I like C3PO myself Cadillac has so many kickass concept names too bad they don't use them. Honestly too, I still like STS, CTS, XLR, DTS, etc its just that the offerings became twisted. The CTS got larger. The STS became underwhelming.3 points

My expectation (purely my own hypothesis) is that it will be officially branded CT5 V-Series/Sport rather than just V. Otherwise, you're right.2 points

None of those cars are lousy when they have 300+ hp. Lousy are the ones with tiny displacement turbo 4s that get overworked trying to keep up. Yes, even my lil Encore is hindered by its power train. I'll take a 300hp engine in it any day.2 points

BMW never stopped making I6es... so Mercedes is just following them. Regal, Lacrosse, XTS, XT5, Enclave, Acadia, Impala, Traverse, Fusion, Taurus, Flex, Edge, Explorer, MKX, MKZ, Continental, S90, XC90, CLA AMG45, RLX, MDX, Maxima..... off the top of my head... all have 300+ available horsepower in a FWD chassis..2 points

Randy Newman fell short with his stupid song "Short People" but this one is epic, IMO. It's hilarious that he rolls in some of the more banal streets in this humongous city ... Victory Boulevard, Imperial Highway? WTF? Also, the L.A. of the New Millennium is a lot less happier place than the L.A. of circa 1984. Can't believe I was born and spent 21 of my first 25 years here. Thought I'd always go back there to live someday. That never happened. I got cold feet every time. And it doesn't look like it ever will happen. For one, every one of my childhood friends has moved out of the city and even out of state. So I listen to this song to channel the L.A. that I knew and once loved.2 points

This is a fantastic package at that price and Genesis knows it. Cadillac better be paying attention.1 point

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is considering replacing the Pentastar V6 with a brand new straight-six engine. A source tells Allpar the new engine will be based on their new four-cylinder Global Medium Engine (GME) - what is found under the hood of the Jeep Wrangler and Alfa Romeo Giulia. This will allow FCA to build the engine alongside the four-cylinder variant. Not many technical details are known about the engine aside from it being pegged around 2.9L to avoid taxes in certain European countries. We might expect larger displacements for trucks and SUVs. Production could take place at FCA's Dundee and Trenton, Michigan plants. It is expected that Ferrari will use a variant of this engine for Maserati vehicles. No timeframe as to when this new engine could debut. Allpar also mentions in their report that FCA was considering adding some sort of boost to the Pentastar, but ran into issues with the size and power constraints. LoL...well, Ford did own Jaguar back then...so it's not so preposterous...if Ford still owned Jag, there would no doubt be a Jag F150 variation, a Jag Expedition variation, etc...1 point

The I6 should make a comeback, and not just at FCA. GM and Ford need to do the same. Turbo 4cyl are overrated.1 point

Yes, because as price goes down, demand goes up. I know what you're getting at, but your cause and effect are reversed. Right now there are multiple major companies gearing up to make major increases in the capacity to manufacture batteries. That will not only increase supply, but increase economies of scale, dropping the price. Right now the cost of the batteries is said to be close to one third the price of the Bolt. For argument sake, let's say the Bolt is $36k on average before tax breaks. If GM can drop that price $6k or more due to battery costs dropping, that makes the car much more affordable and potentially demand go up.1 point

Demand is going to skyrocket and price is going to crater???1 point

Do you think the Grand Cherokee or Durango or Wrangler have a risk of going out of production in that amount of time? I could see a Turbo-4 being added to the first two, but not a removal of the V6 in the next three model years. Hell, they're still running the Hemi V8 there. Also remember the Pentastar is available in a 3.2 version in the Cherokee. This I could see dying and going to 2.0T only... or just getting upgraded to the 3.6 the Pacifica has. Ram still uses the Pentastar as a base engine. Also... will the Journey ever die? It's another one with the 3.6. The long and short of it is that the Pentastar is still a pretty efficient V6 today. I also think Wrangler buyers and Dakota buyers will be particularly resistant to a Turbo-4 as the only option. Keep in mind there is talk of the Pentastar getting a twin-turbo version to replace the Hemi in some applications.1 point

That is exactly how my current position is/was. When I first started it was the tie from Labor Day through Memorial Day except Fridays and then last year they canceled the tie unless we were meeting with people where business attire was required. I loved losing the tie. Perfect, imo.1 point

Batteries are made of expensive metals... just because they don't get shaped into visually interesting machines doesn't make them cheap. Electric drivetrains still require lots of design and engineering work, otherwise everyone would have loads of them already.1 point

I just find it noteworthy : size-wise the e-tron slots below the Q5, but it's double the price (with far less mechanicals/engineering).1 point

My take-away to date is: all the OEMs coming out to "battle Tesla" are completely decimating Musk's stated goal of 'EVs for the masses' because the spearhead of long-range EVs to date is 75 grand and up. Ridiculous, but the only way OEMs can hedge against running an EV program deeply in the red. And as Tesla has shown with uninterrupted regularity; even that's not high enough. For all the 'less parts/ simplier mechanics' of an EV, they are hovering at double what the average car buyer is willing to spend. Sorry; a bit nicer materials and a few gee-whiz functions are not what the mainstream is willing to double their payments on.1 point

Went to a friends wedding this weekend, was on her parents ranch. The father is OCD about his garage, hobby rooms and his old cars. Restored SS is lovely, picked up a Galaxie 500 that he is planning to clean up too. @A Horse With No Name Thought of you when I saw his wood options and the clean wood shop.1 point

After 17 years and 170k, my Jeep was tired...didn't want to spend any more on it..transmission was starting to slip, power windows and locks worked intermittently, air bag light came on on left turns.. desert life is hard on vehicles and people. Didn't trust it on the 2000+ mile drive from Phoenix to Cleveland...the A/C wasn't very cold anymore either. So glad to be done with the desert shithole..never want to be in Southwest ever again.0 points
