  1. CAFE has been the wrong approach to fuel efficiency since it was first made law back in 1975. Better to let customers buy what they want/need and let them deal with the consequences of their purchase, especially if gas/diesel prices spike again.
  2. Too bad the closest thing to a real sports sedan Toyota will build is a Lexus GS sedan. This Camry XSE is a bit of a poseur. More Show than actual GO.
  3. The Golf does not have a CAFE problem. The real issue is that VW and Audi are selling a lot of crossovers that use turbo 4cyl engines (and a few V6es too). Remember that CAFE is based on what cars you sell and how many. Hence why Honda can sell CAFE credits to FCA because of their respective product mixes and sales of those product mixes.
  4. OK. Who rents out small cars like the Cruze anyway? I'd rather rent out an Impala any day of the week.
  5. All of you assume that the Roxor will always be off-road and NEVER street legal. Mahindra could modify the Roxor to be street legal and take on the Wrangler one day. It may sound pedantic, but FCA is right to defend its trademarks against all comers.
  6. Europe especially needs to consolidate. That market is shrinking as we speak. China will have a recession where some automakers will pull out or die. Survival of the fittest in action.
  7. Maybe Alan Mulally could get Tesla bought out by some other automaker and let everyone cash out.
  8. Too bad Cadillac will NOT do that here. Too many complaints from certain groups.
  9. How petty and vindictive. Poor Elon Musk (NOT). Musk whines and wants to do something because somebody disagrees with his vision and are actively shorting Tesla shares. He failed to look at all alternatives to going private and declared that Tesla should be private without considering ALL the consequences. And only after much ridicule and a possible SEC investigation, he quietly withdraws his proposal to go private. I do hope other billionaires learn a valuable lesson from this: just because you are a billionaire does not make you divine or omnipotent.
  10. There is always a letdown from concept to production. Some letdowns are steeper than others. Unfortunately it does happen a lot throughout the industry.
  11. Love those suicide doors. Doubtful that feature will make production though.
  12. Maybe Chevy should build a Trax EV and an Equinox EV along with the Bolt.
  13. It would take some balls for the new CEO to simply dump European production for US production. In some cases, some automakers build in (somewhat cheaper) Central Europe, but it would be better to simply ditch European production entirely.
  14. I am not sure it will take 10 years. I would give it 20-25 years so that all the bugs are out and the AI won't try to kill us.
  15. One Q: how much will the CT4 sell for? And the CT5? If they are too closely priced, then no buyer would ever pick a CT4 since the CT5 would presumably be larger and/or better. Base prices need to be close to 3 series and 5 series pricing but a little lower. This may be a time to remind Cadillac that ONE sedan can take the place of those two, especially since there is no XT7 to take care of the large CUV segment. The only reason Buick has not failed here is because of the Encore and Envision (and to a lesser extent the Enclave). Cadillac needs to do the same quickly and not leave so much money on the table. New sedan sales are falling and customers want CUVs. Keep the CT6 and the Escalade but fill out your CUV portfolio please.
  16. That is easy to explain. FWD cars have no transmission tunnel, unlike RWD cars.
  17. I doubt those numbers will actually improve significantly unless gas is at least $5 nationwide (and $6 in California).
  18. VSS-S? what is that exactly? On which cars/crossovers is that platform supposed to go?
  19. Arguably they have a point, especially since Mercury was unceremoniously whacked back in 2010. Works great for Cadillac dealerships.
  20. Given that upgraded engine, I suspect the Escalade will be even more expensive than it already is.
  21. Makes sense for GMC to have a CUV the same size as the Trax and Encore. I have seen A LOT of Encores on the road in the last two years, which arguably makes the Encore the best seller for Buick (here in the USA). Some customers would rather have the GMC look instead of the Trax or the somewhat feminine-looking Encore.
  22. I am sure BMW can build an exciting EV. . . . . as soon as they feel like devouring sales of their own 3, 5, and 7 series. This would be more true if that applies to the X3, X1, X5 and X7.
  23. Maybe the Saudis are interested: http://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2018/08/saudis-appear-to-be-key-to-taking-tesla-private/
  24. It is always wise to learn from your competitors, especially where they fail. Now if only GM can get the Silverado AND Sierra to outsell the F-series combined.
