If they are priced the same, I think I'd only really want the Charger because I would see myself with some aftermarket exhaust and a louder 300 seems trashy but an equally loud Charger seems to fit. FWIW, I wouldn't do anything obnoxious, likely a Borla/Flowmaster/Magnaflow cat-back.

To me, the threat of ban sounds more like he is trying to get our tariff lowered as opposed to raising theirs. IMO, because everybody raising prices doesn't really help but if ours got lowered from 10% to match theirs at 2.5%..1: they would still sell here which is a good thing and 2: our sales to them would likely increase as prices to consumers over there would decrease with a lower tax which would still help our overall economy.

I'd love a 5.7 300 or Charger. I think it would be difficult to buy a 300 over a Charger though. There doesn't seem to be a large enough gap in "niceness" for a 300.

I know a flat/regular panel isn't that bad but we'd be talking about all this curvature and fitment that goes into a body panel. I know $10,000 was an exaggeration but I'd still have to believe they'd be hella more expensive than a steel or aluminum body panel. Or even carbon fiber. Yeah, that's stupid.

Solar panel body... sounds like a fender bender would total that thing out. Door ding, loses 18% of range and costs $10,000 to replace.

The idea behind the threat, from my understanding, is to get the tariff on the same level playing field as they tax our cars 10% while we only tax theirs 2.5%, whether it is raising our tariff or getting them to lower theirs. I think there is zero chance they ban German automobiles.

I think this could work! I think something like the Subaru Crosstrek or new Focus Active would work with a Jeep nameplate.

Personally, I think there is room in the market for Alfa but I don't understand bringing back low margin compacts with Fiat. I'd get rid of Fiat and keep Alfa as a real luxury line to compete with the Germans and Caddy. They might be bleeding because of them right now but I bet a lot of that is just people don't even know where to buy them yet. They probably have a really small dealer network. Dodge Ram Chrisler Alfa There is room for them all. They just need to do things right. Make Chrylser like a Lincoln/Lexus/Acura/Infiniti competitor. Dodge would be mainstream. Alfa and Ram are pretty clear what their roles are already. Hahaha I forgot about Jeep but their role is also obvious. The goal is the same, kill sedans. That's all i see here as well. I actually can't think of one that isn't all 4 brands.

Is the GigaFactory partially owned by Panasonic then? I thought they were building that to also build their batteries there or is that just for the final assembly? Also, it's a plug-in Escape not Focus, which I think they need really bad. I will seriously consider a plug-in Escape as a next vehicle. I was originally thinking of a second vehicle originally but a plug-in would be fantastic.

Oh no, I completely agree on the financial investing part of that. Warren knows what the heck he is doing. I don't think somebody should be held "hostage" for buying something foreign prior to being elected but I do think while in office you should only buy American. "Range anxiety is real. Take it from someone who has been stranded with his wife in an electric vehicle not once but twice: You’ll want to watch the distance-to-empty gauge of an EV with a close eye. This is even more critical when the temperature drops below freezing, which is exactly why we ran a 2018 Chevrolet Bolt EV on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy loop in icy February to gauge how low temperatures affect electric range. ... With the thermometer’s needle pointing at 36 degrees Fahrenheit, we headed out with the cruise control set at a steady 75 mph. We averaged 83 MPGe. Compared with the 102 MPGe we recorded in a 2017 Bolt in 56-degree weather (nearly ideal conditions), that’s a 19 percent drop in fuel economy. Calculating the EV range based on battery capacity means a Bolt will travel 140 miles in the cold versus the 180 miles we recorded in the autumn. But the fuel economy and EV range in our test cars come with a couple of caveats. ... According to Jim Khoury, General Motors’ senior manager of global battery engineering, the Bolt’s onboard thermal management doesn’t come into play until the battery’s temperature (not the ambient temperature) drops below 37 degrees Fahrenheit or spikes above 95 degrees. It takes a while for the pack’s heater, which is integrated in the battery’s liquid-cooling circuit, to raise the battery’s core temperature. In the case of cold-weather operation, the 1.8-kW heater kicks in (which is a significant portion of the power draw on a car cruising at highway speeds), pulling energy from the battery and reducing range. Khoury also points out that all the other accessories used in winter, including seat heaters, cabin heaters, and even headlights (there is less sunlight so they’re used more), increase the demands on the battery in winter months. None of these accessories were used during our cold-weather test, however (we usually set the interior climate control to 72 degrees for our highway fuel-economy tests but wanted to maximize range). Khoury also informed us that the battery heater is one reason why there sometimes is a nonlinear relationship between the distance-to-empty gauge dropping and the odometer climbing. It takes time for the heater to warm up the battery (much like an engine heating up, only it takes longer), which causes a precipitous drop in range early in the trip. We started our winter highway test with an indicated 170 miles of range. When we turned around 66 miles later, the indicated range was 85 miles. Yet when we returned, after traveling the same 66 miles, the remaining range was 35 miles—not the 19 miles we expected.
