  1. Given Japan's occupation of China (and other wartime atrocities), Chinese customers are right to be wary of buying anything Japanese. Indeed, I wonder why Toyota and Honda and Nissan sell any cars in China in the first place. As for the Genesis G70, that car (along with the Kia Stinger) are simply the second-generation Hyundai Genesis coupe (with more and better features). Badge snobs will always buy German because they wish to impress their friends (and some of them like German cars). But the notion that German cars are perfect and all others tremble is simply not true at all. If that were true, then why do Lexus and Infiniti exist at all? Why has Cadillac survived from its cratering of 20-30 years ago to its current rise up the respect and sales charts? If German cars were so perfect and completely dominated luxury sales, then why do Lincoln (barely) and Acura hang on for dear life? Multiple luxury marques would be as dead as Oldsmobile if that were true.
  2. THat's an insult to the Genesis G70. The CLA is an inferior car for more money (interior aside). THat's an insult to the Genesis G70. The CLA is an inferior car for more money (interior aside).
  3. I guess when Americans have a love for sedans like back in the 1980s and 1990s, then Cadillac will sell more than a few thousand V-series sedans.
  4. I could think of a lot of families who might like an EV minivan. Now if Chrysler extended that platform to include CUVs, they could pull out of that sad spiral they have been in for a while now. As for the end of the 300, sad but inevitable I guess. The platform is really old and they have not improved the car much in the last five years at least.
  5. Since the USA does not have the capacity to make as much steel and aluminum as it did back in 1970, the tariffs are all bad for anyone who does not own a steel or aluminum mill (or those who work there). Apparently the president thinks he can bring back the 1950s economically speaking. No one told him that tariffs are a bad idea period. NO one told him that inflation is bad too.
  6. The I6 should make a comeback, and not just at FCA. GM and Ford need to do the same. Turbo 4cyl are overrated.
  7. If Elon were smart, he would either resign from Tesla or sell it off to a larger automaker. There is never any good reason for any CEO to try and short squeeze any short sellers of their corporate stock. None.
  8. NOBODY will undersell anybody these days. All carmakers want that extra profit and get as much as they can. MB will probably price theirs at around $80K rather than $70K.
  9. An electric start up receiving investment funds from a sovereign investment fund built on oil revenues. That is weird indeed. You would think that the Saudis would find a way to increase oil consumption rather than reduce it.
  10. Too bad FCA did not bother putting a midsize pickup truck a few years earlier. Not sure it will succeed given how well the Colorado/Canyon are selling these days. . . . and the new Ranger.
  11. No need for Cadillac to have a diesel engine vehicle for the first time since the early 80s. A fully electric Cadillac XT5 would be really sweet these days.
  12. Apparently BMW has NOT learned to avoid the Lexus mistake of having a front fascia look a lot like a predator waiting to chomp down on its prey. Sad.
  13. Porsche and Audi and a few other luxury marques that DO NOT SELL in the same volumes as VW and Skoda. Of course VW could just build all of their cars outside of Germany, but given that part of VW is owned by Lower Saxony, that probably will not happen. Ever.
  14. Why have a subscription model when the industry has had leasing since around 1985? Seems redundant and silly to me.
  15. The HP numbers switched from SAE gross to SAE net in 1972. That explains the drop in HP numbers.
  16. OK. Does that apply to the Camaro? I agree that this does NOT apply to the Firebird.
  17. Gotta like that new MB dash and infotainment setup. Really classy. Also encouraged that MB is returning to an I6 engine after a 20 year hiatus. One question: so when will GM give Cadillac an I6 worthy of the marque? And upgrade CUE as well? Remember when GM had torquey V6 engines and now the 3.6 is rather weak on torque? Bring back a (smaller) Atlas 4200 I6 please.
  18. But thanks to the VW and FCA diesel debacles, all European makes are switching to EVs instead. Welcome to 2018 not 1998 or 1978.
  19. Sounds like the Camaro needs a brand new model rather than just an MCE, just on looks and trunk space alone. As for the 4cyl, that is the reality that we live in if they want higher Camaro sales. Back in the F-body days, the majority of Camaro and Firebird sales were V6 models, not the faster and hairier V8 models. The Mustang had the exact same sales mix. Apparently, not much as changed in 50 years.
  20. Great idea. So when will GM build an electric-powered Corvette (or at least a Camaro)?
  21. Best time for an IPO is usually long before a market downturn, at least one year. One other thing: Geely may not take Volvo public for regulatory reasons too if they want to list in the US or Europe or Japan/Hong Kong/Singapore.
  22. Why would anyone buy an Azera when they can get an Avalon or a Lacrosse and end up with a better car?! Back to this new Genesis: SMK4565 has a point. Genesis needs a CUV or two to really make inroads in the luxury market these days. One of them should be based on this EV concept.
  23. Two questions: One: When will they build a Silverado and/or a Tahoe version of this truck? Two: What is that gray pipe jutting out of the front passenger side quarter panel?
  24. This will probably lead to all Toyota and Lexus hybrids being recalled for this and similar issues.
  25. Another (near) casualty of the crossover wars. Sad.
