  1. ? I am confused as Vancouver Island here which is a normal basic cost ferry ride from the US or from Vancouver city in British Columbia has a population of 870,000 plus citizens. There is a national park there and on the north end of the island plenty of cool camping stuff, hikes, water falls etc. to see. Empress Hotel Basic freeway system, but plenty of dirt roads for off roading. If one wants to get away from it all, then the northern tip of the island is worth visiting to camp. Best park if your wanting a good day trip is Butchart Gardens. They have their own private marina if you own a boat or you can take the ferry there and drive to the garden which is freaking amazing. Once done at the Garden, a visit to the Buttery fly garden is worth it. Victoria Butterfly Gardens A posted video by a visitor.

  2. Cadillac needs something in that space...an uber-lux version of the Escalade w/ the Blackwing V8, 24 inch rims, etc. Mega-bling.

  3. Seems a price war is on for the ubber 6 figures luxury SUV products as Mercedes-Benz has rolled out their latest 2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 Opulence embraced SUV. Undercutting Bentley Bentayga, Land Rover Range Rover SVAutobiogrphy and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan with a starting price of only $161,550. This SUV maxes out at $200,000 so if your looking for the monogrammed floor mats, then look to Bently or Rools-Royce. 2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 first drive review: Opulence embraced - Roadshow (cnet.com)

  4. GM DID Look at investing in Rivian but they wanted Rivian to themselves and wanted Rivian to dump Ford and Amazon which I do not agree with. Rivian CEO is wanting the tech to many companies and so GM choose to stick with their own platform. It will be interesting to see which way Ford goes as they will have two platforms, Rivian for a Truck and possibly future SUV and then the Mach E platform. Exciting times we live in.

  5. Greenworks was the brand of the large electric push mower, 25 inches. I really thought it was a 30 inches like the Toro Timemaster. I’ll have to give those all a good look. It does seem that the more I look at them the better they appeal to me. Unfortunately, the mower I like is $650.. that’s a pretty penny for a push mower but the Toro and Husqvarna self propelled electric push mowers are about the same anyway.

  6. @David Thank you for all these great photos. Incredible. I've never been to Vancouver Island (and Victoria), yet I've been to Vancouver (city) between 50 and 100 times. I feel that the ferry ride from the principal ferry port (Tsawwassen, BC, I believe, south of the city of Vancouver) is a little expensive if you were to bring on a vehicle. It was to me. Sure, you can be a "walk aboard," but then it's a pain to get into Victoria and get around using transit. On the other hand, doing the "walk aboard" on the WSF system from downtown Seattle to either Bremerton or Bainbridge is an incredible experience and "reasonably" priced. You always want to take out of town guests on that for the incredible views and endless photos you can take. I've even brought on my car a few decades ago and it was doable ($). I haven't priced it lately. Wow, just like WA, the population of British Columbia has boomed. I remember when it had 3 million people. I'm being a geek now ... British Columbia - 4.6 million Vancouver metro - 2.6 million Vancouver city - almost 700,000, similar to Seattle Vancouver Island - 870,000, like you said, but look at that land mass! About 370,000 of those folks live in the greater Victoria area, meaning most of the island - about the size of Idaho's panhandle - is not populated.

  7. I have Black & Decker electric leaf blower, leaf vacuum/mulcher, string trimmer, and saw. Most work pretty well, biggest irritation is the cord coming displugged and the cord tangling around my feet. I have an electric snow thrower, and it is disappointing as it it can’t seem to handle snow deeper than a foot or so. But I really don’t want to fool around w/ gas power tools; having to carry a gas can in my Jeep would be disgusting.

  8. Oh yeah, all electric is the way to go. My yard it too big for an electric rider that I'd be willing to spend the money on yet but I know they're on their way. I think I'm going either Toro or Husqvarna. I'm yet to buy anything but I've been researching the crap out of them. I haven't read anything negative about EGO but there's just something about them that doesn't pull me in like the "ols school" brands do. I'll have to give them a look again because an electric push mower is one of the mandatory items they must make and EGO actually has a 30" push mower that would be fantastic.

  10. How much and how big of stuff are you using it for? I borrowed my dad's Husqvarna 40V chainsaw and it impressed the hell out of me. I'm 100% going all electric as I grow my yard tools.

  11. Seems 42 companies have asked the Federal Government for action on Climate change and the acceleration to EVs. Japan is the latest country that is looking to ban ICE auto sales by mid 2030's or earlier moving to a country that supports Hybrid / EV auto sales only. EGEB: Ford, HP, Amazon, others call for govt climate action - Electrek Daimler has announced starting with January 1st 2021 to December 31st 2025 they will invest $85 billion in moving their product line of trucks, buses and personal auto's to EV's and or Hybrids. 14. ^ I expect the Ford-Rivian venture to dissolve also. Company A cannot successfully compete with Company B by buying Company B's product and revamping it. Plus, don't forget Ford's in-house truck EV platform under development.

  15. A friend of mine that lives in BC (Burnaby) has a vacation home on Vancouver Island somewhere on the coast.. the photos I've seen of the area look quite spectacular. I really want to get out there eventually and explore... Those bars look delicious.

  17. Vancouver Island is supposed to be incredible. It is not related to the city of Vancouver. That's why I've never been there. Vancouver Island sits across the wide Strait of Georgia and requires an expensive ferry ride to get there. The only recognizable names on the island might be Victoria and Namaimo (tasty Nanaimo bars were named after this town). The island is enormous and is hardly populated. One of its not so great aspects is a fairly high incidence of mountain lion and human encounters. Western Canada seems to have more of these than the Western U.S. Nanaimo bars! You can definitely get these when getting coffee in Canada. Not so much in most of the U.S.

  18. Same deal as electric cars. It's great, it's quiet, it's double the price. Husquevarna 16" gas chainsaw : $180 Ego 16" chainsaw : $300. All depends on what you want to budget for something.

  20. While I have some older models, it seems most are still being sold. I have the following models: 21" Self-Propelled Cordless Lawn Mower by EGO POWER+ (egopowerplus.com) 530 CFM Cordless Lawn Blower by EGO POWER+ (egopowerplus.com) The Power of Gas, the Convenience of Multiple Tools | EGO (egopowerplus.com) I have the following heads: Extension pole String Trimmer Hedge Trimmer Pole Saw 18" Cordless Chain Saw by EGO POWER+ (egopowerplus.com) As you can see, I am a believer in their product line. Works great, will never go back to ICE tools.

  21. Right now about .28 / gal. I'd have to look in my log, but I drive about 10K per year (2018: 9600 miles). 10K miles per year @ 16 MPG = 625 gals x 2.01 = $1256 / yr. 10K miles per year @ 21 MPG = 476 gals x 2.29 = $1090 / yr. annual fuel savings: $166. Duramax pays for itself in 6.02 years. I've been in my current truck for 14.

  22. They can deliver to local dealer, it might be not as expensive as you think My yard is not huge, I have pretty much everything EGO now. Didn't want to deal with smell of gas and noise.

  23. Stopped at my local dealer this afternoon - had a Silverado RST Duramax, but short bed. No good. 'cross the street at GMC, had an Elevation Double Cab / standard bed 5.3L. No good (& sold). But I like the Elevation in person, and tho I'd still like it 1-2 inches lower, it's pretty appealing to me (as a crew cab / standard bed). Saw a perfect Elevation online.... in Wyoming. ?

  24. Question: does the nature of BEV platforms push these vehicles to being Body On Frame (vs. unibody)? Ideally, the 'skateboard' concept GM pioneered would be ideal to reducing costs of building variants.

  25. I suspect Ford will use the Rivian platform to learn from unless they have already moved the Mach E platform into multiple other SUV autos to come. For sure Ford will make money on their $500 million investment for stock shares once Rivian goes public.

  26. Agree. I do think Rivian should do well. F150 buyers different to certain extent from Rivian buyers. That being said...with you looking at new half tons...stopped by a Chevy dealer to check out Silverado 1500. Really liked the interior and the overall feel if the Truck. Think crew cab diesel engine combo sounds good with the 3.0

  27. Then I had a dyslexic moment. Got Rivian crossed with Nikola. Sure me. It would probably help if you’d stop cherry picking a piece of someone’s comment so as to remove all doubt as to what you speak. That’s a tactic reserved for the news, not such a cerebral person as yourself. Be better.

  28. Trying to figure out which is more insane from Facebook....the marketplace advertisement for a 67 Fairlane convertible clapped out and sans drivetrain for 40 Grand or the question in an overlanding forum I am part of asking about the most fuel efficient vehicle to overland antarctica. Just curious...

  33. Sorry about that, I thought I had clicked the 1500. I was curious and so I called my local Chevy place here and they said that any truck can be brought in from any dealership. If it is greater than 25 miles, they trailer the truck to the dealership. Depending on the association of the dealers it could just be a auto exchange or there could be a basic trailering cost for the company that brings the truck in. They said if I found exactly what I wanted online searching the national database, then a good dealer should be able to get the truck for you or negotiate a like equal truck. I told him the base requirements were CC, Standard bed, 4WD and 3.0L diesel. His response was if it was out there exactly what I wanted he could have it within a week, otherwise it would have to be an order. Very nice guy, I would seriously consider using him down the road. So it looks my friend that if you want, just build it online and see where it is at if it exists the way you want it. Then you have a choice of a delivery fee to have the truck brought in or order. Was an interesting exercise for me, GM seems to be far more flexible or I should say the dealers are being far more flexible in getting a sale than I have seen them in the past. This Pandemic is working in the customers favor I believe.

  35. About two hours of watching water run and breaking dishes is what I recall. Funny story about that movie...we were building a movie theater when it came out. Was the first actual film shown in the theater....I arranged to get off work early to watch the first film shown...Got off work...had already bought my ticket...clocked out at 11:30...dumped my tool belt in my Chevy truck...at 11:35 was eating popcorn in my seat watching the start of the movie.

  36. That is one of the main reasons why I moved to a small town a couple of months ago (would have been back in the Spring but COVID slowed the renovation on my home). It's a town of just over 15,000 yet less than an hour to at least four mid-size cities like Raleigh and Greensboro. Nice round-a-bout around the courthouse kind of town that has seen a nice revival over the last few years. Some nice Home-Brew bars and independent coffee shops and a local hardware store that I frequent often. It's not perfect, by any means, but it is a FAAAAR cry from the previous seven years in Phoenix metro. Strip mall hell.

  40. A small range. I gravitated to the green, didn’t count the variations. They need a red, brown and a tan of some sort. I love the baseball glove shade of tan Audi, Jeep and others have used in the past.

  41. Which was always doomed because why would GM invest in another company's pickup when they have their own plans for their models. Meanwhile, more American jobs, this time in Arizona where it's sorely needed. https://www.azcentral.com/story/money/business/energy/2020/12/01/lucid-motors-factory-az-completed-manufacturing-begin-2021/6407567002/
