Another angle: Beetle sold 15K in 2017 - the entire 5-model MINI brand only sold 47K- and Mini has to support dealerships on it own.3 points

Euphemism works well in this context! Yes, it's the 2 words translated separately and then said "word+word." I think the owner must have been one hilarious individual and it would have been interesting to know the type of car the plate was attached to. Too funny.2 points

Found elsewhere : >>"Playboy mentioned, some years ago, that a CA plate, BREAD 8, had been recalled. Seems the español translation was a euphemism for "coochie."<<2 points

So much BS. How could he expect anyone who knows anything about cars to take him seriously??2 points

That's nonsense. But since you mention it, I wonder how much mercedes saves by not writing out the model name on 2.3 million vehicles annually. After all, if a "BUICK' badge costs GM $2, such a badge from Daimler must cost $500 each, right? 'Priced Like No Other' ™1 point

No thank you. Especially to the whole mobility as a service idea, regardless of whether GM or anyone else is pushing this rather awful idea that only a Millennial could love.1 point

Thank you, I bing'd and googled it but did not come up with anything that made sense. Guess I might just be a bit too nerdy of an engineer to think that low into the gutter. Course now that I get it, I can laugh about it.1 point

OK, just like late night TV that is supposed to be comedy and I never got it so why bother watching, I do not get what is so funny or why BREAD 8 would be a band license plate?1 point

PASS, Knowing how people trash rentals, I will not have my nice clean well kept auto's trashed by others.1 point

No point in spelling out the name with the badge there. Chevy doesn't do it, Cadillac doesn't do it, etc...1 point

The DEF fill ccap is on the lower portion of the RH fender, you can see the little blue ccap.1 point

Yes, those fins on that...car... do cause severe blind spots. I'm actually typing this by memory of the keyboard. Please let me know if I hit the wong key.1 point

It's kind of sad because it's probably one of the(if not THE) most iconic branded vehicles out there. Everybody and their brother knows what a VW Beetle is. I don't see if going away forever though. Maybe a little vacation to brew up some more demand then plop it down on the next Golf platform again, whenever that is.1 point

Sales have dropped because it's not as fresh, and they have culled the models of interest to male buyers and enthusiasts. The writing was on the wall for the car for some time, but it's still sad to see. In the grand scheme of things, its sales really weren't all that bad. Killing off the car and name entirely is a mistake.1 point

Totally agree since there are multiple Turbo kits out for the auto's as is. Does make one wonder if they are looking to make the next generation an EV or Hybrid.1 point

Good thoughts, be interesting to find out, if the engine is a pre exhaust fluid, then they should have updated to the current tune with exhaust fluid. All commercial companies love torque to tow and move their loads. Be interesting to see what Bill digs up. Thanks1 point

It's previous gen vs new gen, I think. I think it might have been pre-diesel exhaust fluid vs diesel exhaust fluid.1 point

It was never an issue for him because it is an EV but if it had a Mercedes logo on the front it would have immediately shrunk in size and he never would have fit a single leg in it.1 point

Poor sales because of few deals on leases. Given the mad march towards CUVs over sedans, you would think that Honda would make the Accord cheap to lease. Also, the competition is no longer the sad slouches they were 15-20 years ago. The Chrysler 200 is finally dead. The Malibu does NOT SUCK and neither does the Fusion. Hyundai/KIA are adding pressure. And there has always been the Toyota Camry since 1983. Somewhere along the line, Honda forgot to compete against increasingly tougher competition. They had better figure this out sooner than later. Otherwise, there will be even more Accords staying in Marysville OH and not at the local dealership.1 point

Yeah it seems the more and more I see the new Equinox the less I like the looks of it.. Most new things I see I don't like initially and the look grows on me. Not so much with the Equinox.1 point

A few weeks ago, after seeing a pic of the current accord posted here, I stated I hadn't seen any. I've kept my eyes open and I can report I do see the new accord out & about. I'm sure I had seen it earlier but here's why I think I never noticed it. The car simply does not have any brand image or make an impression whatsoever. It looks OK but it's totally generic. I believe a huge chunk of the sales stagnation is that it's just not making people seek out a honda because this car doesn't seem to even be a 'honda'.1 point

Spot on....and as the deals get even sweeter for sedans, they really need to jump on the boat.....1 point

I found an article that said in 2016 GM had 10.2 million sales world wide, their first year over 10 mil. I wonder what their all time highest sales year for the US was? It seems like it might have been in at a time when they had a lot of models and a lot of market share, perhaps 1977? Looking at the numbers at the first link below, Chevy was 2.5m, Olds 1.1m, Pontiac and Buick both over 800k...1978 and 1979 were similar, but lower... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Automobile_Production_Figures http://money.cnn.com/2017/02/07/news/companies/gm-record-sales-profits/index.html1 point

Beetle, even last year, outsold the vast majority of PHEV/EV models. There are hybrid/electrics selling in the SINGLE DIGITS monthly right now. Not every vehicle business case has to work if the parent company is solidly profitable. I'm in no way a potential customer, but JEERS to VW if they Pull the Plug on the Bug.1 point

VW (somehow) made $5 billion profit in 2016. They should keep the Beetle going just as an icon/symbol.1 point

...6 inches wider & 21-inches taller. But the USPS has released specs a few years ago of what they're looking for in a replacement, and it's much LARGER than what they have now; 85-in wide, 230-in long and 106-in in height. Current mail trucks were based on the S-10 chassis, but those specs are too great for that tier of truck, nevermind a Bolt-esque vehicle. Frankly, I don't see such a hulking postal vehicle being necc, as more & more mailing goes electronic... tho I'm also surprised the package overflow has shippers contracting with USPS trucks for Sunday deliveries.1 point
