  1. Looks like a Vespa 400..
  2. ..and it seems it was with the X-bodies in '73 where they got really serious about badge engineering a model across 4 divisions..same car w/ minor trim differences, shared 6 cyl..though they each retained their divisional V8s for a while.
  3. True...it's not like the olden days where GM had distinct engines for each division...always wondered how they pulled that off, seems like it would very expensive to do..
  4. Would be nice...and w/ a straight 6 they would probably need a longer front end, which is always a good thing.. I doubt it. The CTS front end is pretty long already. I wonder if the firewall to radiator length is enough for a straight 6, though...a bit longer than a 4..
  5. ^ Never heard of the Chevy Caravan. A trim level on the van or something? Edit: something in Brazil according to WP...
  6. The Lexus RX shares it FWD platform with a Toyota, nothing different there...premium brands that are paired with mass market brands share parts---Audi's SUVs share parts with VW. Infiniti with Nissan, Acura with Honda, Lincoln with Ford. BMW and M-B are unique in that they don't have mainstream brands to share with (Mini and Smart are low volume niche brands) so they don't have to compromise.
  7. Someone that visits my next door neighbor often has a white '90s Buick Park Avenue..it was recently in an accident that cracked the plastic left front fender, so it's now covered in white duct tape.
  8. I guess I haven't kept up w/ Subarus..I didn't realize the current WRX is still based on the previous generation Impreza whilst the regular Impreza was redesigned a couple model years ago. I just don't see them very often, not as popular in AZ as they are in CO I think...
  9. Great review. The 300 is at the top of my new car shopping list...thinking pretty seriously about one. Just not sure which trim level or powertrain to go with.
  10. Cool..may their always a place in the market for wonderfully wretched excess...now if only Cadillac had built the Sixteen...
  11. Would be nice...and w/ a straight 6 they would probably need a longer front end, which is always a good thing..
  12. I think it was because they downsized and cheapened the E-class and created the smaller CLK coupe in the mid 90s, they needed the smaller packaging of a V6 for those models, as well as the SLK and ML s which were under development then...
  13. Maybe they will build a straight 8 from this architecture...
  14. The other Volt fire IIRC was in someone's garage, but I think that was due to a homemade electric car that was parked beside it.
  15. Maybe it's for manufacturing simplicity/cost savings of parts sharing w/ a family of inline engines. Also, like BMW, they get some exclusivity to having an in line 6 in a world where V6s appear in everything from mainstream appliances to luxury cars.
  16. Fancy
  17. Plymouth Suburban also--their full size station wagons from the '50s to the '70s..
  18. Yes....'55-57 it was used on the Nomad equivalent 2dr specialty wagon, but after that it was pretty much across the board...
  19. There was also the '80-81 LeMans Safari, '82-83 Bonneville Safari (renosed/rebadged LeMans), and '82-? J2000/Sunbird Safari. What I was referring to was the B-body Safari that lasted until '89 (it outlasted the Parisienne sedan by 3 years). Basically all Pontiac wagons in the '80s were called Safaris, I think..
  20. At least one error I noticed--the Pontiac Safari name lasted until '89. I've heard of all of these except for the DeSoto Seville. A few others--at different times there was a Lincoln Capri, Ford Capri, and Mercury Capri. A Cadillac Calais and an Olds Calais. A Lincoln-Zephyr, Ford Zephyr, Mercury Zephyr, then a Lincoln Zephyr. A Dodge Challenger and a Mitsubishi Challenger (SUV). A Plymouth Sebring then a Chrysler Sebring A Dodge Aspen then a Chrysler Aspen
  21. It does sound like the Tesla in particular is succeptable to damage to its battery pack from 'road debris'. Is the floor under the battery pack made of thin plastic or cardboard? Sounds like it needs armor in that area or cast iron.
  22. Saw parked in a freeway breakdown lane--a black Peugeot 505. Haven't seen one in ages...
