  1. There are advantages to living in a state full of "liberal hippies".
  2. We had a 96 B4C Camaro for a short time. The dealer swore it was faster than the standard Z28. It even included a roll cage for high speed protection. Don't kid yourself, most police departments could care less about the environment, and all of them will want the V8. They are not in the job of saving the world, they are in the job of saving humans today. If they wanted to be "earth friendly" they would switch from Crown Vics to Cobalts. Oregon, and the counties throughout the state, have been picking up new Mustangs every year since they introduced a police package. I have no doubt the Camaro would be the same. As soon as GM can catch up with the publics need for Camaros, they will start selling to Police forces around the country.
  3. I want one and would love to be one of the first in my area to get it. I wouldn't be as inclined to get one if our electricity wasn't 100% renewable energy, something we can opt for here in Oregon.
  4. I will let the faces tell how I feel. :rotflmao:
  5. At this point, I am the stay at home Dad (illness prevents me from working for the past year). It's not a bad gig. I don't do laundry, make dinner, or do any "heavy" cleaning, as my wife still prefers to be the one that does it. My daughters do dishes 4 to 5 nights of the week, my wife does it 1 to 2 nights of the week, and if I am having muscle loss issues, my wife even mows the lawn. It is not uncommon for my wife to work 50+ hours each week and she doesn't mind. I still wash the trucks and . . . uhhh, and . . . uhhh . . . well I . . . Really though, I volunteer for many local needs, like being on the budget committee for our city. Since UPS won't let me come back, I have been out looking for a job that fits with my degree in accounting. Not working isn't all bad, as I only make a few hundred less each month than when I worked at UPS, thanks to personal disability insurance.
  6. Yeah, well . . . We still have our big SUVs and those are not going anywhere anytime soon.
  7. The poor company just can't catch a break.
  8. BTW: Our income is still above the median for our town, and our town is in the top 5 highest median incomes for our state. It doesn't matter what our income is for her to save money like this. She does it because it is just smart living (to live below your income whenever possible).
  9. My wife is the queen of saving and has been for years. Ways my wife saves us $$ while helping the environment and the economy. 1. We eat Organic Vegetables for little money & a few hours of work by working on a farm for the food ($12 to $24 for 6 months worth of fruits & vegis). 2. We get Organic shirts that are made in the USA with organic materials from SOS for about $3 a shirt. (www.sosfromtexas.com) 3. My wife makes her underwear from old shirts. Best way to reuse and save $$. http://proverbs31living.blogspot.com/2008/...d-t-shirts.html 4. We onlly have 1 light bulb per overhead light fixture. Our house is very bright, so there is no need for more. 5. We use fuel made from “waste” that was produced in Oregon. SeQuential BioFuels offers alternative fuels throughout the state of Oregon. We get a $0.50 per gallon tax credit for purchasing fuel, up to 400 gallons per vehicle. 6. We get some organic stuff from Costco: Organic Sugar - $7.99 for a 10 lb bag Organic Tortilla Chips - $4.49 for a 40 oz bag Organic Salsa - $5.89 for a 64 oz jar Odwalla Orange Juice - $6 for 1 gallon 7. We use cloth wipes & the females in the home also use cloth for their "needs". Wipes can be easily made at home though my wife got the idea from a Portland based company www.fresh-moon.com. 8. Sellers of organic soap will have broken or odd shaped ones available for little cost. Check with your local soap maker or retailer to see if they have any available. If you are in Eugene, check out Down to Earth, Oregon. 9. We have switched to one half filled small trash can a month for waste. If we happen to buy something at a store that over packs items, we unpack it at the store and let them pay for the waste (assuming we can't recycle it). If everyone did this, the companies would figure out how to reduce their packaging so we can reduce our landfill needs. 10. Instead of spending money on trash bags, we have switched to a smaller Rubbermaid (made in America) trash basket that we put inside our pull-out trash holder. Beth (my wife) cleans it frequently in the dishwasher when needed. This removes the cost of trash bags and reduces what we send to the dumpsites. 11. Beth makes really cool shopping bags out of old couch covers, curtains, etc. This was started because we couldn't find American made grocery bags that didn't cost $10 or more. 12. During the winter we keep our house temp at 65 degrees, though at times will turn it up to 68 degrees when we are “hanging out” and watching a movie. During the summer we keep the house at 78 to 80 degrees. Due to Beth’s work hours we need to run the A/C to help her sleep. 13. Instead of paying for cable we watch Hulu. All the great new and “old” shows on your time line for $0 (besides the internet ofcourse). 14. Our vehicles are kept in the garage as this reduces the need for warming them up. A $100 storage unit in the backyard with “stuff” might save you hundreds of dollars in gas costs. 15. The girls can earn $5 a week doing chores. Instead of handing them cash we keep a running total in a spreadsheet. This gets the girls to save up and allows us to track the money we loan them. They are not allowed to loan more than $20 at a time and are required to pay off debt before acquiring more. This teaches them the importance of paying your bills off before buying more stuff, and ensures we are not over extending credit to our children. 16. We schedule our nightly meals and make our shopping list as a family. Making the nightly dinner meal list together ensures that what is made will allow everyone in the family to have one night of something they like, and ensure that what is made is eaten by all. By making the list together and going shopping together, the food that is bought will be food that it eaten during the week. 17. Our kids are given $5 a week for school lunches. When we go shopping they buy what they need, usually going under the budgeted amount. We do require a healthy base for the meal, but allow them to make the choice of what it is and what the “snack” will be. We do not include the price of milk and allow for extra money when organic fruit is bought. 18. Have a family slogan. This creates cohesiveness and team spirit in a family just like a company. Our family motto: We’re all about solutions!
  10. Our 1992 Suburban with 196k did the same. It was a head gasket replacement. Not so bad when you consider age and mileage.
  11. [source: MotorAuthority and GM Tweeter] 2010 Chevy Equinox to get 32mpg highway rating, beats Honda and Toyota Best In Class Numbers by Far Chevrolet revealed pricing for its all-new Equinox crossover earlier this month, and now it has released the expected fuel efficiency rating for its four-cylinder model. Wet to go on sale across the U.S. this June at prices starting from $23,185 (including a $745 destination charge) for the entry-level FWD LS model, the new vehicle offers a $1,800 saving over the outgoing 2009 model. Dealers are expecting nearly two-thirds of customers will choose the base four-cylinder 182hp (135kW) 2.4L engine over the 264hp (190kW) 3.0L model, not only because it's cheaper but also because the 2.4L model deliver best-in-segment highway fuel economy of 32mpg when equipped with standard FWD – a 25% improvement over the previous model. Efficiency around town is pretty good too, checking in at 22mpg. Those figures easily match or outperform both the Honda CR-V (20mpg city/27mpg highway) and the Toyota RAV-4 (22mpg city/28mpg highway), GM's primary targets for the Equinox. With its 32mpg highway rating, the Equinox can cover up to 600mi (960km) on a single tank of fuel. The 3.0L V6 is expected to be EPA rated at 25mpg on the highway and 18mpg in the city, also when equipped with FWD, but official figures for that engine haven't been released. The Equinox is available in LS, LT and LTZ trim, with standard FWD or optional AWD. Two new engines are offered, each with fuel-saving direct injection and variable valve timing technology. Standard features include six airbags, four-wheel disc brakes with StabiliTrak electronic stability control and traction control, OnStar connectivity, XM Satellite Radio and 17in alloy wheels.
  12. Saturn was introduced as the next big GM division in the winter of 1985 as a Roger Smith project. I have some of the original clippings from magazines back then announcing the division with some early pictures of the proto-types.
  13. This is a comment that even non-Obama supports should like. It's about time we had a President that believed in us.
  14. While visiting with the owner of my local Chevy Dealer, the subject of GM's future came up. He stated that with 40% of GM dealers being closed, it will be impossible for GM not to file for BK. He stated that GM could not get enough government cash, and doesn't have enough lawyers to cover all of the potential law suits. At the end of the conversation i was in agreement with him regarding this matter. Any thoughts on this?

    TODAY SUCKS!!!

I'm sorry to hear about your job loss. I hope this opens up the door to something more exciting for you.
  16. Happy Birthday Caddycruiser
  17. I think there are more people than you think that would agree with you.
  18. Now, now, no need for the drama. Just because GM is forced to drop another brand line, it doesn't mean they are going to not have vehicles that fit your need. To be mad at the people that caused our current crash, and not vote for their theories is another matter all together though. I'm sure everyone in the ReCen would love to have an answer to Pontiac. Let's face it, no matter what products GM gave Pontiac, the public would not consider it. The general public has spoken, and they decided the Pontiac name, just like the Oldsmobile name, is not something they can show off to their neighbors. I will be sad to see Pontiac go, but I do understand the reasoning.
  19. After spending all that money getting it US ready, I don't think they will drop it that easily. Besides, it is getting good reviews for GM. Could they take the Buick version from China and import it over? It would help the dealers that are loosing it, and help Buick expand their line up.
  20. They did make it sound like it will go away sooner rather than later. The way the dealers are setup, they could easily get rid of it this year.
  21. The question remains; who will get what, or will it be dropped. My guess: G3 - Already Aveo Vibe - ??, not a fit for Chevrolet or Buick. Possible small GMC? G6 - Cancel G8 - Future Impala/Caprice Solstice - Chevrolet Any other thoughts?
  22. Fun read. Though I do remember another time that GM was on the brink of disaster. The last time GM was near bankrupcty was during Bush Sr., and this one started during Bush Jr.
  23. 1992 Suburban - 193k with original motor & trans 2004 Tahoe - 100k with original everything
