Cadillac News: General Motors Exec: ELR Is Not Our Tesla Competitor
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
The ELR is their Volt coupe, not their Model S. I've only seen one ELR so far in person, in a metro area where I typically see 2-3 Tesla Model Ses in a week...- 17 replies

Cool...sort of Range Rover's answer to the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, Merc ML AMG, BMW MX5 or Porsche Cayenne Turbo.- 13 replies

Ram News: Ram Trucks Executive: First Truck Manufacturer With 30 MPG Wins
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Ram
Better aerodynamics would help..git rid off the tall, blunt front ends and go for something more tapered and sloping... A Ram ProMaster double cab would be cool as an alternative to the monster trucks.. But that is also only FWD which would be a non-starter for 99.9999% of U.S. truck buyers.... no matter how much it would actually meet their needs. Good point.. though some are RWD---I don't know if the new generation is offered both ways, but the previous Ford Transit was offered in FWD or RWD. -
99% of drivers just want something cheap, economical and reliable..they don't care about styling.

Seems like an improvement over the gaudy styling of the current model...the regular current one is ok, but the hybrid model front end is disgusting.

It's a boring name, sounds like a trim level, like Chevy's LTZ...'Fleetwood Brougham' would be a much better name, IMO.- 68 replies

Opel/Vauxhall News: Rumorpile: Opel Ampera To Disappear In 2016
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Opel/Vauxhall
Volts are interesting..a.coworker of mine has had his for a year, still loves it and is a vocal cheerleader for it on volt forums online. The biggest negatives I see about the car is the cramped interior and poor outward visibility. -

Why does Gm not build a hot hatch?
Robert Hall replied to A Horse With No Name's topic in The Lounge
Would be nice, but GM seems to be struggling to survive now.... any budget for niche performance vehicles is probably eaten up by Cadillac, Camaro and Corvette variations... I am surprised their hasn't been a performance version of the Cruze made in any market AFAIK...I would have thought they would have capitalized on it's racing success with a performance model. -
The Ampera has been cancelled. With Australia soon gone from the picture with the folding of Holden, I would think European factories have sufficient output for the UK and Ireland..and Thailand handles the RHD Asian truck market. As far as other RHD markets, does GM have any market in India? I would think they would be building Sonics, Sparks or Opel microcars there.. I doubt if there is enough volume in the UK, Ireland, OZ or NZ to make it cost effective to build RHD versions of the Camaro, Corvette or Cadillacs in the US and ship overseas....(RHD FWD appliances for those markets are sourced elsewhere in Europe or Asia).

If the new Lincoln compact CUV is successful, I can see them responding... Merc has the GLA coming, BMW has the X1, Lexus has the NX, infiniti probably has something coming (beyond the strange EX).

Buick News: Buick Envision Teased, Premieres In China Later This Year
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
So why don't all those traditionally-car-only companies stick with cars only?? Because they go where the money is...CUVs and SUVs are profit centers...not that there is anything new or surprising about these brands having CUVs or SUVs--they've had them for 10-15 years or more now. Nothing new. -
Yes, the short lived McLaren MP4-12C spyder...
