I always immensely enjoy when local Posrche club has autocross event together with everybody else at a local SCCA club. Seeing these self important dentists and financial brokers in their 911 get killed in cars that costs fraction of the cost of their cars is always a great pleasure. You maybe can buy 911 or Ferrari but you can't buy skill.4 points

I imagine they could price the Corvette at $25,000 and most Porsche owners and no Ferrari owners are not going to buy one. To them it is about owning a Ferrari, not about performance per dollar. Corvette is trying to get the top end Camaro buyers for when that car dies, tempt people to spend a little more for a Vette rather than buy a Supra, or Mustang. Maybe try to steal some M4 or Audi TT buyers since TT is getting killed.4 points

There is absolutely no point in getting in F1. The costs alone are astronomical. Marques with a history in F1 get preferential treatment and budgets, the series has been in a turn down for several seasons now, and most likely GM wouldn't be successful, even if they DID throw the necessary money at it.3 points

• I question how many buyers of exotics continue to repeatedly only buy from that 1 brand. I know there are hardcore fans of each out there who do, I wonder what percentage of overall buyers. Because another brand will NEVER sway those buyers- they're 'off the table' as far as conquest sales go / an OEM is wasting their time chasing them. A hardcore Corvette buyer is never going to consider a ferrari, either. • Where OEMs should / are focusing is the new or non-loyal buyer, the one who considers -not the badge- but the merits of the vehicle. That's where a brand new C8 is high on the list of contention for a WIDE variety of reasons. That's a winning formula for conquests.3 points

More like 911's and AMG GT's. A 60k Mustang and Camaro eat Supras as it is.3 points

What does service have to do with it; I can get a Jeep serviced at a Chevy dealer. Are there any Chevy emblems or nameplates on a Corvette?3 points

I hope so. Those harsh lessons of too little differentiation and too many brands must never be forgotten.2 points

No, it’s a convertible. Look at the pics of the regular targa w/ the fixed rear window and bar where the rear hatch/engine cover is hinged. The convertible version probably works like a Ferrari 488 Spyder or various Lambos—the section with the headrest fairings flips backward and the top folds into a well between the seats and engine. Pretty standard approach for convertible versions of modern mid-engined sports cars. The Jalopnik article shows the differences in the rear structure between the coupe and convertible. The pics below are from that article--convertible in green, coupe/targa in red. https://jalopnik.com/heres-a-first-look-at-the-new-corvette-convertible-18365270532 points

Toyoter couldn't handle 3 brands, it's not going to buy 2 more.2 points

What a lazy statement. Apple could buy all the German brands but would it mean anything? No and neither would Toyotas ability to hypothetically buy Ford. That’s just lazy talk when your previous arguments haven’t worked. Two things. The domestics will probably never get the mainstream market and the Japanese and Germans will never get the American full size truck market. You call Toyota lazy but at least they have the ability and the means to build their own truck without borrowing someone else’s truck just to watch it turn into yet more vapor ware.2 points

And Apple could buy Ford, GM, and FCA and look where their automobile efforts landed because they realized it isn't as easy as they thought. Best in class does not mean best in sales. That's been gone over at least a million times already. Wasn't the Tundra best in class in 07-08 when it first came out? YUP.2 points

Two things. First, you assume that those German and Italian buyers won’t look at the Vette because of its price while I’m willing to bet that more will look at and probably buy this one than you think if they get behind the wheel of it. Second, when the higher performance models come out (and they will), the first point becomes even more relevant. If I was GM, I would market this directly against that Euro Trash (especially the Italians) without ever advertising price or value. Advertise it strictly on it’s driving and performance merits while emphasizing the new look of it.2 points

I definitely believe a badge snob will let the Chevy part hold it back. It's a Chevy and not a Porsche. That's just how it's going to be.2 points
-
It goes even deeper; it’s such an ingrained Americana thing that it doesn’t have to be One Brand Only, but it sure as hell is unlikely to be a Japanese brand.2 points

Sounds like you’re gonna save your loose change and get a new corvette when it’s out!2 points

Yup, his brand has like 1 trim of vehicle that will be able to hold a candle to whatever trim Vette throws down all while having like 10 priced above it. Even the AMG GT R isn't as quick as the C8, taking both manufacturers for their word.2 points

I love how you continue to shift the insults around. From your first post about monochromatic interiors, which was wrong btw, to your historical posts about its six figure pricing (also wrong), to who you think buys a Vette, you just go out of your way to slam it. Guess that’s the reality of seeing a domestic sports car that is going to eat the Germans lunch for far less coin so you have to pretend that there are these imaginary flaws that make it less than what it is.2 points

GM still does -at times- some of the World's best styling. WRT to the above pic; very artful combination of suble and sharp lines and gentle radiuses. The venting inboard of the 'flying buttress' C-pillars is well done; some excellent surface transitioning overall.2 points

Wow, I am more than pleased with this. It still embodies what a Corvette should be... a halo car for Chevrolet. It is still a bit humble/corny/"American", with a stupendous measure of performance, and the starting price just puts icing on the cake. I was prepared to pan it as too foo-foo for a Corvette, too Euro-centric, but it wears our flag on its sleeve so proudly, and that aspect endears it to me instantly. It is one of those designs that bonds immediately to the viewer... not every vehicle is able to do that... there is an adjustment period often required. Not here. Not with me. I've already built "mine" (and I will wear that configurator out again and again), with no goofy wing to distract from that perfect ass. I hope they sell the heck out of them. I can learn a frickin' row of buttons, the buttons do not scare me.2 points

The Corvette has been successful in sports car racing, I assume the C8 will competing also. F1 has sadly become a deeply dull snore fest of ugly cars, boring tracks, and predictable outcomes. And as a 40 yr F1 fan, it’s sad.1 point

Think of it as the 'recipe' that made you, you. I found that my mother would've been born with a different surname, because no one knew her father had a different biological father. When the mother remarried, the kids apparently were adopted & had their surname changed. Her father never told anyone about it (he was 8 when it happened); not his first wife (my grandmother) or his second. He had a German surname, but was born with an Italian one.1 point

Is it a convertible, or really more of a ‘targa’? I see jutting, rigid B-Pillars there. Be a shame if the ‘targa’ loses the see-thru engine cover... Via my observation, the only people who call the car a ‘Chevy’ have no intention of buying to begin with.1 point

It will be interesting to see how it sells, and what the retention rate from existing Corvette owners is like...1 point

Non-sequitor. Saying Ferrari has been owned by Fiat is like saying Chevrolet is owned by GM. Ferrari is a multi model brand of vehicles, the Corvette is a single model within the Chevrolet brand. And besides, Ferrari is an independent company now (since 2016).1 point

I don't think I've ever heard somebody try and defend the Corvette not being a Chevy.. and it still doesn't make sense.1 point

It starts at 60k. Owners will enjoy eating up them Europeans at a heavy discount.1 point

Other than the Ford GT (tho that’s actively ID’d as a ‘Ford’), I don’t think there’s any other singular model more separate from its parent brand. It hasn’t said Chevrolet’ on it, I believe, in about 50 years. Point being; that it how the car is perceived by consumers; as a ‘Corvette’ 1st, and as a ‘Chevy’ around 95th. Potential buyers aren’t thinking ‘Oh, the same brand made the Aveo, I can’t buy one!’ There’s a towering ‘firewall’ of perception there. Ferrari had been owned by Fiat for 40 years now.1 point

Talk about irony..I saw an older gent with a 'Korean War Veteran' license plate frame recently...he was driving a Sonata.1 point

I have checked other sites and they show interiors with two tone interiors and several different colors. This shot may be closer to the base model interior which isn’t bad at all (again aside from those buttons).1 point

I like it, but those center console buttons are a joke. How is that intuitive at all to hit anything specific while driving?!1 point

I think GM is returning to its roots of using the same platform for a gazillion different vehicles that really aren't that different when you boil them down. Blazer, Traverse, Enclave, Acadia, XT5, XT6.... and now there's word of another Buick SUV coming between Enclave and Envision. Trailblazer, Trailblazer EXT, Envoy, Envoy EXT, Envoy XUT, Ascender, Bravada, Rainier, 9-7x1 point

I prefer a more sedate tonal delivery (like yours) to the hyped / on speed deliveries most of these review videos offer, so kudos there. The voice level, yes, could be higher, but ALSO the background music needs to be more like 50%; it should stay in the background & not compete with the voiceover. Overall I say; well done!1 point

Be gentle, it's my first time editing and narrating a video for youtube. I know I need a better microphone. Constructive criticism welcome. Edit: New Version with the music level reduced by half.1 point
