Happy Easter to those who celebrate it, and happy weekend. And, even if you don't, you can still make sure you eat well (aerial view courtesy of the Chicago Tribune).3 points

Interesting story I saw the other day out of NM....15,000 bees in a Buick Century at a grocery. One thing that wasn't mentioned in the article was when they thought the bees got in...did it happen spontaneously while the owner was in the grocery, or had they been driving around for a while w/ a bee hive growing in the car? https://www.autoblog.com/2021/04/01/bee-hive-overtakes-car-buick-century/3 points

Without vaccines, “herd immunity” is just another way of saying “the weak shall perish”. These vaccines have been in development for over a decade and that’s the only reason they were done so quickly. They were trying to develop a vaccine for common cold viruses and the work they did for that translated directly into a Covid-19 vaccine. I would expect CDC guidance to change as the situation changes and new things are learned, that’s just common sense. My whole pod is vaccinated now, so we’re able to gather as a family for the first time since last year for Easter. So far, the vaccine is proving to be effective against severe illness when someone is infected with the variants. I expect all of those who get vaccinated will need boosters at some point. I get my flu vaccine every year, I’ll get the Covid one as often as needed.2 points

Nah Ah! It aint me, babe! NO! NO! NO! Im bald! And honestly, Im quite fit for a mid-aged Greek fella with a stay-at-home Greek wife that owns a hot dog joint. Because...after a certain age, certain Greek men pack the poundage, especially around the waist area... But not me, babe. NO! NO! NO! It aint me, babe! Its certainly aint me, babe! Here, this is what Im saying about poundage around the waist area. NOT...a stereotype.2 points

Just a place to swap stories about our vaccine experiences. I got the Moderna shot on Jan 11th. Other than a sore arm for a few days (same thing I get with a flu shot) I had no side effects. I got my second shot on Feb 11th at 6pm. The next morning I woke up feeling feverish with body aches and chills. I took Advil and drank Gatorade and felt blah all day. In the evening I had to pick up a curbside grocery order, I didn’t feel well but I went anyway. On the way back I really felt awful and almost pulled over to make Albert drive back. I made it home and went right back to bed. I had fevers during the night for the next few nights. I didn’t start feeling normal again until day 5 and didn’t catch up on my sleep for a week. but I’d do it again to avoid getting Covid.1 point

Name: Oldsmobile Toronado Category: Vehicles Date Added: 2021-04-02 Submitter: Drew Dowdell Oldsmobile Toronado So as I mentioned in another thread, I’m trying to keep the truck parked for a while and only drive the Toronado. As I was driving home last night I noticed how dim the sealed beams are. I have LEDs on the truck and active HIDs on the Chrysler. I think I need to find an LED retrofit for the Toronado just for safety reasons.1 point

I had figured since the 25th of March was last week that fried Cod (Bakaliaros) would be served with skordalia. Traditional food that is eaten on this day. 1. Evangelismos 2. Greek Independence FREEDOM Day (everybody including us Greeks say independence day...Greeks and Greece were ALWAYS independent. As a people we was always infighting with each other...but were ALWAYS independent. We fought for our FREEDOM against the Ottoman Empire...) Baklava, galaktoboureko. Cant go wrong. A little token of appreciation of you and your Italian backround! I feel like we could be bestest of friends if we ever met in real life! Bromance in effect I think!1 point

Good morning, We apologize strongly with regards to the Spam message you received overnight. We were attacked by Spam bots and they have been dealt with. In addition to addressing the bot that attacked us yesterday, we've implemented the following changes. Manual approval of all new accounts, any new user is approved by me personally before they are allowed to post anything or send Private Messages. New Users cannot PM more than 2 members until they've made 10 approved posts in our forums. New users cannot edit their About Me until 10 approved posts, this limits potential for profile link Spam. New Anti-Spam software subscription that bans messages sent from certain countries (all of the non-English speaking world) and also bans messages that contain commonly used Spam keywords. We feel that these measures we've taken will eliminate this issue from ever happening again. We are currently in process of cleaning up all 4,000+ private messages the Spam bots sent. We have been an active automotive forum for nearly 20 years and will be celebrating our 20th in August of this year. Warmest Regards, Drew Dowdell Editor in Chief CheersandGears.com1 point

Luckily, I don’t have that “issue” lol. The acrylic plates on these are super smooth and they will never warp, which is a “win win” for me.1 point

Yes it was for the Q1, but the ID.4 only started shipping mid March, so that figure was for a single month only. Bigger yet is looking at the global picture rather than just the US which this is about and for that VW is on track to sell 1 million EVs by the end of 2023 per their own info. 2019 (Full Year) Global: Volkswagen Electric Car Sales Worldwide - Car Sales Statistics (best-selling-cars.com) For 2020 only, VW was almost equal to half of Tesla in EV sales. 231,600 sold and delivered in 2020 globally. VW Group sold almost half as many EVs as Tesla in 2020, and it's just getting warmed up (motorauthority.com) Both Audi and VW have more models coming which will only help to increase those sales as to why they believe by the end of 2023 they will have 1 million in EV sales and 1.5 million in EV sales by the end of 2025. VW Executive mgmt. has stated they expect global auto sales of between 6% to 8% for 2021 being equal to Tesla in EV sales a big increase from the 3% they had in 2020. As per the Bloomberg story, VW sold 9.3 million auto's globally in 2020 and if they remain flat in sales but have 8% of the 9.3 million auto's sold be EV that is 745,000 EVs. Tesla sold almost 500,000 EVs in 2020 and is projecting a 50% increase in EV sales for 2021 or 750,000 EVs sold. As you have stated, a company can only sell at a loss for so long before they get pinched by the Legacy OEMs and this year could be a bit of hurt on Tesla by VW. VW sold more EV's in 2020 in Europe than Tesla, so VW is positioned to truly make a big change in the auto industry. The next 3 quarters of ID sales will be telling here in the US and especially as Ford and GM ramp up their EV production. VW’s EV Sales Target Suggests Tesla Gap Could Close This Year - Bloomberg While the US is slow to catch up compared to the rest of the world EVs are catching on as more and more countries support the change over to EVs. 2020 had 3.2 million EVs sold globally. EV-Volumes - The Electric Vehicle World Sales Database (ev-volumes.com) The US is no longer the Leader in Auto tech / auto production / sales. We need to get production of critical parts back in the US and then move forward with the auto tech revolution.1 point

I have an ION I bought from @Paolino a bunch of years ago. Software support for it is virtually nil now. Instead of trying to get the ion software to work, download Audacity for free and use the record player as a Mic input. It will save hours of frustration.1 point

I know this is very sad and perhaps crappy news to some...but Chevy seems to be giving Corvette not 1, but 2 siblings. Both EVs. One is an SUV and the other seems to be a 4 door sports sedan. It may be crappy news to some, nobody can deny that it aint exciting news...1 point

I inherited many 33s from my mom. All Greek music. Some real old stuff. I bought an ION one maybe 15 years ago and I just installed it about a month ago. I am planning to transfer them unto a digital device whether its my computer or whatever. Ive been saying Ill be transferring them for...15 years now. I took it out of the box a month ago... I know it works... Maybe in another 15 years Ill actually get around to doing it and Ill visit this very thread and tell you folk how it went...1 point

I agree. While not meaning to be political, I do think the previous adminsitrations rhetoric about bringing jobs back is a huge step in the right direction. I also think the current adminsitrations infrastructure plan and a reliance on domestic products for it is another step in the right direction. This is one of the reasons I bought the Ranger, if you want American manufacturing here, at some point you need to vote with dollars and buy American products. Still as frustrated as ever about American foreign policy regardless of the adminstration....but at some point you just need to vote with $ and buy American. From Scioto Grove, the park where I hike nearest my house. This spot is especially tranquil.1 point

Three things... (1) Government is not more likely to serve YOUR interest than private enterprise. Ultimately, both serve the interest of the leaders and minions of the organization first and everyone else second. (2) The difference between Government and Private enterprise is that the latter CANNOT COMPEL the consumption of, or payment for, their product or service on you. Government on the other hand CAN COMPEL you to pay for it through taxation. You do not have to use Microsoft windows or buy power from the private utility company however inconvenient that may be -- you can use Linux or you can get your own generator. If you don't pay your taxes they throw you in jail, seize your assets anyway and shoot you if you resist. Private companies -- even monopolies -- can't do that. (3) You may say that you can influence government policy with your vote. But there's so many problems with that argument. Firstly, with private companies you have an absolute segregation of choice. You can decide on buying or not buying Tesla's Solar Roof independently of eating at MacDonalds or getting an iPhone. With government you are forced to vote on a one size fits all package from two political parties that encompasses everything. You don't like the way this party's appointee runs the power grid, but you don't like the way the other runs abortion, guns control, healthcare, immigration, education or whatever else... So do you really have the freedom to decide on this specific issue? I don't think so. Secondly, with Private Enterprise your choice is exclusively yours. If you decide that you want to screw Texan power companies, you can get your own generator, solar panels and a Tesla Powerwall. You, and you alone, CAN decide to do that. If you decide that you want to vote against for the gay promising to reform your municipal utility, it is diluted by millions of other voters may not vote for the same guy. I believe that we should be largely an "on your own society" and government should be there to provide national defense, public safety, basic infrastructure and a legal frame work. Anytime something can plausibly be done by private or government entities it should be totally private -- and that includes energy, transportation, healthcare and education.1 point

I parked this car because it had a stuck lifter. Still ran fantastically strong. So 2 weeks ago, after the urging of 2 friends and my son (who loves this car), I rounded up 4 tires that hold air & swapped them on, rolled the car outside, we washed it and started airing out the interior. I used to have mice running around in my shop, so the windows have been closed all these years. Interior got hella moldy. There were still 2 contained mice nests- one in the back seat and one in a cardboard box in the trunk. Minimal activity either way. About 90% of the interior has been cleaned now. Going to pulled the buckets and clean the carpet, then button it all back together (I had the rear seat out / just sitting in there). Hooked a power unit up and tried out a few things- power antenna works, parking lights work, horn works. Didn't try the windows- the power unit isn't the same thing as an actual battery (horn was weak), so didn't want to have them stuck down. I turned the engine over manually last year, currently have some Marvel Mystery oil in all the cylinders, and going to rotate the engine a couple turns. Next is rebuilt the carb, clean out the tank (it was coated years back), replace the fuel lines. Check the ignition bits (they only have about 800 miles on them), and probably try to start it. If it runs, the next hurdle is moving. If it moves, it gets a brand new brake system & tires, and it's time to cruise. Then there's this to consider :1 point

Wrong year, I need the sealed beam style. I ended up buying the Philips Crystal Visions. $54 for all 4 bulbs. I’ll run them for a while and if I don’t like them I’ll get the Philips LED version. I didn’t go with them this time around because they’re $86 per bulb plus tax and shipping on RockAuto. I don’t remember the last time I changed the halogens on the Toronado and halogen bulbs lose brightness over time. So it might just be age.0 points
