  1. 39 Grand would buy a very nicely equipped Grand Cherokee and also something very nice from Ford. Or CPO from any European brand. GM has lost their effing mind.

  2. Was braving the quickly dropping temps and high winds to look at an LT Cloth AWD Blazer today. Black over black, $39k with an option package that has things I would like to have (auto kick liftgate, roof rails, auto start) coupled with a bunch of other stuff that I definitely don't want (blind spot detection, etc.). The safety nannies are a reality as standard equipment on just about every competitive make except GM (with a price competitive with Blazer's base MSRP) but to get a few useful items, one has to pay a gazillion dollars to get the full-boat package with a GM vehicle. Not good!

  3. FCA is serving the needs of some customers for basic stuff like nice size interior, good features, and good option packaging. Some things GM doesn't get these days.

  4. Here is my take on it...I am fine with Porsche building suvs and sedans if it keeps the 911 alive. I am fine with cadillac building mainstream suvs if it keeps cars like the V series alive. I do think Cadillac needs to seperate its identity from lower GM products a bit more.

  5. Perfect car for ocnblu right here: it's green, has utility/cargo space for his Birkenstocks, frisbee & portable cookstove, not to mention the 6.2L Escalade LS engine. It even has a clutch pedal (tho it appears to be wired up under the dash- can't have it all) ~

  6. Nothing to do with Cadillac and GM but... I just felt like quoting that quote. Its something my dad always said. I felt the need to be...my dad just now... And this is just the weirdest shyte ever. As Im here typing this nonsense to you, the TV is on the the movie Walking Tall is playing. Im not really watching it, but then a song comes on... My dad used to sing that all the time... I love you dad! I miss you!

  7. You don't assume every other brand sells at sticker price, do you? Incentives, special cash, bonus cash, etc is the norm. New '19 Ram in my area is averaging 16% off sticker. S-Class is averaging 7% off sticker (which is actually the same dollar amount- around $7000). EVERYTHING is overpriced.

  8. Here's whats gonna happen.. just because we want Cadillac to be designed by the same types of car guys that brought us the best handling and performing Sport lux sedan for almost its entire run in the ATS and CTS.. what's going to happen is Cadillac by 2019, will most likely sell over 200K.. that's a 30% up in US sales.. and overall hit 300K in China (a 30% uptick) barring any backlash from the trade situation, but considering Dec was not effected in the negative I am optimistic. That's 500K Global that JDN predicted by 2020

  9. It's like they're building the need for giant rebates into the MSRP... structurally. How can this be good for resale value?

  10. yyyeeeeppp. People thought automakers were immersed in 'planned obsolescence' - that's the Prime Directive of the entire computer-involved industry.

  11. New explorer and aviator will have top of the line 400hp engines. Gm’s brass loves to put a common level v6 in their XT5 and tell the buyer. Oh that’s good enough.

  14. Cadillac I am afraid is merely a marketing arm and a trim package to Barra, Reuss, and the whole of GM leadership. It's a 'brand' with whatever attributes that want you to believe that it has. Rather than having the product define the attributes, they just want to spit it whatever they build and try to mind fu-- you with marketing and PR what the enhanced value of a Cadillac that they want you to believe. XT5 is salvageable. Give it a new stunning interior, and put say, the twin turbo six in it. I would even be for them moving to a good turbo four in the lesser versions if it is good and can move the vehicle. That new turbo four in the XT4 i felt was actually pretty smooth and revved nice. If they can tune that thing up to 300hp and pop it into the XT5, I would be jiggy with that because GM's ubiquitous 3.6 is just sort of there and needs work, at least in the XT5.

  19. Took the road trip from NYState to central Florida- car was a '72 Sedan deVille. I was a kid, I know I spent at least some time laying on the rear floor- my head near the one door, my knees over the trans tunnel. I don't recall any bumps down there, but the wheelbase was 130". My one buddy has a bunch of varied cars; one is a '67 Catalina. He keeps it because he was born in '67. I really don't get that- there's no correlation. Every vintage vehicle I own is older than me- I've bought what turned me on. Olds- go get yourself a '70 442; you're allowed! - - - - - Ford built 5 of these 1952 crew cabs for 2 separate special orders (they actually have only 3 doors). Must be one of the first crew cabs. This one is getting restored to original.

  22. I am positive He has found other auto's he would love to own, but as he has stated in other threads, price is not gonna happen. Crazy Price Inflation on auto's is just out of control along with some OEMs offering terrible feature packaging like GM.

  25. The MB hatches were unbelievably cheap shitboxes too- not un-akin to a Chevette (which was RWD also). MB has a long history trying to introduce a palatable but cheap hatchback shitbox to market :

  28. Lots of big incentives on Acadia right now since the corporate twin / blazer came out. I even got an email from a dealer for a 199 a month lease for an Acadia SLE FWD.

  29. Just saw a GMC ad during the NFC Championship game, where they were touting 'celebrate the New Year' now with 19% off MSRP. So is the unstated message is they are overpriced by 19% ?

  30. That said (the bolded part), and it was a mouth full.. I really wish Cadillac/GM would stop fukkin catering to people who really shouldn't be in Cadillacs, Lexus, Benz, etc.. Seriously.. this review was base don a drive in, essentially a BASE XT5 and compared to a Edge.. why not an Equinox, or Terrain??? Give me a break. This I blame on Cadillac for even offering a BASE XT5 so that they enable lower payments for the sake of charity IMO. Sorry.. its the high earner in me. No MRC, NO Better interior. No better ride and handling. Simple and plain. That there alone would have improved this showing... the MRC.. selective ride control and suspension settings. The Interior in the PREMIUM Lux and Platinum are bounds above the bottom layers. The very leather is better. The headliner is better.. the ride and handling are better..buuuuuuuuut.. Cadilac wants to cater.. when GM should step up and say hey.. "THIS IS CADILLAC... get the fukk outta here and go down to the Buick, Chevy, or GMC dealer.. in fact.. just go to Chevy..." And the SRX was in not better in this XT5 with exception to one thing, and that's the more agressive styling.. but I think Cadillac actually matured on this one. When I drove the XT5 Premium Lux and Platinum.. it was a head turner everywhere I went. Even dudes.. which surprised the hell out of me since I see it as a female ride. I reiterate that while I think the 3.6L is a very nice engine.. it should not be in a Cadillac after the intro of more torque heavy alternatives. Exclusive engines that Cadillac seems to be not only holding on to.. but only holding on to them for a select few of its vehicles. The 3.0L TT should have been offered as the base engine for the XT5 and XT6, and the optional engine for the XT4, XT5, and XT6. Huh??? Hell does that mean??? Different tuning. 350HP, 400HP.. re-certifications.. screw it. Charge the customer via higher MSRP.

  31. Essentially, the XT5 (and Cadillac more generally) needs some car guys to radically give Cadillac a real identity.

  33. ??? Moving more production out of the USA is a retreat. Chopping large swaths out of their model portfolio with nothing coming in the low price range behind them is a retreat. Mismanagement over many years... cut & run instead of fight... definition of a "retreat".

  34. Loving the Pacifica! The v6 pentastar in this thing is nice and smooth, revs nice, very good power. Much nicer to drive than the GM 3.6. The maligned 9 speed, no issues, tranny is smooth too. Nice ride and drive, this is a great family vehicle. Why Chrysler FCA is not proliferating this chassis and engine to some new Dodge and Chrysler crossovers and other vehicles is really insane. One huge beef that is becoming more and more irritating. There are no dash buttons for the heated seats and no steering wheel button for the steering wheel. To have to turn that on and off through the touch screen all the time is a MAJOR annoyance. The CarPlay hasn't worked for awhile now too. Been trying to find what could possibly get it working again, but all things with the phone i have tried have not made a difference. Will have to bring it to the dealer soon. I wish this had a real console, armrest and traditional shift lever. The rotary shift knob is efficient and easy to use, but i just prefer the typical shift lever on the console with a real armrest and console instead of the folding armrest off the seat.

  35. Those funky Eurovans do have their charm. The snow stopped for a while...a lot of wind blown snow in my driveway...shoveled a path from the garage to my sister's STS and around it, brushed off the snow on it. Must be 8-10 inches or more drifted behind it down the driveway to the street...ugh. And now it's snowing again..

  36. I liked the SRX more than the XT5... it's not an ugly vehicle, but it's uninspiring with a bland interior, in my opinion. The problem is, rather than building on that, they're releasing a bigger version. What's Cadillac's ultimate goal now? And if they're changing it, do we have to change the names of the vehicles yet again?

  37. How much does this sled cost? I like all the storage, especially all the hidden areas. He mentions "perfect for hoarders!" Not a great vehicle if you're right handed - you sit on the wrong side to begin with and have to shift with your left hand. You'd think this would be marketed with an automatic. Then, when he sets off down the road, I thought, "Whoa, he's driving down the wrong side of the street."

  38. Much more sensational in its day than the "unnamed EV concept" Cadillac of now. Sad to see such a tremendous loss of relevance in what was once the absolute pinnacle of aspirational automotive greatness.

  39. EV vs. ICE is not like the auto vs. the horse. It's like 1 breed of horse vs. another breed of horse you merely give different feed. Functionally & physically they're the same, just like EV/ICEs. - - - - - Ask yourself this : why doesn't Mercedes (2 mill global sales) handily outsell it's mainstream rival ? toyota (10 mil)? It's supposedly a better automobile and mercedes would HAPPILY sell 10 or even 15 million if they could. Why -like their tagline from the early '00s- isn't there a mercedes in every driveway?? The answer is price- the Dec '17 ATP of a toyoyo was $33,9xx. This is the market limitation of EVs- they're almost all in the luxury price tier and the ones announced for future production are likewise in very elevated price tiers. How are OEMs going to move 98% or even 50% of the market into the luxury price tier? 'Battery prices are coming down' doesn't come close to answering that, and we've seen Tesla only raise pricing/refuse to build an 'affordable' model. If they can't do it being the #1 EV brand, how will any other brands do it? EV will NOT become a mainstream sector without addressing pricing. And I've yet to see evidence they can.

  40. I want to take one with the wife. Coast to coast also. I wanna see all the old Western towns. Where all those "legendary" cowboys roamed. I love that part of American history. I mentioned the Pacific Coast Highway couple of days ago. Route 66. Whatever is left of it nowadays. Then there is another road trip Id like to take. The one above was East to West. I wanna go from North to South. See the Atlantic coast and find myself in the Florida Keys. The Keys are also beautiful... Ive just been to Boston and New York. But the USA is so vast and big and beautiful, that several road trips are a must!

  41. We got about 3 inches of snow. I went riding and stopped at the local Chevy and Ford dealers. Ford place has moved to their spanking new building (on the site of their old, old building, which is closer to town on the same road as their old building). Chevy dealer has a white Blazer AWD RS, MSRP $50.7k. It is pretty, wouldn't want to replace 21" tires as optioned, wouldn't spend $50.7k on it even if I had the money. First Blazer I've seen in person. Ford dealer has THREE Ranger Supercrews, all Lariats, all black in various states of spec, MSRP $44-$45k. First Rangers I've seen! While the Blazer left me neutral due to its price tag, I actually got tickled looking at the Rangers, like I used to when viewing a new vehicle for the first time. They look great, TALL but great! Now I want one, spec'd more conservatively of course.

  43. The "imaginary list of reasons" to get rid of my Jeep so soon, which has been an impelling force in the past with my rate of vehicle turnover, just has not manifested itself in any sort of clear and focused way. Still rather content with it. 34k miles and counting on my FIAT-Chrysler product, and no problems to report.

  44. interesting you say that. I've noticed a drop in MPG and I almost want to say performance on the Encore when I switched from the Continentals to Goodyear Triple Treads. It's been a while since the switch-over, but it is still noticeable. If I keep it long enough, I may go back to the Continentals. Light snow traction on the Triple-Treads has been excellent for an all-season tire though.

  45. Thanks! I thought it only natural to order it in "Army Green"! First tank is ringing up at 27.5 MPG so far, but of course I will double check the DIC against actual mathematics when I fill it up. Also, I am happy to be "rowing my own" again!
