2015 BMW M4 vs. 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS
Suaviloquent replied to surreal1272's topic in Industry News
I will say, I'm a person who not that fond of BMW as of their newest products since 2012. They have just fallen off a cliff in order to get sales. At the auto show, I could not understand the fuss over their vehicles. The only one I actually liked was the new 7 Series, which had a much improved interior. But also, I saw how the Camaro and Mustang were not getting that much attention. Maybe it's a Saturday thing - but the Vette Verts kept drawing ugggge crowds. Also Ford Gt and GT350. I think what's happened to BMW is that they make competent vehicles - but they've really lost the special sauce - the McDonald's Mighty Angus Sauce (damn good burger I must say)...and now they're like the Toyota of the luxury car. Atypical, not much evolution, lots of Green-washing like the Prius...aka i8... Yeah. And BMW will offer autonomous technologies in their M cars, and then they'll be the Ultimate Driverless Machines. I wonder how badly that will fall on its face in the minds of their core enthusiasts. You'll see a revolt, like the GOP race. Very much, yes, si senor... -
Alfa Romeo Delayed Giulia To Make Sure It Was 'Perfect' :Comments
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in Alfa Romeo
It's actually a hallmark of failed companies according to many of my textbooks - using cash cow divisions to fund the growth of other unprofitable divisions and mergers and acquisitions. Let's just hope that this company isn't that kind of statistic in the future. However, it's pretty clear that BMW has set the bar really low, if Cadillac can beat them, so can Alfa. Though they really will have a tough time selling over the others - their pricing strategy is even more unpalatable than the Germans, and it's because they want to be a low volume, niche player. All these niche brands will finally be undone when FCA US gets to use that same platform. Though I am hesitant at that idea, because it would mean that the 300 and Charger would be really downsized back to a midsize RWD car size. But it might be the only way to get 5+ mpg combined gains in FE.- 5 replies

2015 BMW M4 vs. 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS

For all intents and purposes you take off the sheet metal and strip the interiors of both cars and they would be luxury work in process vehicles. Well, with all that CF and CC Matrix brakes, the M4 does weight less than the Camaro. What's weird though is that Motor-trend has fully 180'd on their opinion of the sound of the M4. But that is what happens when you put a boosted 6 next to a V8 - one of the better American ones at that. -
In Canada the Focus hatch is the same price as the sedan. Canadians do not get shafted by the exchange rate, for many models. Probably because we only buy trucks and compacts. The midsize sedan does not exist here like down south.

I used to live in the mountains. Clean air, small towns, real food, real people. And then I left. And then all of that was torn away, goddamn urbanization, they took ouurr jerbs!!!

I think a turbocharged engine in a Miata this way comes. or not. Now, does it have the Mazda transmission hooked up to the Multiair?

Ram News: Marchionne Wants A Midsize Truck for Ram
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in Ram
I think aero is really hard to improve without changing the styling. For example... a totally unrelated thing. I read in a pretty in depth article a long time ago about the aerodynamics of a tour de france bike rider w/kit with the super aggressive road bikes compared to a normal person riding a less aggressive but similar weight CF bike with the same quality but less aero components. The less energy required is crazy. Also, small single digit increases of FE are actually large percentage gains in FE when you go from 19 to like 22 mpg. Doing that in a hybrid vehicle these days is hard. I think a wrangler on its own will improve to like 26 mpg hwy 18 city. Add a diesel, and I think it can reach just below 30 mpg. But remember, there's going to be a Jeep Wrangler Hybrid in 2020s... And like 12-16 mpg on its usual breakfast of rocks, ruts and roots... depending on incline. Also, the Jeep pickup is going to be based on the current outgoing generation. That's a bummer. And also very lucrative.- 60 replies

Hey look - we're the same!

So, are Skoda's like cheaper versions of the same VW, and the VW is like a Titanium Ford trim job and badge swap?
-
So it's a special order type deal. CM is lower, but you use up idle capacity based on projected home market (China) growth in sales that leaves some capacity leftover for exports. Yeah... when the fixed costs become relevant again, then GM should not be importing from China, they would indeed have more profit by selling the units back in China.

GMC News: 2017 GMC Acadia To Start At $29,995*

Yeah, from the autoshow, I was absolutely in awe how the Malibu interior - in terms of the the touch points that really matter - very well done - better than many luxury cars. Were it so easy for some luxury cars (I'm looking at you Mercedes CLA). Except the lower model Malibu with fabric dash top. I'm okay with that, but the brown really lifts up the interior, and the mass of black and gray - like other lower trim sedans aren't that eye-catching. The Volt's peanut butter scheme is very welcoming. Some Canadian dude drove it recently, and made me feel very jelly. The Cruze I sat in felt like a cheaper car, but it's probably going to remain very well equipped in terms of features and entry price, so I was satisfied... but not really engaged like a Mazda 3 or Golf interior or slightly pleased like in the Ford Focus. I don't think many people have seen the Cruze without the RS package on the Premier model. Without the RS package the Cruze looks much less substantial. I saw both close to each other, and really the transformation one trim package makes is crazy. Incidentally - the amount of displacement of soft touch material - as in how squishy the armrests and dash top are, are very similar in the Fusion and Malibu. I like the Malibu's door armrest more, but the Fusion's dash (below Platinum) is fully padded all from the globebox to the cowl, and I like the console armrest more too. I don't really care about the dash being nicer than the armrest, but anyways the Platinum was something way beyond my expectations for a midsize sedan at any price. -
Yes, no, maybe... You gotta follow the best of the worst rules right?

Very classy. Simple wheels - easy cleaning. So, did... dieselgate cause a deflategate in the price?

No! I think Volvo - because Frisky made the comment right after I did. My win! Mine!!! Minnneee!!!!

Subaru WRX. Subaru Forester 2.0T.... Volvo V60 T5? Volvo V60 T6? Golf GTi? Nissan Altima Coupe? I think I'm on a good hunch with it being a Volvo. Maybe it's not a new one.

I think the Buick Envision will do really well. It might actually take a few people out of an Encore, but that's what they want anyways. Moving up into the range when the time comes to return the dealer is exactly what the entry level luxury cars are supposed to do. They are the bait, get people hooked on them, then reel in the catch 12/24/48 mos later. We already have Drew sold on the Buick Envision afterall...

I dunno why they gave the looks win to the BMW. I mean, really both cars should be tied for styling, since they carry over much of the styling of their predecessors. -

Hey man, I want to be rooting for the Cruze, but it still has a par for the course interior, the top-end trim has the ratty headliner material that some Toyotas finally dicthed... I hope the driving experience makes up for it, but I suspect the driving standards of the people buying compact cars is fairly across the board even, and the only cars that could really make them feel like they're getting a European Golf or Astra or Focus or Mazda 3 or New Civic are those models all the same sold as their respective iterations here. I like how the standard Google Android Auto and Apple Carplay come standard with the 4g LTE modem - that is a very cool feature at any price. But I doubt people will want to pay money for the standard 2 GB data plan when the trial period expires - they'll just tether their phones for the wifi hotspot. Like the current Cruze is basically the most handsome previous gen Corolla you could buy. And that's a great achievement - and it had its own unique look. I still think the Cruze is quietly handsome, and I love that kind of styling. Very much like stealth wealth, which reminds me of more expensive Buicks and Lincolns. But the Cruze now looks like a rehash of multiple competing cars, for better or for worse, I think it'll sell like a lot, maybe a LOT more even, but I'll stick to my cards that the Malibu was the most impressive new Chevy I've experienced. -
The fuel price cycle hurts companies that make small cars. But I'd like to think that people should buy the vehicle they need first and can afford any day, within a reasonable price range of gas.
