  1. MB does make a full size SUV, the GL is full size and the #1 selling full size luxury SUV. I see GMC Terrain in the front and sides with all those straight lines. Gl might have out sold the Escalade by just 2500 units, but it cannot pull a trailer like the Escalade and does not have as much interior space. Plus the maintenance cost on the MB compared to the Cadillac SUV is huge and I would go with Escalade which has a better reliability record. MB might have cutting edge tech, but the cost of keeping it functional is way higher. Course in this group, most have the disposable cash to pay when things break. M-B buyers also often lease so they are in and out in 3 years or so..they don't hold on to them until they get old and become money pits...
  2. Yep...all downhill from here.
  3. I would agree, I remember when Jeep showed off that very cool 2 seat 2 door open buggy and it was radical and very cool. MB could lead rather than follow and create a very new Niche auto. I remember seeing this in a car mag a few years ago, thought it was such a cool idea...
  4. It would be more interesting if they did something radical--a high riding 4x4 2dr, 2 seat convertible w/ folding hardtop..something like an ML-SLK This sounds too much like a 'me too' item for a tiny niche.
  5. An Escalade Coupe de Ville with a long hood, 2dr body, short trunk on the LWB chassis would be cool...
  6. I drive less than 10k miles per year, split between 2 cars... normal commute is less than 50 miles a day. If it's over 200 miles, I usually fly..(being in the middle of Arizona, there isn't really much within 300 miles or so that I would go to).
  7. Interior looks great from the initial pics...love the wood and brown leather...looks like it would make a comfy commuter car, a quiet smooth place for the daily grind..
  8. I see a slight resemblance to the Merc GL front end (GL is the full size, ML is the midsize, GLK is the compact), but it's still a pretty distinctive design. The Caddy grille is much larger.
  9. Very blocky styling..neat taillights, though.
  10. Lame..they to get rid of the double standard and have one standard for cars and trucks. FWD CUVs aren't trucks.
  11. What's it matter? Car, CUV, same difference..something to do w/ CAFE ratings?
  12. They are afraid of getting burned by making a decision...rather let others lead then follow, seems like..
  13. Agreed.. the GC diesel is a very appealing proposition to me. But I find Tesla exciting because they are not only a new American car company but also a Silicon Valley high tech company success story..and I'm still a techie first and foremost. Gas, diesel, electric, fuel cell, etc.. I think there are a lot of configurations that are going to be strong in the future..not necessarily limited to one fuel source/powerplant type...
  14. I think there are people on this site that are stuck in the past and have no interest or understanding of where the automobile is today and where it is going in the future...it's very much a traditional, conservative mindset, afraid of evolution and new technology. The future is going see a variety of energy sources and engine technologies...
  15. Yeah, but you have an irrational hatred of America's newest car company..
  16. I sent my buddy the link to the new Corollas dismal crash record and recommended he check out the Cruze and Focus. He used to drive American, his first new car was an '85 Buick LeSabre but then he traded that on a Corolla and never looked back...
  17. Sounds like it ranks only 'marginal' in the latest crash tests. Weak sauce.
  18. Back from 4 days in San Francisco for a conference..saw a bunch of interesting cars there. On the way to the office here in Tempe this morning I saw a sharp black '96 Impala SS. Nice to see one in stock form, most times I see one they are trashed or modded..
  19. Awe, really? I will never comprehend the reference, "quiet" styling aside, but nice that you've seen one. It's a big car. It's not just 'blu who sees that. I was stuck behind one in traffic last week and it didn't take me long to think to myself that it was giving a weird last-gen-Accord-vibe from the B-Pillar back either. Actually I think the new Accord looks way better than an RLX- certainly one of the better looking midsize cars out there and the styling translates nicer to the lower trim cars than the overly bulky lines on the Fusion do. I can see that also...the Accord and RLX have similar profiles--the C-pillar shape and rear door upper, the character line through the bottom of the doors, taillight shape on the side, all very similar...I assume the RLX is badged as a Honda Legend in other markets like the RL was? http://www.acura.com/Exterior360.aspx?model=RLX&modelYear=2014 http://automobiles.honda.com/accord-sedan/exterior-360-view.aspx
  20. Continuing w/ SF sightings, saw a white '65 Chevelle coupe in good shape behind a fence. Saw a red early 80s Dodge Rampage in good shape. Saw 4 Tesla S sedans and a couple Tesla roadsters in traffic around Union Square and SoMa..over the last 3 days I've seen the same dark brown w/ tan top '73 Fleetwood Sixty Special, in great shape..saw it last night, distinctive taillights glowing in traffic..
  21. Saw a black Mercedes CLA--first one i've seen, looks pretty good in person. Also saw a very clean black '83 Cutlass Hurst/Olds. And a very clean early '80s Toyota Celica notchback..haven't seen one of those in years. All sorts of interesting stuff in San Francisco beyond the usual Priuses and other late model FWD generics.
  22. Saw a sharp bright red '67 Cougar on Market street in San Francisco earlier...
  23. Sweet.... I like the column shift, agreed that a console shifter is a waste of space...
  24. Happy Birthday!
  25. Maybe they will make an app so you can sit in the back seat and control the car w/ your iPhone or tablet.
