  1. Wait... who is calling the shots at Opel these days... Opel or GM? Opel wants a crossover on the Insignia platform? That's... kinda dumb. The new Small-Midsize crossover platform is on Delta (Equinox / Terrain) The larger mid-size is on C1 platform (Acadia, XT5) which is a distant cousin of Epsilon (E2). PSA is probably in the right to want to use their own platform for the Corsa otherwise it ends up on Gamma.
  2. or it's why Euro naming schemes are dumb
  3. The Denali version competes on price.
  4. Agreed. No one would buy such a vehicle. What he's really doing is setting the bar in such a ridiculous way that Cadillac could never succeed in his eyes. Cadillac could match Benz vehicle for vehicle except skip the GLE Coupe AMG and @smk4565 would roast them for not building a useless tall hatchback with poor handling and 550hp..... point to it and say "See!? Cadillac can't compete!" Sometimes the choice is to not compete with a niche that is really quite dumb.
  5. Glad to have you back on the site @caddycruiser
  6. I like 4 cylinder mode. I get some amazing fuel economy out of Suburbans with it. Better to have a V8 that shuts half off when not needed than a 6 that I have to spin up a turbo to get any power out of.
  7. Why do you keep trying to turn Cadillac into a full line brand like Mercedes? They are not and never will be unless Chevy and Buick go away. I don't want Cadillac pushing fake Gucci bags like Benz does. Cadillac should not be selling the Pontiac Grand Am of the intro-lux world. It would dilute the brand as the CLA is doing.
  8. Cadillac's EVs are going to be Voltec related plus at least one pure EV based on Bolt technology. The beauty of the Bolt setup is that it is readily expandable. They can build an entirely new and larger shell around the Bolt skateboard power train. GM is a lot further along with their EVs than you think.
  9. I'm not saying that Cadillac doesn't need more models... But Cadillac is being very cautious and the new guy's seat isn't even warm yet. SMK seems to think that vehicle platforms and designs are just downloaded like an app. They aren't... Designing a new car takes 5 years at minimum in most cases. When it takes less time, off the shelf components are used and the design becomes compromised (Think Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice). Johan has only been there about 2 years.... We haven't seen any of his work yet.
  10. I'd be interested to see if this let's the Yukon stay in 4 cylinder mode more often. Allowing 1 gear lower while running on 4 cylinders may be better for fuel economy.
  11. The EV is here now and it's their second one. EV tech is going to roll out across the entire model line. They were one of the first to do a luxury SUV and Truck. They've been in the luxury crossover game since the early days of such a thing. Just because they don't have a sport utility cross coupe whale like Benz and BMW doesn't mean they're behind. No one is buying those monstrosities. Benze's growth is entirely in pushing fake Gucci bags on masses for $299 a month leases. I don't think Cadillac should be chasing that.
  12. It was always packaged so poorly. It's about the same size as an Encore or Trax, but there is no room on the interior.
  13. We have yet to see any of Johan's work yet. The CT6 was completely locked in and the XT5 was 90% locked in by the time he walked in the door. I'm not his biggest fan, but I'll still give him the benefit of the doubt once the first Johan car is ready for release.
  14. Some guy across town just got his head cut off for not investing in the right technology. I'm sure Mary is rather aware of this while she battles her own activist investor. How much do you think a new convertible will add to Cadillac's bottom line right now? We already know a pair of new crossovers are on the way.
  15. ... I thought it was dead already.. It never felt like a Lexus level car.
  16. The transmission has the ability to skip shift both up and down... so I expect that in relaxed driving, you'll skip a few gears.
  17. Sure cleaned up nice! I've been thinking about a similar thing for myself but what inspired it was an old Pathfinder.
  18. I like laughing at terrible taste....and I find the fact that some small bit of engineering went into creating that monstrosity to be hilarious. There is a Facebook page called The Kitsch Bitsch. If you like laughing at terrible taste and style... That's the page for you.
  19. Now I just need to make space in my powder room for it!
  20. That could mean carbon fiber but a new platform, yes.
  21. If you need to haul an extra pair of kids in a pinch but don't want to get an SUV, it would work.
  22. Same platform as the i3/i8? I don't think so.... Those are both rear engine hybrids and this is clearly a front engine vehicle....
  23. There is a rear facing 3rd row seat optional on the Model-S
