I think in this case its a little bit of everything as you stated. A witch hunt to destroy diesels, a cash grab PLUS I too think that GM might have cheated as I too, believe that HD diesel pick-ups are dirtier than small diesel powered cars.... Yeah...I wont be surprised to hear 1. Ford being the next target. And the reasons being what you and I just stated. 2. GM retreats in offering the Cruze Diesel and the Canyon and Colorado diesels too. 3. All manufacturers just calling it quits on diesels if a. GM is found guilty b. and/or Ford is announced next on the hit list and especially if they too are found to be guilty.

Good news for electric power. Anything that deals with fossil fuels being dirty and the tree huggers just strengthen their love for electrics. Coal powered electric farms could be used as an argument...but pictures like these make tree huggers turn a blind eye to it.... Ironically, the name of this type of action does NOT help the coal powered electric farm argument... So yeah...how clean is diesel with the big bad black proof that is displayed from the pic above?

Oh yes you can! You are thinking about these kinds of V8s... But a V8 is smooooooth sure its a Lexus... But that 500 cubic inch Cadillac V8 was that smoooooth too! With a helluva lot more torques! Hell...my dad's 1979 Impala and my own 1985 Olds Delta 305 catalytic converter mess was smoooooth too! Smoother than a V12? Probably not....Chevy and Oldsmobile not uber luxury Cadillac class....and we are talking about GM's malaise period to which Lexus had an answer for in that 1989 commercial! Coinkidinkies....that Lexus commercial was also a shot towards Mercedes Benz too! More so for M-B than Cadillac... Besides....cam technology has advanced big time to make V8s as smooth as you want them to be.... Cadillac cant charge that much for a V8? Not now they cant....perception is all phoqued.... But....they once did!!! From the late 1940s to the mid 1970s they did! (for V8 power)....because in the late 1920s and 1930s Cadillac had V16s...but....the V8 won out...ask yourself why in the cubic inched crazed 1960s, Cadillac chose not to sell anything but V8s? Because V12s mean shyte!

@FAPTurbo Then there is the red neck BMW or Mercedes owner where these owners own and drive 10 year old, burnt headlighted because too expensives to replace, sometimes rusted out 3 and 5 Series Bimmers and C and E class cars pretending to be big time playas! Oh yes....BMW and Mercedes has reached that zenith where Cadillac once was with the low class crowd pretending to be somebodys!

In Quebec in the Montreal region, the ATS is literally everywhere! Yes its got very aggressive lease deals, the fact of the matter is, Im willing to put money down, I havent checked any sales figures, but Im will to bet that in the Montreal region the ATS outsells the BMW 2 and 3 Series and the M-B C-Class! And EVERY customer I talk to about their ATS ALL LOVE the ATS! It is I who questions the existence of the ATS because I question the ATS' ability to catapult Cadillac to the next level....but at least in Quebec, the ATS has built quite a loyal following...
-
Yeah...sure... With all the big shots that I serve at my restaurant with the leased dime a dozen C-Class or GLA who ask me the price difference between a hamburger and a cheeseburger and then bitch at the 50 cent difference and opt out for the cheese while paying their bill by credit card....probably their loaded up credit card! Or the baseball moms that drive in their big boy GL SUVs whose sons and daughters play baseball/softball with my kids and when we get invited to their homes...they got the big pools and the expensive BBQs and the pave uni exterior landscaping....all the parts that show from the OUTSIDE yet their basements are unfinished and their homes are literally empty on the inside and if furnished, furnished with IKEA furniture....

Yes they sure have de-tuned it... Pagani uses this engine with its fullest potential intact...but uses a transmission from another company other than what M-B uses...that does not bode well for the "prestige" of owning a Mercedes-Benz V12... Its funny as both GM and Chrsyler use their own transmissions WITHOUT the fear of catastrophic failure.. And..lest NOT forget that the HOT ROD world pushes MOPAR and GM engines to HYPERCAR levels OFTEN using the transmissions that GM or MOPAR produce! Also....in time....A Pagani, or a M-B Black Series will just be LS swapped...just like the Ferraris every other car out there.... I was searching to post a Ferrari but this came up....LAMBORGHINIS are not safe either anymore... So much for prestigious Italian prouncing horses and V12s being the Grand Daddy of them all! The Corvette V8 looks like its the MOTHER of all engines! A Cadillac CT8 with a CADILLAC V8 will do just fine in the UBER class! Remember This is what Cadillac does best And there was a 500 cubic inch V8 under that hood. THAT is what people want from Cadillac. There is no need for a V12. And THAT is why I said a V12 means shyte!
-
Nope! A V12 means shyte! Back in the day when Detroit ruled, CUBIC INCHES ruled and those were on V8s! And those V8s put to shame ALL V12s that were sold in that era.... So much so that the Detroit V8s became LEGENDS and the V12s of that era are all but forgotten. Only Euro-files reminisce about these engines.... Today, the remnants of that could still be seen..... The Mopar Demon engine puts to shame that AMG 6.0 liter BiTurbo V12....621 horsepower.... I think the 6.2 liter supercharged 808 horsepower beast is the Grand Daddy of them all! You may not think so....but...the power numbers are all there for you to see! I want to agree with you on the electric motor thing....but Porsche and Ferrari are already there....and I have faith that Corvette and Cadillac will bet there too... I do have faith for GM in that regard...but Im not entirely convinced on that either!

Are we actually proud for self-parking cars? We are discussing which cars have park assist and which of these park themselves better? Ill be impressed when self-parking cars park like this! (And a feature that I will use ONLY if they actually park like that!) I bet you these kids will NEVER use park assist in their lives!!!

Well...I think Hyundai is copying Lexus more than BMW with the nomenclature.... And yes....I think it sucks!!!

Both Casa and Drew's responses are LOLs!!! Both Epic!!! This was me after reading them: The last one where Axle throws himself into the car was EXACTLY how I laughed at Drew's response!!!

And Jeep, therefore FCA in general..... Where would they be? Up shyte's creek... without a paddle! -
@Drew Dowdell I was just kidding around with everything trying to get laugh at louds out of people. I wasnt serious. The part of how I drive is real, the part where it seems Im grilling you is just for shytes and giggles. Like I said....I dont like touch screen infotainment centers in cars. You are in your right to hate on whatever you need to hate on and you sure as hell dont need my permission to do so either!

Valid question! I have NEVER worn gloves while driving. 3 feet of snow on my car after a blizzard and 3 feet on the ground: I wear gloves and boots and hat armed with a shovel and broom and dig myself to freedom. Once inside the car...gloves and hat come off. -40 Fahrenheit plus the windchill factor and I wear gloves and boots(optional, depending if there is snow on the ground) and hat to get inside the car...Once inside the car...only the gloves come off. I keep the hat...Im bald, I need to keep the hat.....my hairless head needs to keep warm somehow. (When I had hair....no hat was worn, ever, in this situation) I start the car WITHOUT the gloves...pray she starts in the first place and as soon as she goes vroom, I turn the heat and fan on to max and the dials go to window defrost...I leave to get back into the house...I wait 15 minutes for her to get nice and toasty...I get into the car WITHOUT gloves and hat and I drive off!

PS: @cp-the-nerd BTW: this is where your Chevy SS comes in! Its a perfect mix of muscle car madness, pony car nimbleness as a 4 door sedan....(former Camaro platform after all) and luxury....yes luxury! Through pictures as you know, Canada does not get these, seems like the Chevy SS is very well built, fit and finish being outstanding and the leather appointments look like they could belong in an Oldsmobile or Buick as opposed to Chevrolet! And THAT is what makes the SS such a fantastic car! -

Im in the camp that rejoices, but I agree that this will NOT help their rep one iota! And I would say that there will be FAR MORE people rolling their eyes than rejoicing...so yeah! You are SPOT ON!!!! If this is true, though....in order of preference for me: 1. Challenger Hellcat 2. 300 Hellcat and/or Demon 3. Challenger Demon (a 300 Demon fits above the Challenger Demon because Id option it less for a dragster and more for a freakin fast sedan for daily driven family usage and the 300 luxury stuff with the 4 doors helps a lot better than the 2 and the sportiness of the pony car persona with the sedan persona of the 300...) 4. Charger Hellcat -
@dfelt I dont have a use for touch screens in my cars... Radio....it stays on 1 channel....AM sports talk radio. USB key for music...knobs and buttons to fiddle around with volume and to switch to the next song is good enough for me.... Speedometer....would you believe me that I dont use it? I know approx. what speed Im rolling at through sheer experience... Plus...again....through experience, I can feel what the car is doing when I actually drive it and toss it around a corner and stuff....pilots call that flying by the seat of your pants! So....an analog tach and speedometer (they could be digital on a screen or HUB) and a USB friendly radio with actual knobs is where its at for me. OK...all that could be on a modern infotainment system and I WONT complain...alls Im saying is I PREFER old school gauges because I get a pleasure from actual driving....(its ironic that I HATE manual transmissions) but I get visual pleasure of observing the landscape and EΧΤΕRNAL surroundings rather than infotainment centers! As far as flying by the seat of my pants goes....they ONLY stimulant I DONT like IS shifting my own gears! The rest of of it I LOVE....I LOVE FEELING WHAT THE CAR IS DOING AT ALL TIMES!!! And THAT does NOT require LCD screens OR gauges of ANY KIND (to a degree of course....) ESPECIALLY WHEN IM NOT SHIFTING MY OWN GEARS...but then again....a GOOD MANUAL DRIVER DOES NOT NEED THE TACH TO KNOW WHEN TO SHIFT HIS OWN MACHINE!!! HE SHOULD KNOW WHEN BY THE SOUND AND FEEL OF HIS MOTOR!!!

About the glove argument.... I was shopping for new gloves this past winter and I noticed that there are big, thick warm gloves good for -40 (Farhenheit or Celsius...same temperature actually) that are touch screen friendly....technology advances in gloves too! So...wearing gloves should not be a problem in 2017 for these touch screens... Let it be known though that I dont like screens of any kind in my cars! I think its gimmicky! But, since phones and computers and home improvement electronics are this way anywhere from thermostats to alarm system keypads to lighting, to all in one giant touch screen central basepad that uses the smartphone to connect your house and yourself anywhere on the planet to even control your audio equipment and your connected freakin' esspresso machine ....the auto industry just as well follow suit. HOME AUTOMATION IS INSANE!!! Like I said, cars just as well join in on the fun!

Grunge aint really my thing....but yeah, very sad day for music indeed. He did have a powerful voice. Its even sadder when we just learned that yet another human took his own life... Many of us it seems suffer mental illness.
