Dodge News: Rumorpile: Dodge Dart Coming With A V6
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Dodge
Well, there have been rumors of a Dart SRT version... -
Yeah, this is the kind of thing we could speculate on endlessly, but since it's not where GM is going, it's kind of a moot point...nothing to see here, move on...
-
Has it really been, though? Beyond a few enthusiasts, is the really any market here for it? I can understand in Australia where they have had continous production of the ute for over 6 decades. But the El Camino has been gone for 25 years.. Do you have any any evidence to prove that? Demise of the Camino coincided with the cheap gas and cheap full size trucks in the late 80s along with GM's notorious habit of letting it rot and with Roger's push for United Association of W Bodies. Do you have any evidence to prove otherwise? I just don't see much of a market for a 2dr, 2 seat car/truck w/ limited capability compared to a comparably price full size pickup. Just skeptical...I think it would be yet another GM flop like the SSR was. So it is conjectural at its best, hence the rhetorical question. Well, since GM isn't bringing it here, they don't see a business plan for it either. So...

Dodge News: Rumorpile: Dodge Dart Coming With A V6
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Dodge
Which would make sense..I've read the Avenger/200 replacement would probably be on a stretched Dart platform... -
We don't know that the 3000 SS would be profitable...they may lose money on them. Who knows...

A V6 Dart might be planned as the Avenger replacement? -

GM will offer Internet Access in 2015 models
Robert Hall replied to riviera74's topic in General Motors
The obvious use case for internet in the car is for passenger use..so passengers can surf on their laptops or tablets w/o going through a phone hot spot or other separate wi-fi hardware...use the car's hot spot. -
6 different bodystyles, though...lots of variety...4dr sedan, wagon, hatchback, 2dr coupe, convertible, 4dr coupe...same with the 5 and 6 series.
-
Check the facts..the 4 series Gran Coupe is the 4dr coupe, not a hatchback. The hatchback is the 3 series Gran Turismo. It's the same strategy w/ the 5 and 6...the 5 series has a Gran Turismo hatchback, the 6 has a Gran Coupe 4dr coupe. Walt's point was regarding the door count, not the hatch/non-hatch feature. Perhaps, but he specifically said hatchback (in bold above). Not the case w/ the Gran Coupe. The Gran Turismo is a hatchback.

It is interesting how BMW is able to leverage synergies to create multiple models out of one basic compact line...while other car makers may offer only a 4dr and maybe a coupe in their compact RWD luxury line, BMW will have 6 body styles across the 3/4 range..

GM will offer Internet Access in 2015 models
Robert Hall replied to riviera74's topic in General Motors
Not sure why you would need it (except for in-car in-dash services) since you can use your phone for internet access. A fun example from real life-- 4 of my coworkers drove from Phoenix to Vegas today in a Passat CC.. 3 were busy on their laptops using a wi-fi hot spot from an iPhone..we stayed in touch via Google Hangouts, not that different from working w/ them from home. -

Mercedez Benz News Rumorpile: More Vans From Mercedes-Benz
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Mercedes-Benz
Who knows, maybe compact luxury vans will be the new growth niche after compact luxury CUVs become passe... Lincoln needs to get out ahead of the market and do an MK* version of the new-generation '14 Transit Connect.- 23 replies

LA Auto Show: The Veil Drops On The 2015 Lincoln MKC: Comments
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in LA Auto Show
Well, the 2.3 makes more power than the V6 in the RDX (perhaps the main competitor of this)... I'm surprised Lexus hasn't announced a small CUV based on the Rav4 yet..seems like they would be into this niche. I guess the Encore, Q3, X1 and GLA might be considered competitors also..- 26 replies

I've read that for '15 the V6 will be the base engine (unchanged from current) and the 2.3 will be an option.- 26 replies

Anyone ID this circa 1957 (Italian?) mini-car?
Robert Hall replied to balthazar's topic in The Lounge
Looks like a Vespa 400.. -
..and it seems it was with the X-bodies in '73 where they got really serious about badge engineering a model across 4 divisions..same car w/ minor trim differences, shared 6 cyl..though they each retained their divisional V8s for a while.

True...it's not like the olden days where GM had distinct engines for each division...always wondered how they pulled that off, seems like it would very expensive to do..
