  1. On my way to airport this afternoon I got to ride in a Prius taxi...233k miles, some interior trim scuffed, some coming off..rear hatch sqeaked quite a bit..suspension noisy. Lots of room in the back, w/ the passenger front seat all the way forward. Not as hellacool as a Google self-driving Prius taxi would be, though. From SFO to my hotel tonight, I rode in a nice black Town Car..
  2. Sue Google, I guess....what about when cars eventually are fully autonomous...I can see parents sending a car to a school to drop off/pick up the kiddies...
  3. Isn't the 500 more in the smaller subsubcompact niche with the Spark and Mini? Or do you mean the 500L.
  4. Fahrt (German for journey or ride)
  5. It's pretty sweet...I think a convertible version is coming also?
  6. Looks like it's Firefox on a Mac FTW!! Will have to install FF on my Windows laptop. Firefox didn't work either in Windows. Must be some Win 8 security settings or other nonsense.
  7. Totally Agree with you, rather commute in an hr or two than live like a sardine in the smelly cities. Not for me...I've done rural and small towns in the past, doesn't work for me. The good jobs in my field are in the cities or suburban office parks, I like to be close to everything...I like having my Starbucks a mile from home, a good grocery, hardware store, Target, PetSmart, a large variety of restaurants close by, 15-20 min to a major airport, and keep the commute under 40 minutes...
  8. That used to work for me, not any more..if I try that, I just end up with a link ine post, like this. chrome on Win 8 IE 10 on Win 8 Firefox on Mac Firefox on Win 8
  9. Yeah, Phoenix and it's burbs have bus systems and light rail, but to use any of them for my typical use cases (home to office, office to client offices, home to airport, office to airport, etc) would double or triple my commute time...just not practical. Not to mention I don't want to be out walking around in the gawdawful heat we have 6 months a year. Now when I lived in Denver, I did use the light rail quite a bit, though not to go to/from work but for getting around downtown and to/from downtown from the burbs for events (baseball, hockey, concerts, etc) and nights out.. My next move (likely in 2015 if not sooner) will be likely to an area with better PT options. Back to the topic, though, I can understand the utility of self-driving cars...so many individual travel endpoints in a trip don't fit within traditional PT systems...so if a consumer is too lazy/distracted to drive themselves (and don't want to use a taxi or car service) then maybe self-driving cars fit that need...
  10. True...though living in the middle of Phoenix I still drive everywhere. Public transportation would be inconvenient for me...there are no use cases in my current reality context where I need to use public transportation. If I were in a different metro area where I commuted from the burbs into a city downtown with really bad traffic and a good train or bus infrastructure (like Chicago or San Francisco), then I would consider using public transportation..
  11. I'm all for public transportation---keep the non-serious drivers on buses, trains, etc. The problem is, the US is so vast with sprawling metro areas and there are people living in the sticks far from public transportation. Speaking of alternate transportation solutions, I've seen a bunch of the Lyft cars around lately, with the stupid pink hipster mustaches on the front..
  12. Ahh...found it..what a poor UI design..weak. I never even noticed the 'more reply options'... Those post options items on the right should be in the same row as the other edit options like Link, Image, etc.
  13. Problem is the many (most?) young drivers have no interest in actually driving..they just want to get from point A to point B with as little effort as possible without interfering with their social media consumption...the little turds have to keep up with the latest Miley Cyrus/Justin Beiber/Kardashian news, after all.. and Google wants them in Google self driving cars so they can post more advertising to them.
  14. Hmmm....what do the buttons look like/where are you seeing them? I see two rows at the top of the editor---top row has Font, Size, etc on the left Paste options on the top right....second row has bold, italic, underline, link, image, etc. The humor of all of this is I build web applications...yet can't find a particular button on a page..(I don't design user interfaces, though--I'm more of a wiring/plumbing guy--application integration).
  15. Hmmm... I don't see that button. All I see is Link and Image. I know I used to be able to do this, but it seems to have changed w/ the last update.
  16. I thought this used to work, I've done it before...but there doesn't seem to be an obvious way to embed a YouTube video in a post...if I put the URL of the video in a link I end up with a link...
  17. Brian Eno's 'An Ending (Ascent)'. This track is 30 years old, I discovered it a few years ago when it was used in Top Gear (actually in 2 episodes). Magnificent and moving... this is a track I can listen to over and over
  18. If I was shopping in this price point, I'd rather have a larger low mileage used car...these subcompacts are just so depressing for the most part.
  19. Lots of possibilities.
  20. The future is coming....
  21. Saw a very sad looking modified Buick Lucerne today--looked like it had been modded by someone with no taste that was blind. Had blingy chrome spoked wheels on wide whitewall tires sticking 3-4 inches out of the wheelwells, and the whole car was painted a nasty flourescent blue that looked like it had been applied w/ a paint brush--over the tailights, grille, trim, etc..
  22. Yeah, that ones a must for me...I need to order some of these from my favorite vendors (milezone.com and 1stopdiecast.com have 'em, I think)..
  23. I haven't used the maps much on ios7 yet. I recall being in San Francisco a while back w/ coworkers and one of my colleagues looked up a bar on his ios6 phone and it mapped into the middle of the bay. I found the bar just fine w/ Google maps on my Android phone. Will be in SF again next week for a conference, will have to test ios7 maps....
  24. They need to chrome the big bulging wheel arches and maybe the lower parts of the doors..
  25. Maybe even a VW Up! based city car, ala the Aston Martin Cygnet.. The possibilities in the brand expansion arms race are endless...Over at Rolls Royce, maybe a Mini-based city car eventually?
