Tetsuro Aikawa, Mitsubishi Motors' president and COO will be stepping down from the company next month. In a statement released by the company, Aikawa will resign on June 24th, the same date of Mitsubishi's annual shareholders meeting. Ryugo Nakao, the executive vice president for quality and product strategy will also be stepping down at the same time. Automotive News reports that Akiawa stepped down for two key reasons. The first was that he was the director of the r&d division that inflated the fuel economy test figures. The second is to give a clean slate for the new development chief, that will likely be installed by Nissan as part of the two companies' new alliance. “For causing trouble and worry first and foremost to our customers and to all involved, I take responsibility,” said Akiawa. During a press conference today, CEO Osamu Masuko said he would handle the duties of both people for the time being until replacements are found. Source: Automotive News (Subscription Required), Mitsubishi Motors Press Release is on Page 2 Personnel Changes (Resignation) of Members of the Board Tokyo, May 18, 2016 - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced resignation of members of the board as follows: 1. Member of the Board who will resign Tetsuro Aikawa President and COO, Representative Director Ryugo Nakao Executive Vice President, Representative Director 2. Reason for resignations As our announcement today on the Report to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism concerning improper conduct in fuel consumption testing of vehicles manufactured by MMC shows, MMC has caused tremendous trouble and concern to our customers and all of our stakeholders. Considering this, Mr. Aikawa and Mr. Nakao decided today that they will resign as Representative Directors as of June 24, 2016. 3. Date of resignation June 24 (the day of MMC's ordinary shareholders meeting) We will decide on the successors of both Representative Directors at our board of directors' meeting and make an announcement promptly View full article

We knew that the Cadillac ELR would be driving off into the sunset, but we didn't know when. "I plan to continue admiring it as one of the most beautiful cars on four wheels. But we don't plan further investment" in the coupe, said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen back in February. This lead many to believe that Cadillac was going to keep the ELR until the end of the 2016 model year. That would not be the case as General Motors quietly stopped production in the same month. “Cadillac ELR production recently concluded. A very small quantity of ELR units remain available at dealers today,” said Cadillac Product Communications Manager David Caldwell in a statement to Hybrid Cars. Through April, Cadillac only moved 357 ELRs. Source: Hybrid Cars View full article

The Cadillac ELR Has Left the Building... Back in February

I noticed the same thing but this is going to happen after several weeks of very intense discussions across multiple threads. There is always the "letdown" period before it seems to start back up again. It also happens when the repeating trolls get set aside for their actions. That does tend to pare the posts down because no one has to deal with the trolling BS afterwards until it all starts anew on the next "My Ford is better than your Chevy" (and vice versa obviously) or "Cadillac sucks because they can't blah blah blah" thread. The other factor is that those kind of threads can get a little tiring to see the EXACT same "arguments" made time and time again. Yeah I have noticed most of exactly what you described as well.. it just doesn't usually get quite this dead. But then again when searching the magazines' websites there wasn't much good there either to talk about anyway. We're in the quiet season of automotive news. There isn't really much to report and it shows. Hence, why I'm not doing much in news writing. Like Drew, I'm working in the background. There will hopefully be a constant stream of reviews and editorials in a few weeks (currently through backlog that stretches back to January).

This year's New York Auto Show saw Nissan reveal a facelifted GT-R complete with a new front end and a more powerful version of the twin-turbo V6 engine. But Nissan is hard at work on designing the next generation GT-R. Automotive News spoke with Nissan's chief creative officer, Shiro Nakamura. Nakamura said one of the key goals with the next GT-R is to boost the efficiency of the twin-turbo V6 and there is the possibility of the vehicle using a hybrid system. "Electrification is almost inevitable for any car. If the next-generation GT-R has some electrification, nobody would be surprised at that time," said Nakamura. Deciding the powertrain configuration will play a key role into how the next GT-R is designed. Nakamura admits redesigning the GT-R will be a challenge. "It's very tough to redesign this car, but we are starting now." Nakamura believes the GT-R still looks good because it doesn't try to copy or follow design trends. "To my eye, it still doesn't look old because it's not influenced by anything. If it tries to capture some trend, it would look dated," said Nakamura. The goals with the GT-R redesign is to improve overall aerodynamics and performance. Source: Automotive News (Subscription Required) Pic Credit: Newspress USA View full article

We could count on our fingers on the stories saying the Kia GT will go into production since it was first shown as a concept back at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. But we had no hard evidence to show it was really coming, it was mostly hearsay. But an eagle eye spy photographer caught the first spy shots of the GT. How do we know its the GT? The Audi A7-like roofline gives it away. We can pull out some other details such as similarly shaped headlights like the GT concept and large air intakes. Around back is a set of quad exhaust tips, which Motor Trend speculates this prototype has the new twin-turbo 3.3L V6 with 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. The production version of the GT will likely retain a rear-drive layout, possibly using the platform underpinning the Hyundai Genesis (soon to become the Genesis G80). Rumor has it that Kia could premiere the production GT at this year's Paris Motor Show. Source: Motor Trend View full article

Genesis is following in the footsteps of other luxury automakers by planning a number of plug-in models. Speaking with Automotive News, Hyundai Motor America' CEO Dave Zuchowski said Genesis and Hyundai are working on a number of plug-in hybrid vehicles. Zuchowski explained the brands see this a stepping stone to hydrogen vehicles. "Some of those [plug-in hybrids] will take the form of the Genesis side of our business. We believe alternative-propulsion engines are going to be really important -- even more important in the luxury market than they are in the mainstream market," said Zuchowski. Zuchowski kept quiet on Genesis vehicles will get the plug-in treatment. But considering Genesis' lineup in the near future will include will include a couple of SUVs and a small compact sedan to join the G80 midsize sedan and G90 flagship, we wouldn't be surprised if one of those SUVs and the G90 get the plug-in option. Last April, then Mercedes-Benz USA CEO Steve Cannon said they wanted the truck that was announced for other markets and said a decision would be reached towards the end of the year. A few months later, Cannon said the decision had been pushed back to sometime in 2016. Now, Cannon's successor says there isn't a timeframe as to a final decision. "It's whenever. I don't think we do ourselves a favor to come up with a defined timetable. It's more important that we get it right," said Dietmar Exler, CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA to Automotive News. Exler explained the previous timeframe announcements dealt if they wanted to get the new truck around the same time as other markets. "If we miss the window, then we come a year later," Exler said. This might be a good thing as Exler said it would give them time to make sure the truck is a true Mercedes-Benz model inside and out. To help Mercedes ultimately make a final decision, they are talking with a select group dealers about the truck. Exler mentioned that they could do customer clinics. Already, the owner Mercedes-Benz's largest dealer in the U.S., AutoNation CEO Mike Jackson said Mercedes should scrap the plans as it will face a huge challenge against the likes of Ford, GM, and Ram. The long-rumored joint roadster/sports car project that BMW and Toyota are working on has found a home for production. German newspaper Kleine Zeitung reports Magna Steyr - a unit of Magna International based in Canada and specializes in building low-volume models - has been contracted by BMW to build a new model at the Graz, Austria plant starting in 2018. The plan is to have an annual production run of 60,000 vehicles. BMW has confirmed that it will be contracting Magna Steyr to build a new model next year after deciding it would end production of the Countryman and Paceman at the factory - possibly the next 5-Series sedan. The Paceman will be axed while the Countryman will be moved to the Netherlands to the factory that produces the standard MINI. Neither BMW or Magna Steyr commented on what the model would be. Considering the low production numbers in question, many believe that is reserved for the new BMW roadster (possibly named Z5) and the Toyota Supra. The recently announced alliance between Mitsubishi and Nissan is already starting to bear some fruit out. Speaking with CarAdvice, Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said there was a possibility of the two companies of sharing a platform for their next-generation midsize trucks - the Mitsubishi Triton and Nissan Navara. “[it’s] very possible that we are going to use the same platform, but we’re going to develop the cars differently because the customers are not the same,” said Ghosn. “But instead of two different platforms we can have them on the same platform but be completely different products. The cost of development and purchasing will be lower. A common platform, but different developments.” It is unclear if the two companies will jointly develop a new platform or if Mitsubishi will license one from Nissan. But don't expect new models to come anytime soon. Both Mitsubishi and Nissan have recently launched new versions of their trucks, and it will be awhile before we see new ones. What Would Buy Instead- Jeep Grand Cherokee Edition
William Maley replied to Frisky Dingo's topic in The Lounge
Easy, For those wondering, this is the same vehicle that Car & Driver had. I just had it in a few weeks ago. I would buy it as is.
