  1. I'd like to see Jeep do a Comanche pickup...based off the Grand Cherokee with a useful bed, like the Ridgeline but RWD/AWD...I'd find something like that more interesting than the Gladiator.

  2. I love my Ranger, huge fan of both the Colorado and the Ridgeline.

  3. Could work in suburbia also... if I didn't prefer SUVs, I could see having something like a Ridgeline or the upcoming Ford Maverick to haul stuff occasionally for the yard...maybe a Ranger or Colorado. I've never had a use for a typical Bloatbeast 150-350 truck..

  4. Maybe GM can engineer a US version of this Mini EV for $20k and call it the Chevy Sparky or Spark-E.

  5. They are following a normal high end to medium level auto's to help recover initial R&D. Hummer Edition 1 is the Denali of the Trucks / SUVs. They do have lower end versions. Totally agree, should be an interesting project. But I do worry about his Cheap as possible approach. Yet we now have Ford, Chevrolet, as well as other OEMs and startups that all say they will have low end starter EV's by 2025 which makes the 2035 mandate of no new ICE sales possible. If GM gets their entry level EVs all worked out and finally get the last of the safety requirements done to bring in Micro, sub compact and compact EVs into the market, that will also be a big game changer.

  6. GM already does that in China with a 5K cost EV that is the number 1 seller there. We will get them, just to cover initial R&D, they are doing what all companies do, come out on top with a high end model first. Home Theater, TV's, Stereo's, Furniture, appliances, etc. all come out with high end products catered to the rich and then we get the tech pushed down as economy of scale builds up. They sold 15,000 in the first 20 days and sales have just gone up from there replacing VW with the #1 selling auto. https://gulfnews.com/auto/news/teslas-nemesis-in-china-is-a-tiny-5000-ev-from-gm-1.1601218899408 https://www.autoblog.com/2020/09/26/gm-china-electric-micro-car-wuling-mini-ev/ https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/news/gm-sells-15-000-low-cost-evs-for-china-in-first-20-days/ar-BB18mr3I https://jalopnik.com/gm-is-selling-more-evs-than-tesla-in-china-1844982463

  7. That's the original problem. It seems every automaker wants to sell expensive EVs when the market needs cheap ones. If you want to get ICE off the road, EVs must be cheap enough to displace the used car market period. The first automaker that sells a quality EV for $15K brand new will own the market for a long time. I actively wonder if it will be a Chinese automaker who will do just that.

  8. Great detail review of the Hummer EV.

  9. $116 GRAND?!?!? Utterly preposterous. Are we still overlooking the 80,000 lb gorilla of the bottom line vs. a comparable IC vehicle? Just shove the $1100 monthly payment aside and focus on 'no bi-annual oil changes / whoopee!' ?? That's like saying 'your hand doesn't hurt at all' while I'm smashing your foot with a hand sledge. As more EV trucks get released, the average MSRP of the electric vehicle keeps rising & rising & rising.

  10. DRIVEN: 2020 Chrysler Pacifica AWD Launch Edition: Well, the lease end is approaching soon and time to get into market to see what the newest is in the family haulers. We currently lease a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica and its been fantastic. But as you know, the market never stops. And, my curiosity was piqued, to find out that the 2021 Pacifica coming out soon was to arrive with an all wheel drive option! Not that is it always needed, but living in a snow state, all wheel drive can always be a benefit, especially on those really tough stormy days or when you need to get up a slick driveway and need the traction wherever you can get it. And best thing...no functional compromises for the all wheel drive...the Sto N Go seats into floor system that has made FCA vans famous remains in tact and fully functional with the all wheel drive. No sacrifices! Have we finally hit family hauler holy grail? (The Sienna all wheel drive has had run flat tires). So much to my surprise, one day, surfing my local Chrysler dealer who is 2 miles from home, I found something strange. They had listed some ---2020--- Pacificas with ALL WHEEL DRIVE. WUT? That's not supposed to be till 2021! Well, a trip to Chrysler.com confirmed....Chrysler snuck in a late end of model year trim package for what they are calling the all wheel drive 'launch edition' Pacifica. It will be a unicorn among Pacifica's with the 2020 design and not the upcoming refreshed body of the 2021. Well, figuring my wife has suggested that maybe she doesn't want another minivan (while full well admitting she loves the function and space), I figured I had to at least drive the all wheel drive Pacifica to see how it compares from a ride and drive standpoint to the current front drive only Pacifica, which is a great driving minivan. IS anything sacrificed in the ride and drive? Here's my prior review of the 2017 Pacifica for prior notes, so i won't go deep into the review other than just comparing the new all wheel drive vs the current: And the thread on the vehicle we lease currently, the 2018 Pacifica. soooooooo DRIVEN: 2020 Chrysler Pacifica AWD Launch Edition: HIGHS -The all wheel drive pricing is not expensive. Chrysler is keeping it within reach for budget conscious family buyers. A decked out Pacifica AWD still comes in less than similarly sized and decked out AWD crossovers. -eye catching looks still there, the "S" package of tested unit even looks sporty as heck, for any vehicle. Inside, as well. Our van has the tan interior, but this one with the black interior, makes it feel sporty inside as well. -no functional compromises. Chrysler has in fact pulled off a great effort here. The Sto N Go was not sacrificed to incorporate the all wheel drive. -Pentastar v6 remains strong, although it bit slower off the line...unless you stomp the gas. Then it snarls and takes off just as the current van. I imagine maybe 1/2 second is lost in 0-60 if i go on feel. -The transmission shifts the same / similar. So no noticeably different transmission behavior. -No changes to the seating floor or cargo floor, either. No one would suspect this car has a driveshaft going underneath to the back. No clues at all. LOWS -There is a 2-3 mpg hit on the fuel economy. But when gas is closer to 2 bucks a gallon, that is not a huge deal. Plus the gas mileage was great to begin with; when the snow flies, the minor loss of fuel economy is well worth the trade in traction on bad days in this case. -The extra weight of the AWD system can be felt. Probably not by most casual observers unless you mentioned to them on back to back test drives. Still, the Pacifica was car like....the AWD dulls the agility of the vehicle some. It doesn't feel ponderous or anything, though. -The addition of all wheel drive doesn't transform the van into a crossover (the cool group). It's still genuinely a van...maybe they should have added cladding. LOL. -Let's see if the newly engineered AWD system is reliable. Some folks avoid AWD vehicles due to their occasional penchant to break down and cause problems more often than their FWD counterparts. -New dual level full console with real armrest and place to put phone is only being made available on Pinnacle trim in the 2021 refresh. SUMMARY This is a full win for Chrysler here. They turned their successful Pacifica van into a better competitor to the crossover market by adding the all wheel drive option, and did so without a compromise to the core assets of what drivers look for in a van. All the function is preserved with no sacrifice, and the performance penalty is not much. Most drivers would never even know whether they are driving the all wheel drive version or the front drive only version, unless you told them. And with the plethora of trim and appearance packages Chrysler offers, it is possible to get a luxurious van with AWD, or a sporty looking van with AWD. Chrysler was supposed to die...maybe this keeps them on life support. Here's some photos...

  11. Should be plenty of room under the hood for a 3.8L turbo setup. ? I think '78 was the first year for the Grand National so you would only be pulling it ahead a year or two. The rust would definitely worry me. I would get underneath and see how bad the underbody is for sure. This kind of reminds me of when I was driving through northern Ohio on a business trip back in 2010 and came across this beauty. I had to stop and check it out. I just stumbled across these pictures yesterday while looking for something different. If you had the time, patience and tools this would have been a fun LS swap project in my book. Throw a turbo or supercharger on it even. I was just watching a video a week or two ago where someone did a turbo LS in like and 80's Mercury wagon and kept it looking stock. Even went so far as to have the stock rear wheels widened to keep the sleeper look.

  12. Question: Since MINI Coopers are not great sellers, FIAT 500 models are not great sellers, and SMART had to leave the US market because of very poor sales, what makes you think that this subcompact EV will sell in the US or Canada at all? If that subcompact were the size of an Equinox for about $25K fully loaded, then we can talk since THAT vehicle will sell and take market share from everybody else. Now, when will GM and/or Ford sell such an EV at that price level I just mentioned?

  14. RIP to a nice little Hummer! As expected the Marauder does take some damage but survived the same explosion since it is military grade for IEDs. I am expecting the BOLT to drop in price for generation 2 as they bring out the Bolt Extended length to replace the current price point on the same platform.

  15. Major software update today, that is what changed the theme. I had been holding off on doing the upgrade because not all of our add-on apps were compatible. I'm still putting things back together. I will be taking the site down later this afternoon as I have some server upgrades to do as well.

  16. Lifted and rolling on 44 inch mud tires, yes... IF the hummer EV is too expensive for Balthy and 'Blu...there is always this in terms of ICE

  17. I can also see them building a Micro Pickup EV for inner city use. I know way too many people that love living in the inner city, have little yards / gardens and want a mini or micro pickup for their home depot runs, etc. I can see a valid market for such a truck.

  24. Look at the prices Hummer H1 Alphas are going for, used w/ a garbage interior...this is likely superior to those old shitboxes...Hummer was never about cheap transportation...cheaply build interiors, maybe, but not prices..

  27. I put a bigger cam and springs in it before the engine was put in the car. Got the car back from having all the major work done. Now its up to me to finish it up. I don't think I will work on until April or so with the goal to have it on the road at the end of May. The joys of Michigan winters! The wire harness was delivered today. I still need to order an exhaust system and get a Y-pipe made. I now have a 3.73 geared 10 bolt that needs to be installed along with the tubular torque arm, lower control arms and panhard rod that are still sitting in my basement. The trans that came with the engine was a mess so my already blown budget got blown even more with a rebuild but at least I know it is fresh and was done correctly. Now I just need to keep my fingers crossed that the engine isn't also garbage. Lots of little stuff left to do before it will run and drive. Left the AC bits in there but don't plan to get it working until after I get the car running and drive it around for a while to make sure the engine is good. Here's a few more pics:

  29. Have to say I am excited by the GMC Hummer EV. The reveal was what I would call a 6min commercial. I will say that they at least made sure to have a Hummer version of the GMC Multi-Function tailgate. Starting price for the AWD Hummer Edition 1 is $112,595 Reservation fee of $100.00 GMC-HUMMER-EV-Reveal.mp4 More details are all available on the GMC Web site here: https://www.gmc.com/electric-truck/hummer-ev https://media.gmc.com/media/us/en/gmc/hummer-ev.html 3 Motor Edition 1 will start at $112,595.00 Yes not for those that are in the 30 to 40K range, but not crazy like Bollinger with less tech starting at $125,000 which is crazy.

  32. The Ford F-150 Raptor also has 390.00 / 468.00 city/highway driving range on a single tank, AND (get this!) 100% of that driving range can be restored in about FIVE MINUTES. Even if you do get wrapped up in your off-road adventure and run out of (dino) juice "out there", if you carry an extra can of gas, you can get home! So... Ford is already ahead of GM in technology when it comes to "off road beasts", at less than half the price. Added bonus... the only thing embarrassing about the Ford is the exhaust note from the 3.5L V6!
