Spring is coming... and DST is coming. 50, blue skies and sunny this afternoon...I'm optimistic about spring...already thinking about my yard and plantings. May have new neighbors soon (the houses on both sides of me are for sale).2 points

Sounds like there were many different Big Boy franchisees across the US. Elby's is what I remember here in Ohio from the '70s-80s. I have a Big Boys a few miles from me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Boy_Restaurants When I was in college and grad school my go-to w/ my friends was Dennys, esp. late at night after hitting the bars in downtown Kent, Ohio and Ann Arbor, Mi...2 points

Blast from the past When in college, there was a Bob's Big Boy about 1.5 miles from campus. (Bob's is what they called them in the West ... Big Boys have other names in Eastern states.) Would eat there about 2x a week. When the "combo" (double decker burger, fries, salad) was on special, it was more like a pilgrimage - we'd go in groups about 3x to 4x a week. Back then, we ate poorly and no one seemed to gain weight. I miss the plastic triangular salad dish. Everything used to come on one plate. Of the few franchises that remain, they bring out the salad first in a conventional bowl. That's probably because now it's soup OR salad. Every L.A. suburb had at least one Bob's Big Boy. Those were the days. D'accord. C'est vrai.2 points

OK... given GM's announcement regarding their Ultium Battery architecture, my prescription for a practical EV will be:- 4 x Ultium Battery modules = 33 kWh (~80 mile electric range) = enough for 95% of US commuters 1 x 30kW Capstone (single stage unrecuperated) Microturbine = Ability to recharge battery to 90% capacity in 1 hour 16 gallon fuel tank will provide 230 mile of additional range for a total of 310 miles* *Note: With 16% thermal efficiency on the Turbine-Generator, 16 kg (5.56 gallons) of fuel is needed to produce 33kWh (or 80 mile range) using 12.9 kWh/kg Gasoline fuel. 16 gallons of fuel will hence provide (16/5.56) x 80 = 230 miles range extension. Basically, the idea is that you get to be fully electric for your daily commute and grind. Once in a year when you drive to LA from San Francisco or whatever, it'll cost you $68 in gasoline at $3.30 a gallon which you can get in 2 minutes at any of the gas stations along the way. Sure as hell beats lugging around an additional 1000 lbs and $20,000 in battery capacity every day for capacity you use once or twice a year. Or, waiting in line to recharge four times along the way. You can also go to a 33% efficiency recuperated turbine and basically half your fuel costs to $34 for that 380 mile trip (300 mile beyond electric range). But is saving that $34 once or twice a year worth the additional costs, space and weight of the recuperated turbine-generator (about $3000 more taking three times the space and weighing about 2.5 times as much)? I don't think so.1 point

All this talk about Spring And its a welcomed song choice because everywhere I go in Montreal...Bon Jovi is playing. The band is coming back for another concert. Went skating outside, heard Bon Jovi. We went to a rink, they played Bon Jovi. Turn on the radio, Enlgis stations, French stations...Bon Jovi... I mean...I like the band...but shyte, man! Some macho Bon Jovi, please. Not this sappy girley girly lovey lovey shyte he does. Its good. But its too...girley. A couple of songs that the radio does not play...at least not anymore. Wanted Dead or Alive is too Bon Jovi rock cliché So Ill go with something that is long forgotten!!!1 point

I don't get much in the way of allergies, Spring here is usually rainy...gets nice by late May and early June usually. No heat to speak of until late June when it might get in the 70s.1 point

Maybe the Camaro will be reborn as a performance EV coupe and convertible...and Cadillac will get a plaid-mode EV-series performance sedan to take on the Model S. I know GM is fixated on CUVs, SUVs and trucks, but with this shift to EVs they need variety...1 point

Seems GM is releasing more details after their closed door meeting on their EV product line. https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/general-motors-chevy-buick-gmc-hummer-cadillac-electric-vehicles/ Quote on the Battery info: The 'Ultima' energy-storage solution Powering this massive EV push is GM's new Ultima battery technology. With a unique chemistry and a special design, they promise greater energy density, easier packaging and lower cost. A lithium-ion design, Ultima mixes the internal chemistry up a bit, incorporating nickel, manganese, cobalt and aluminum, among other elements into its cathode side, so-called NMCA chemistry. A potential breakthrough, engineers have reduced the cobalt content of these batteries by around 70%, a material that's both pricey and difficult to obtain these days. They've managed to substitute it with aluminum, which is cheaper and far more readily available. The plan is to offer Ultima batteries in packs with capacities ranging from 50 to 200 kilowatt hours. This is projected to give vehicles an estimated maximum driving range of up to 400 miles. Depending on vehicle type, this can enable acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 3 seconds. Level II and DC fast-charging are both supported. Most of GM's upcoming EVs will feature battery packs that operate at 400 volts, however, its truck platform will run at twice that much and support 350-kW fast charging.1 point

I've never eaten at Big Boy's or any of those franchises... Not because I don't want to, just never had an opportunity.1 point

Sadly, My mind and body are not as advanced age as you and your friends. I doubt you could stay up with me skiing, in the gym or so many other things. Working from home when you have idiots still moving around sick is a smart move. Just finished my 2hr upper body workout in the gym. What did you do to have a strong mind and body today?1 point

Haha, I knew the Cadillac Lyriq would be music to dfelt's ears. Now whether that translates to anyone else is the perilous part of GM's awful plan to finish off Cadillac.1 point

Decided to post this https://www.quora.com/How-the-motor-gets-reversed-in-regenerative-braking Engineering speak as to me it is the simplest way to explain this: In dc motor during regenerative baking, the rotation does not change. When regenerative braking is applied, the supply to the armature(rotor) is cut off and supply is given only to the field winding(stator). Due to this, the rotor conductor cuts the stator magnetic field and produce an voltag(emf),this is fed back to the source. The motor will come to stop when the inertia is equal to the emf produced.1 point

It's still November ... as in "when the gales of November came early" Fairly haunting and sort of incredible that Lake Superior is akin to the North Atlantic of the Great Lakes.1 point
