Fitness thread: All topics related to personal health and wellness

That also reminds me.. I've used/still use sometimes an app called "MyFitnessPal" and it is a GREAT way to track what you're eating. It has a barcode scanner so you can just scan whatever barcode and it will bring up the stats of the food/drink and it will give you a daily goal based on your job/lifestyle(for instance, I sit at a desk all day so I chose the "sedentary" one). deflt, Dang...1200 calories a day for an adult male??? That seems so low to me. I'm in the 1800-2000 range. Depending on the workout I allow myself to eat a little more. Like.. a good leg day where I can barely walk afterwards.. I allow myself to eat a little more knowing my body is using everything I'm taking in. -
"Buyback values will be determined by the retail value of the affected vehicle as of September 2015, prior to Volkswagen's public disclosure of the widespread emissions cheating. Owners who choose to sell their cars back to Volkswagen will receive between $12,500 and $44,000, depending on vehicle condition and mileage. The Federal Trade Commission is also requiring VW to pay off the loans of owners who owe more than their affected TDI vehicle is worth, up to 130 percent of the buyback value of the car. Those who leased their affected TDI vehicles are eligible for a no-cost lease termination." http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/car-technology/news/a29743/vw-tdi-emissions-settlement-cost-update/

Welllllll... I'll give my opinion on the matter but this is not fact.. hopefully dfelt can answer. If you're cutting way back on your overall calories and working out, aka burning more calories, are you taking in too few of calories now? And because your body is getting what sounds like higher quality foods maybe your body is also absorbing the foods and utilizing them much better a long with fewer calories and burning way more you might have swung a little too extreme for your body.. Do you count your calories? if so, about how man have you taken in and burnt a day for this week? -

THANK YOU! First off, I agree with about everything else you posted, good information! But mostly, the carbs thing. Carbs are energy. The body and BRAIN need energy for minimum daily activities. I'm not saying carb-load but the body needs waaaay more than those fad diets allow(I forget the name of it but one is like 5g a day..that's nuts.)...which is ironic because everybody that I've ever known to do those fad diets, and have success, later gains the weight back because it is not a realistic lifestyle and extreme. You have to be comfortable and enjoy what you're doing a long with the gains. -

Water is such a great suggestion. I know it is difficult at times for myself to drink water and not something else but it is a GREAT way to shave a lot of wasted calories out of a diet. I need to grab one of those Mios myself. I've only heard great thing about yoga to be honest. It just isn't a "manly" thing to do so I think many males tend to stay away from it. Great suggestion to hit up a few classes for cheap then once you've learned a bit to do it on our own at home. Pre-workouts CAN be great but like you said, most are filled with cheap product and caffeine. There are good ones that can improve your workouts but a lot of the cheaper ones are more of a quick hit of energy. Buuuuut I wouldn't get into the pre-workout thing until you start to get a little burnt out and need a little kick or a change to spike the workout again. Ohhhh that tingly beta-alanine feeling.. I'm not a fan of it but I know it's working! Great advise FAP! -

Personally this line has always annoyed me. Are you going to die at 30 or 80? If you eat $h!ty and don't exercise and still live to 80 are you able to move around on your own? Can you go watch your grandkids graduate high school or are you stuck relying on other people because you never took care of the one body you got? Everybody does die but it's how you get to that point that varies wildly. -
This is a very good point. Why would an automaker stop at diesel only?

I've got a buddy who would really appreciate a $5,000 check(I thought I read somewhere that is more the "expected" amount).

In all reality cars today are so competitive with each other in so many categories that really is what it boils down to... what do you think looks the best. A tenth or two here or there, a half inch here or there really doesn't matter. 1mpg..? Doesn't matter. 10hp/tq? Doesn't matter. As for the S/7/CT6/A8 I like the looks of the CT6 second to the boring and lame looking S Class. There's still just something about it that screams "presence" over the others. CT6 is definitely the "sharpest"(no pun intended) of the bunch.

F, that looks bad ass. I suppose one could say its a modern take on an old idea. I personally love Cafe Racers. I love the look of them but man do they look uncomfortable! They just look "tough" to me and I love it. Like, "I don't give a $h! about anything but engine, wheels, and hooning. Let's get after it!" This happens to me as well. Because I am at work and there are restrictions to certain websites Drew said it was likely because of that. I know I can't go to Dropbox from my work computer but I use Photobucket just fine.

Chevrolet News:2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback To Start At $22,190*

^ do paint jobs like that last though? I can't see a paint job like that lasting too many harsh northern winters which GM would be warrantying against.. OEM quality, while some bash OEM tires and exhausts and such, has gone through A LOT of testing to be as durable as they are and are built to last. -
You are joking, right..? There is a break-in period and then there are accumulated miles.. Your Impala is not gaining power/torque as it surpasses 55k miles.. It's just the science of wearing materials and friction.

Those numbers really are shocking across the board. I know the S Class and 7 Series get flack for being bland and boring but I like them. I like how they are just big luxury barges w/ a little hidden performance in a body that nobody would guess could scoot. A sleeper for the 0.1% of the time you want to out run a Camaro SS at a stoplight and a super luxurious pamper-machine the other 99.9% of the time.

Triumph, always a good call! I know some people love the Triumph but their terrible reliability just kills the brand. They seem to be like Harley, living off an image while still producing garbage product. I never had any hiccups on mine. I know that's a small sample size but it was 2 years of ownership. My friend w/ a Daytona 600 hasn't had any reliability problems, just regular maintenance like oil, tires, coolant flush. He's put almsot 20,000 miles on his. Another friend had a little cluster issue where it would flicker when it was really really hot out(also a Daytona 600). I know this is a small sample size but that's about 30-35,000 miles on three bikes and the only real issue was an instrument cluster that would get finicky on HOT days, like 95*+. That is good to hear as I have been out of the cycle scene for a while so glad to hear they are getting better. Well, in all fairness I don't know about "present day" Triumphs as mine was an 06 and both my buddies' were 2004's. But yeah we never had bad luck w/ our. This is also a VERY different style bike to the cruisers.. I wouldn't doubt if they had reliability issues as most European things do tend to be less reliable than Japanese or American(modern Harleys aren't like they used to be where you NEEDED to keep a tool kit on you).

Yeah BMI doesn't put into consideration fat vs muscle. Strictly just a height:weight ratio of some sorts. Which to the newb is great. It will give you a VERY GENERAL guideline of where you stand... Weight lifters or athletes in general completely destroy the whole premise of BMI.

Those are some impressive numbers.. mostly that underrated 320hp one.. lol The 1/4 mile race it self is not relevant but accelerating to 100-110mph I could still see being very relevant. From a stop...? Not so much.. but I think more than anything it just puts a number to something other cars are measured by therefore making it comparable even if it will never actually be raced.

I just looked up my BMI(which is just a number, not a %). 26.0. I am considered "overweight" at 5'8" 171lbs. I should probably stop weight lifting and just be a lighter human...* That's exactly why BMI is misleading..
-
Sometimes I'll eat a can of chick peas for lunch. However, I don't like hummus at all. Good luck. BMI is terrifically misleading. People under guess my weight by 25-35 lbs regularly. I'm 'densely packed'. I could never get to a "normal" weight. Bmi is the worst way to judge how in shape or fit somebody is. Extremely misleading. I also didn't think it was a %. Just a number. Lol

(Love it) Hahaha WTF?!? Was that thing actually produced for some country?? If so, I feel bad that Infinity actually looked down on those people so poorly that they would offer them THIS. "What country do you hate?" "Hmmm... XYZ are all fck heads" "Give them THE Infinity."

Review of the 2016 Mazda CX-9 from an existing CX-9 owner
ccap41 replied to igozoom's topic in Reader Reviews
Nice review! I think Mazda's sales problem is attributed to a lack of a dealer network compared to those other brands mentioned. I know on my way to a Mazda dealership I probably pass 3 Ford/GM dealers and probably 1-2 Nissan/Toyota dealerships and where the Mazda dealership there are all of the above together anyway.
