 403 then that was later used in some Pontiacs?
  11. Speaking of VW engines, I read an article the other day about the VR6...I didn't realize they were still building the narrow-angle/single head 6 cyl, I thought they had long ago moved on to a normal V6.
  12. Definitely different, a bit weird, but not weird-ugly like the Juke or Leaf..
  13. I wonder what kind of impact and where would have split the Impala like that...bizzare
  14. That's a very odd perspective. Very isolationist and unrealistic in a global economy.
  15. Like in AZ... it seems most CUVs and SUVs sold there are 2wd.
  16. A bit much hyperbole, isn't it? You seem to have some weird hate of German cars and fans of those cars...
  17. Not sure what discussion of luxury marques has to do with Honda, but Mercedes-Benz has the advantage of a broad range--they have many coupes, convertibles, sports cars, CUVs, and SUVs...Cadillac's line is very limited--only one compact coupe and no convertibles.
  18. Monochromatic trim seems like a 'sporty' trim of the late 80s-early 90s, and blackout or black chrome seems to be a Millenial thing...I don't get it....regular chrome looks much better, IMO...it's hilarious--I'm in a FB group for Grand Cherokees and the most common posts are people asking about how to black out their chrome trim... black or body color trim just looks cheap to me, like a base trim level, not premium.
  19. Honda seems to avoid fleeting out the Accord. I have yet to encounter one in the rental fleets. In the last 18 months or so, I've rented the Malibu (current and previous), Sonata, Camry, Altima, Passat, and Fusion.
  20. ...and both of my Jeeps have been RWD biased SUVs..and built in Detroit (I think the older WJs where built there, I know the WK2s are).
  21. New Wrangler coming for '18, pickup version to follow in '19 is the current rumor..]but it has been rumored for years and years...given FCA's current chaos and confusion-driven leadership, I'm skeptical it will happen...I'll believe it when I see them on the lot at Spitzer Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (my local dealer in the CLE)
  22. Looks too much like a Ford..
  23. They are chasing the market...CUVs and SUVs continue to grow in the market, and fewer and fewer buyers actually care about driving experience. They are succeeding at delivering premium/luxury CUVs/SUVs targeting the mainstream UMC buyers/leasors like Acura, Cadillac, Merc, Lexus, etc, as the performance sports sedan market that was their core fades away. Anecdotally, I saw a lot of X3s and X5s in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area--they seem to be as common as Merc SUVs, Lexus CUVs, and JGCs there...maybe 8 times out of 10 they are black or white. I have seen a number of them around the Cleveland area as well.
  24. Saw a really sharp red w/ white stripes '71 Chevelle SS for sale today. Also saw a new Lexus RX in the Home Depot parking lot---ordinary luxo midsize CUV with weird styling, but oh that root beer brown paint...would love to have my Jeep in that exact color..(Jeep now has two browns for GCs, but nothing like that).
