    Look it another way, $30 billion is how many S Class development programs? Does it seem like a reasonable number for Audi to spend?

    Figure a billion per engine platform. No more than half a B on mimi. Electric drive will be in an existing platform, so just the cost of the power train, maybe maybe $1.5b. I'm just not seeing $30 billion. It's one thing to *say* your going to spend $XX billion dollars.... Its another thing to do it. How much of this is just Audi trying to out boast Mercedes?

    Actually, it really makes me wonder where all the money is going at Audi since practically everything is built on the MLB platform with a few MQB VW Broughams at the lower end. Of note, their only real sales gains are when they rebadge VWs. Audi is the king of "same sausage, different lengths"... so what are they blowing all this money on? The interiors aren't that far above and beyond equivalent Cadillacs and they fall apart.

    depends on how they tune the CVT and AWD. Hondas are FWD until they detect slip in the rear wheels (and then sometimes they still stay FWD), so it's not like it has to run the AWD system 99% of the time. Encore and the Trax have 138hp also, around town it feels quite zippy because the 1st and 2nd gear are really short, if Honda tunes the CVT the same way, it'll do okay. The only time I ever wish for more is highway ramp acceleration when already going a decent speed. The Encore runs in 50/50 AWD at take-off then switches to FWD after it decides everything is safe.

    Yeah but this will be the rare case where the Fiat is actually the heavier car.

    Don't forget the Renegade! It probably has the most powerful available engine in the lot with the 2.4 being available under the hood. Do you guys think the Subaru CrossTrek should be considered in this class as well?

    Most likely. But this does point to the issue of where emissions originate from - a tail pipe or a powerplant chimney - and if the overall effect in the environment is greater, equal or smaller from the spread of EVs. It's an interesting debate... It is easier to make a power plant cleaner, even a coal one, than it is to make all cars zero tailpipe emissions. Also, because of the way the grid works, you may be getting green power at times even if you aren't subscribed to green programs. Even if your house is 100% coal powered, electric vehicles go further with fewer carbon emissions than pure petroleum powered vehicles do, simply by virtue of regenerative braking. Also with Teslas, I believe all charging done at a supercharger station is 100% renewable energy as they put up solar panels for them.

    I can (and have) select green energy for my home through the energy choice program. It is no more expensive than brown energy and sometimes actually cheaper. Someone buying a Tesla in Pittsburgh will likely make the same choice I did.

    Honda will sell the bejezus out of these, but some of those sales will come at the expense of CR-V sales and possibly Fit sales. I'm sure Honda has accounted for that though.

    Everyone is getting or expanding sub-brands these days. M is a brand now at BMW and one that doesn't always include the actual high performance stuff. Fiat has Abarth, Chrysler has SRT, etc

    Digital Credit Union will give you 1.49% for up to 60 months if you direct deposit your payment to their checking account and pay from there. 1.9% if you don't do that.

    Eh, the S-class may not have presence... but it does have gravity... as it should for a 5,000lbs sedan. It is conservative, but has gravitas. I like the current one far more than the prior version.

    Suburban / Escalade water fording depth = 20" Range Rover water fording depth = 21.6" Not a huge difference to the average buyer of either of these vehicles
