A "Would You Rather" Thread - Grosse Pointe Blanke Edition

Yeah....that M3 is about the last generation (or 2nd to last) of the M3s that is iconic of what 3 Series BMWs do... OK...today's M2 and M235i and the 2 Series in general has got BMW going back to its roots. But Im willing to bet that any of the lowest selling crossovers they sell still beats the 2 Series in sales... -

The world is into smart phones that have apps...the world is into eating garbage in your car (lattes and the like), the world is into texting and being online rather than....driving. The world has moved into a place where rather than turn their head to check their blind spot, they prefer a beep beep sound to tell them someone is there....or to have a back-up camera on a compact car that is as of 2017 or 2018, standard equipment MANDATED by law...(not all cars have a cocoon like interior like the Camaro does) Its the continual dummying down of a driver or even as a human being that propels the preference of an individual to have less and less responsibility... It used to be a joy to drive and people WANTED to look over their shoulder to check their blind spot. People WANTED to shift their own gears (although that part of spirited driving was the first to go as SOON as the first automatics appeared on the scene in the 1940s), people WANTED to....simply drive.... Now it has become a chore. Traffic congestion is also a HUGE factor in which enjoyment of a driver's car is IMPOSSIBLE to experience when there are NO roads free of traffic in a daily driven endeavor... -

Car renting might evolve to something that may resemble car sharing...but car sharing the way Silicon Valley wants to sell it aint happening... -
Industry News: Why Are New Car Sales Falling? Higher Prices
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
I dont think car sharing will ever be a thing. We even have a form of it today...its called renting a car at Hertz or Avis or Thrifty etc... And why I think that? OK...where to start? Ask a rental agency in what condition do some cars arrive back at their rental shop. The vomit, the condoms and semen stains, the feces and the piss, the pizza stains and ketchup and salsa and Coca-Cola spills, the cigarette stinks and stains and butts, the drugs... Who will be cleaning that shyte up? At least when you rent a car from any rental agency, the agency cleans it up for the next person.... If you tell me that there will be rules in place that will make the user clean up his own mess....HA! Most OWNERS of their OWN cars dont keep THEIR OWN vehicles clean, what makes you think that an user will clean a car he dont own? Besides....time will not permit this... Im to use a car until 2:00 PM and the new user needs it at that time....by golly Ill be using that car until 2:00 PM... OK....so the usage of the car will include cleaning time.... HA! How many times have YOU rented a hotel room and YOUR room was NOT ready?! How many times has ANY appointment of ANY kind been on time?! ANOTHER POINT WHO is in charge of the upkeep, regular maintenance costs of the vehicle? People will agree to THOUSANDS of dollars of repairs to cars they dont actually own???!!!! People WHINE about car repairs to cars they actually own and dont do them!!! OK....Leasing FORCES them to do repairs...so this may be the same! WRONG! Leasing a car also means you the car is in YOUR possession at all times and you use it whenever and wherever YOU want it....like I said....sharing a car has restrictions on when you can use it as you have to wait for it and plan your life around waiting for a car to use....FREEDOM of TRAVEL WILL be RESTRICTED....and with that....NEGATIVITY towards ANYTHING regarding a car you dont own will be an issue....meaning people will just view car sharing as a burden especially when forcing to spend money on one will be forced upon them...like I said...who will be responsible for the thousands of dollars of repairs? Remember...car sharing from NOW is being billed as a CHEAPER way to use a vehicle.... Remember....humans dont treat cars they own correctly, they treat cars they dont own even worse....again...ask the people who work at rental agencies.... Another point... Will there be restrictions to where one could go or use the vehicle? A car will ALWAYS represent FREEDOM, even if there are financial tie downs and our highways are congested limiting some of those freedoms....but restricting a shared car's usage limits that freedom even more.... When we own our own car outright....we have the right and FREEDOM to do whatever the phoque we want with OUR car!!! So...car sharing is just a dream!!! IT COULD WORK.... If North America compensated with a plethora of alternatives for the car sharer as in if a citizen of a city and a suburbanite had access to better and abundant public transportation....a shyte load of more buses, a shyte load of more subway systems and a high speed train network...that connects ALL OF NORTH AMERICA together... Yeah....like that will ever happen! So...like I said...car sharing is just a dream! -
Industry News: Why Are New Car Sales Falling? Higher Prices
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
Another reason? Its cyclical, non? Car sales go up...and up...and up...for 1-2-3-4-5-6 years, maybe a 7nth..maybe an 8th, but that is pushing it... Then, car sales come down....and down....for 1-2-3-4 years, maybe a 5th....then they go up again for 1-2-3 years, maybe a 4rth..maybe a 5th...then, car sales come down....and down....for 1-2-3 years.... I dont read too much into that...in 2009 and 2010 and 2011, car sales were at an all time low just AFTER they were at an all time high....and right after 2012 we started getting back to per-banckrupty(pre bank melt down) levels just to finish at an all time high again just to see the cycle be in retreating mode! But yes...higher car price tags dont help... People will adjust... People will buy used...people will either just keep their old car or trade up for a newer used car and when the used car market will deplete itself again (due to the high levels of new car sales prior...and now there are less nice used cars available because new car sales have dipped recently) then the cycle of new car sales will increase...again...only to decrease....only to increase... Leases make this up and down cycle happen more frequently... Im assuming about the leases part.... Ive observed the up and down thing... My analysis and conclusion maybe all wrong though....but to let you in on a little secret... I dont think Im far off from the truth! -

Lincoln Town Car for me as well. I aint no Euro-trash/snob douchebag. (A little harsh...but I said it for effect!) I always equated millionaire with the Lincoln Town Car....blame the pinball game I played as a kid! THAT IS A TOWN CAR Limo I ALWAYS LOVED! American Cars! American Luxury! FTR! (Phoque The Rest) @Cubical-aka-Moltar I remember closing up my restaurant one Sunday night and having nothing to do that night, going to a video store right after and renting this movie RELUCTANTLY when this movie first came out on VHS to rent as there was nothing else available... Boy..was I pleasantly surprised...WHAT A GREAT AND UNDER RATED MOVIE THIS STILL IS!!! -
Im afraid that boat though, has since sailed away! I dont know when, why and where they went astray, but the path they chose at the tail end of the last century or at the beginning of this one is clearly a path of epic failure! They had the world in their hands in the 1990s and could have had a lot more with the movie franchise the Fast and the Furious.... What could have been is a question Mitsubishi should be asking themselves! I dont think they could revive themselves in this market...

As you folk have realized by now, I like observing vehicles and pairing them up and asking our little community here which of the two they prefer to own. Anecdotes and opinions of which vehicle is preferred or disliked over the other is ALWAYS welcomed and ENCOURAGED! During my absence a couple of months ago for a few weeks, I saw several interesting movies with interesting cars...this week's comparison comes from the movie Grosse Pointe Blank. The two cars in question: 1995 Lincoln Town Car And a 1998 BMW 735iL While the movie does not really focus on the two cars, the two cars in question do have important symbolism roles... Anyway....which of the two do you prefer to putz around in as a daily driver representing your profession and status in your city? -

You made a funny!

I would love that colour on the Wrangler. But yeah....nice ride there, Blu!

1. Daily Driver I wanted an Olds...but Oldsmobiles are now a tad too old to daily drive. There is the Aurora...but if I choose the Aurora, I might as well choose a newer vehicle in the Pontiac Bonneville and one that is a tad more powerful than the Aurora V8 and and that point, the 2005 Bonneville GXP is probably that platform's best iteration...and it looks better than the Aurora...sleeker, sexier and waaaaay less bloated.... so....2005 Pontiac Bonneville GXP 2. SUV I usually choose a Jeep Wrangler in these situations, but after doing the last Dream Garage Thread, I got jealous of what I gave to FordCosworth... I want one too! This one. From 1985. 3. Family car/cruiser. A shout out to Cubical. The newest Lincoln Town Car I could get within the rules...2007. 4. Week-end warrior car. I just LOOOOOVE these... It wont be the big block classics as those may exceed the 15K limit...but it be the Disco era T-Top with the choked 400 or Olds 403 or whatever they came in....1979 vintage where Pontiac sold a ton of them and so the price aint high just yet .... In whatever colour combo is available but definitely the Bird is on that hood with those snowflake hwheels. Preferable like the pic, but blue will do....or white. Or gold.... The silver anniversary one may exceed 15K though! Like a BOSS! This is how Id be doing it EVERYWHERE ID GO!!! Yes...in 2017 as a 44 year old father of 2 children and happily married!

Thanx...but I dont think Drew will appreciate you encouraging me in any way...

This is fun....so Ill continue... @FordCosworth See he doesnt appreciate the boyracer look....and I dont know how he feels about Ford's new GT...and he doesnt like a Vette for the 'fake' vents it has because boyracer for 1 brand has a different definition for Ford for him and the Ford GT seems to employ the same type of 'fake' air regulators and go fast stuff, I will NOT take a chance by granting him a new Ford GT...so...Ill be giving him a 4 door Corvette in the form of a VLF Destino. No need to worry Mr. FordCosworth, this car does not have the burnt valved LS7 under the hood...this one has the very reliable LS9 under the hood. Very sleek and sexy car. And...for his second car...a military surplus pick-up truck. Built like tanks these Toyotas are!!! He will appreciate the ruggedness...I hope!

@dfelt For you, always complainin' how tall you are and how cars dont fit you too good....and you lovin' your Trailblazer SS and you lovin' big American Iron... A 1940s redux and restomodded Dodge Carryall Power Wagon...it may not have the speed of the Trailblazer SS, but it hauls ass in ways the Trailblazer can only dream of.... For me...the ultimate freedom fightin' Hell Yeah American icon is NOT a Hummer...its either the one and only Jeep or Dodge's WW2 Power Wagon! And this soooooo fits you like a glove! But you need your new American car that is big to fit you and is fast and is....American... A Cadillac XT6 is heading your way. The DOHC V8 one...you just have to wait another year for it...hence no pic....or a tiny wee one of the mundane TTV6 variety.

And now...back to my unfinished business. @Cubical-aka-Moltar You do own or owned a Mustang, a fox body Mustang. Cool car...I guess...its just that particular Mustang is not my cup of tea, but this is about you and NOT about me.... I see you as a cool cat...a cool cat that deserves a cool cat...just not a Jaguar as that belongs to @A Horse With No Name, but a Cougar. A 1969 Cougar Eliminator 428 CJ...a car classy car with style, muscle and pizzazz. And your second car... I think that you would enjoy a 2018 Lincoln Navigator...so...its yours.

Yup. I am one of these types of guys. I could see how a manual transmission gives joy to people, I for one dont have that joy... Yes, yes...correct gear for heading into a curve (which may mean downshifting) at the perfect angle and speed, then exiting curve and possibly up shifting... Another scenario....downshifting to get those revs high and then blasting past another car in front of you while the engine is wailing.... Another scenario....power shifting slamming the gears into place preferably in a Ferrari style gated shifter...and the best of the best dont use a clutch.... You see....none of that does NOT amuse me... I find joy only in the power shifting slamming the gears into place preferably in a Ferrari style gated shifter scenario... The other scenarios...well, I am not a track car kinda guy... And to downshift to pass a guy...well, I prefer this scenario instead. I got me a muscle car... A FULLSIZED one or the official mid-sized type.... IM CRUISING nice and slow! Checking to see if there are any nice females around I could honk and whistle at....(yes...in 2017 that is sexual harassment...) Maybe I stop at a burger joint and buy myself a cheeseburger and milkshake...enjoying the sun and the Rock-N-Roll tunes on the radio....or reggae or Greek music...or just the gurgling sounds of my big cubic inch V8...meaning, Im paying more attention to my surroundings rather than the road itself...I get no kicks with the race car antics at 25 MPH...then all of a sudden, a douche bag in front of me with some sort of overpriced garbage decides he wants a piece of my American metal when all I do is just mash the pedal, anticipate the kickdown and leave the phocker in my dust....all the while hearing my V8 roar to life...and no effort was given...just a slight downward motion of the accelerator pedal... On the highway....a big American AUTOMATIC transmission V8 car = SMOOTH SAILING!!! On the highway especially on long road trips...a manual transmission car is usually left at the top gear for long periods of time... Besides....MOST American roads are STRAIGHT....no curves to really benefit the joys of shifting...AND...stop and go traffic puts a kink in the left foot clutch, right hand shift, left foot clutch, right hand shift, left foot clutch, right hand shift enjoyment every 2 seconds...

I got to do some chores...Ill be back to finish this off. I got 2 more peeps to do.

@balthazar I know he is a Poncho guy. Im Canadian. I give him exclusive Canadian Pontiac. (OK, they really are Chevys underneath with non Pontiac engines but Chevy engines and he is less of a Chevy guy than he is a Pontiac guy, but these Pontiacs are special in the Pontiac world non the less.) 1967 Pontiac Parisienne 2+2 Coupe The second car is tougher to do. He is a classic car guy so Ill just continue that way. Something about him and his posting style makes me believe he would enjoy this 1949 Buick Roadmaster convertible in that very same colour oomplete with the white walls!

@A Horse With No Name Its tough to beat Frisky's lists...they are just, incredibly awesome choices and spot on 100% representative of the posters he chose. I dont thing Ill be able to match that... But...Ill try. This is how I view you. Incredibly calm, cool and collected. A smooth, class act gentleman. Jaaaaaaag XJ12 series III Its under rated as a status car, but If I restomod it for you to bring it into the 21st century, I think it be very represented of you and quite unique in this world. And something modern to continue that theme but a tad more sportier. Not exactly a Ferrari 308/328 of Magnum PI or Beverly Hills Cop magnitude. But hot and sexy and red and Italian just the same. Abarth 124 by Fiat via Mazda.

@Frisky Dingo I LOVE the choices! You know me quite well. And yes, a BMW M6 convert is something I lust over. In the dream car garages, I choose LS 4rth gen Firebirds mostly but that Firehawk is sweeeeeeeet! So, in its your turn! Id be giving you a BMW M3 in return. I could be giving you an air cooled 911 of some sort, but the rules do say to do something different. You always choose a 911 in dream car garages. A 1995 mainland Europe only E36 M3 GT. I think an owner of this model separates the connaisseur and poseur and you, Frisky, are definitely the real deal. And for your new car: I know you loved your 4 Runner. Im giving you one back! You cant have my Unimog, but you'll have a TRD Pro at your disposal.

@A Horse With No Name @dfelt Yeah. It is a neat feature. It also keeps track of how fast the car is traveling in real time. I knew of this when he bought his car a couple of years ago but I forgot about it until yesterday. @2b2 THANK-YOU! PS: It was a $1000 worth of maintenance.... PSS: Tesla gave him a Dodge Durango R/T as a loaner???!!! That is a WTF kinda of a loaner car. All other times his had another Model S.
-
I had to go to work today...no day off as I thought I have! My partner had an issue with his Tesla Model S.... He brought it in at the Tesla Service Center for some maintenance work. So...As he was telling me...he was tracking his car for fun on his App thingy when he saw his car leave the Tesla Service Center to be found at the Montreal Bugatti Dealership. No big deal he thought as that is where Teslas get maintained sometimes...at the Bugatti dealership... Cool is what I thought when he told me! A while later, he checked upon his car again only to find it 6-7 miles away from the Bugatti Dealership parked in front of a private house... He called Tesla right away demanding to know where his car was! The folks at Tesla did not have an answer for him and that is when he phoned me to come and replace him so he could set things straight.... Turns out, the President of the Bugatti Dealership forgot something at his house so he took my partner's Model S to retrieve what he forgot at his home... So far, my partner is getting his maintenance done and changing his tires for free... Maybe other things too....he will pursue this further on Monday!

I also added: But yeah....thanx for answering me. PS: I HOPE I DID NOT CAUSE TOO MUCH ANNOYANCE WHEN I JOINED THIS FORUM FOR YOU AND THE REGULARS! I FEEL GUILTY IN WHAT HAS TRANSPIRED IN HERE THE LAST WEEK OR SO AND ALTHOUGH I WASNT THE MAIN ISSUE, I CERTAINLY DID HAVE A PART IN THAT!!!
