During a recent fireside chat with Bank of America, Ford teased a new 'Whitespace' product due in the 2021MY. What could that product be? Muscle Cars & Trucks speculates this may be a smaller pickup truck. We've been hearing rumblings about this since 2018 when Automobile Magazine first brought this to light. This truck would be the replacement for the Brazilian market Courier, last sold in 2013. It would be based on the C2 platform that underpinned at the time the new Focus for markets outside of the U.S. Fuel would be added to the fire a year later when Jim Farley, Ford's president of global markets dropped this, Since then, a trademark filing for Maverick by Ford has appeared, possibly giving us a name for this new model. Plus, dealers were shown this model earlier this year where it earned an enthusiastic reception. This model could have a starting price of around $20,000 or so when it launches. Stay tuned. If ANY image of a Native American is 'potentially offensive', one is effectively 'eradicating' any public presence by eliminating every symbol. As usual, the hysterical over-react and speak for others, making unilateral demands. The Redskins logo & name was designed with prominent input from Native Americans, who have polled as being largely in favor of it. Doesn't matter to the hysterical. I can see an argument for Aunt Jemima (I'm not in that camp), but once the Land O Lakes Native American woman was kidnapped off the packaging, I stopped trying to see other side's 'logic'. I type this wearing a vintage-harkening t-shirt which has the Indian Head logo & 'PONTIAC" on it. Ironically for some, guess under what president the choice 'negro' was first removed from the US Census? I actually agree with this (and Morgan Freeman) : stop talking about it. Focus is breeding division. How can you have 'equality' (whatever that's defined as) when every segment of society is getting labeled?3 points

What Portland, Oregon? Anger Southern and maybe you downvoted because, why? I dont know why you downvoted Southern, but I took it upon myself to (not derail the word association thread) and post a Bugs Bunny/Yosemite Sam Looney Tune cartoon depicting an angry (Southern soldier) Yosemite Sam... Im acutely aware of where Portland resides on the map... Im deeply understanding (pun intended of the deep part) of where the South is and what Southern States make up the South. In fact, in the cartoon, the Mason-Dixon line is shown. Not only do I know what that means and why it is, but I also know that you, buddy boy, live very close to the Mason-Dixon line to the south of you... In fact, that beautiful river you posted a while ago crosses that line... Im surprised you didnt get the connection... You always do...3 points

I love to hear stories about auto longevity. I try to run my cars "into the ground" time and mileage wise, but not condition wise. I try to take care of them, both mechanically and in appearance. When auto technology was changing, one wondered how long newer introductions would hold up. When the trend was to switch from carburetors to fuel injection, the first report of longevity I got was from a college friend, circa 2004, that his 1988 Mustang 5.0 V8 had 188,000 miles on the original injectors and the fuel delivery system was still functioning very well. Turns out that the ones on my car at that time lasted about another 100,000 miles beyond what he had on his Mustang. I'm guessing it's Bosch that is the prime supplier of injectors to the auto industry. As the saying goes: take car of it, and it will take care of you.2 points

And when sales drop like stones as people hold onto more practical ICE means of transport, then what? Bankruptcy, like Barra is heading toward with her mismanagement of GM?2 points

I, more and more, have come to terms with the front end and in certain cases, as this Yenko 800 HP super special, have come to LOVE not only the whole package, but the front end included.2 points

The Astra was the Opel/Vauxhall Astra in Europe, the Corsa was a smaller car (more Sonic sized). The Astra some years in Europe was a available with an interesting optional windshield that wrapped up into the roof. There was also a folding hardtop cabrio version (called Twin Top), kind of the predecessor of the Cascada.2 points

I just just realized...what could be a very very hypocritical point of view Im holding regarding sports teams names and logos that feature heads of Native American warriors. Pontiac Motor Division was named after a famous Indian Chief who also lends his name to the place of where the Motor Division built its cars. Pontiac Michigan. It may be a badge of honour to have a car maker name a brand after a Chief and depict him as the logo of said brand. Maybe because GM's naming of Pontiac Motor Division and this logo and all other variations of: was truly done with respect. I dunno what the answer is anymore. Reality is indeed complex.1 point

I can't take seriously the legendary Yenko name applied to an ugly ass truck. Now a modern use of the name on a Camaro, that would make sense.1 point

Oh...That is coming Im afraid. Give it time. Statues and sports teams names first along with certain elements from TV shows and movies. And 2nd in line ARE the old Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry cartoons. Actually, those have already been modified since the 1980s. Speedy Gonzales and his Mexican friends and Tom's (Tom and Jerry) mother...a husky black woman, have already been eliminated from TV. Also...in the 1980s, all the Wile E. Coyote dust puffs from him falling and landing have been cut... This PC thing is not from yesterday. Its been with us since the start of the 1980s. It has been snowballing ever since...but it has been there since the Reagan administration. (Not saying his Presidency had anything to do with it, but saying it has been there since 5 Presidents ago...)1 point

I will say, I use it on everything including the windows and black trim. Just makes it so reflective and new looking even though it is 12 years old with 165,000 miles on it. Built like a rock!1 point

I definitely fall into the ease of entry/exit category. I don't have bad knees or back or anything. It's just much easier to step horizontally rather than climb up of fall down.1 point

That looks great! My cars are due for their monthly wash and spray wax! I’m usually a big Meg’s or Mother’s fan, but I am really liking the Duragloss Aquawax I bought. The shine is nice, and it lasts for quite a while for a spray wax! That stuff does look tempting though.......1 point

Agreed. Cars of a useful SIZE have been abandoned due to oppressive CAFE regulations. So naturally people still need practical vehicles... hence the meteoric rise in popularity of trucks, SUV and CUV.1 point

The problem with those stats is they look at everything going to oil, and compare it to everything going to wind & solar. Wind & Solar provide 1 end product : energy. Oil provides 6000+ end products. To make an accurate comparison, you have to look at the portion of oil that goes only to energy. Those are vastly different numbers.1 point

Oil industry feeds FAR MORE than merely the tanks of IC vehicles. Google says over 6,000 products. How many products is wind a component of (Washington DC excluded)? But federal subsidies are another topic (and they go to every single energy producer: oil, electricity, wind, solar, nuclear, etc). Info I saw says solar &wind receive far more financial support than fossil fuels. Here the question is the state coffers.1 point

^ Nope. If it's your personal choice to buy an expensive EV vehicle, you should pay the associated cost. $750M / 36854 EV (2018 NYS number) = $20,350 per EV vehicle. What's a little higher payment over a few more years relative to saving the Earth? The self-defeating problem in attempting to tie EV infrastructure costs into IC vehicles in order to "drive change" is that --IF it works-- that pool of money will steadily dwindle as IC vehicles theoretically become less common. Also, tying EV costs to IC vehicles "will disproportionately affect those most cash-strapped in the vehicle pool / those the farthest from affording an EV". The long-term success would be to tie it to EV vehicles, because --IF it works-- that cost is borne by 1. those spending luxury-vehicle prices (Teslas, audis, jags, Bolingers, Rivians, Lordstowners, etc), and 2. that cost will come DOWN as the EV pool theoretically increases.1 point

I question, after 2020’s inevitable tax shortfall, where NYS is going to get 3/4 of a billion extra dollars from.1 point

This was yesterday: I needed some rubber seals for some metal ridges in the engine bay where they had come undone and/or were missing. I think I found them. I went to the junkyard where you pull your own parts. What may look like a mess is really organized ... by brands, row numbers, etc. Very interesting. Olds 88 being pulled into inventory - probably has a 3800 there for the picking ... What the hell? Are you intrigued? It's sad that a 2005 LaCrosse would devolve into this kind of condition "Come on baby light my Fiero" (the 100 in blue means row 100) $ 6 for my parts. I've already snapped them into place.1 point
