We're still a couple years away from SRT releasing the Viper out into the wild, but that isn't stopping rumors from flying around. We know that there is a new Viper on the way and has been testing for the past year.

Now, Allpar is reporting the new Viper will use a 8.7L V10 engine, making it the largest displacement engine ever used in a Chrysler production car. Horsepower and torque ratings hasn't been said, but it would be safe to assume it would be above the 600 horsepower and 560 lb.-ft. of torque of the previous Viper.

Allpar is also reporting production of the next generation Viper will begin sometime in fall 2012, with the car debuting in 2013.

That should be a hot car to hit the streets. Wonder if the large v10 is so it competes with the Z1?

I wonder if it will have Hemi heads. A V10 Hemi would be cool.

8.7L is just stupid. 530ish cubic inches.

So stupid it's awesome, but still.

They should make a 17 liter V20!!!!!

But seriously, why don't they use some technology, rather than just constantly increasing engine size. Throw in a super charger or something.

Well, the Viper has always been a blunt instrument, not really about technology. I guess that is part of it's character.

WHAAAT? No turbo 4? And here I've been advised that a turbo 4 is appropriate for every single car made!

Naaah....not for the Viper. the V10 is a strong part of it's brand identity.

Oh... Moltie. Don't you see? Brand identity means NOTHING. Nor should it! Isn't that what all the kids are saying?

1.there is no replacement for displacement 2. there is no substitute for cubic inches 3.horsepower sells motors, but torque wins races.

And yeah teh Hemi heads
