I just think that if people can upload a specific soundtrack to be piped through the speakers then it has the same effect. Now it's just the value associations people have with how that sound is actually produced. Then there's the issue of say BMW failing to make their fake sound, well, sound good. That's just a failure in sound choice and delivery. Not in the means of producing the engine sound itself.

I would love to see and eletric Lincoln Zephyr with a chop. That would look and drive SICK. Though I've got nothing against the flathead V12....

I'll bat for Nature. - 2011 Japan Tsunami. All kinds of Japanese cars died due to nature. I think it was almost a Japanese car holocaust.

They had a Premium Plus S6, is that not above base? EDIT - The lack of sleep shows. I read the price comparo wrong.... The bloody S6 cost $7000!!!! more. But yeah the Cadillac was indeed fully loaded. Expect in MT's own records a an A6 3.0T Quattro puts comparable 0-60 and quarter mile numbers to the VSport as it is.. I mean if they can forgo the AWD distinction, I think its fair to override it again. Cadillac needs to put AWD on VSport, and they're going to. It's just a matter of when. The LF4 does have the low-interia turbochargers though.

I really think the Audi lost not because it was beaten outright by the Cadillac - it was the comfiest and fastest in a straight line. Age didn't get it either. Price though doesn't help. It was just physics. The engine sits out in front of axle, and that hasn't changed in while. So it's not okay to pretend Audi has been always about beating BMW or any other handling benchmark. Steering fell short - but only because Lexus and Cadillac have finally meaningfully exceeded them. I think Quattro does help, but you can't kit an Audi any other way at that price, so you have to factor that in too. And AWD saps some steering feel because you can't use power oversteer. So I think digging the Audi for AWD is actually a little unfair on the car because the configuration has certain benefits and drawbacks for criteria set for vehicle dynamics. And some folks said getting a 3.0T would have been even more comparable to the Cadillac. Again, nice win - a true showing of longevity, but the Audi is 3 years older than the Cadillac, and like the E Class is probably also going to be replaced. And I still think they'll still have a physics disadvantage. The price was in line with the Cadillac being that, and I must add it had subjectively the most liked interior and interior tech interfaces. I almost feel that the Lexus disappointed the most, because it lacks adjustable dampening, a must at that price, and a must for any top-end performance model in that segment.

http://www.motortrend.com/news/comparison-audi-s6-4-0t-quattro-vs-cadillac-cts-v-sport-vs-lexus-gs-f/ To sum up, the Cadillac won very well, and it stood the test of time. Mainly, it was about delivering a solid blend of luxury and performance. And the Cadillac did it all, at a great price. I think that's what is great about the win. The Merecedes E Class was excluded because it's due to be replaced and the 5 Series didn't represent Europe as well as the A6. I think it shows maturity with design, that it can hold up after a few years pass by and the competitors try to catch up. A great win for the home team!

The only issue is that the next-gen Odyssey debuts this year, and supposedly it'll either hit or exceed 30 mpg on the highway. That's incredible, and even 28 mpg Hwy on these things is crazy.

Yeah, they basically have lost 25% of sales. And many of these places are leveraged through the wazooo. And their whole marketing stance of "affordable German engineering" is tossed out the window. Not the least of which when you buy competing Chevys, Buicks and Fords, heck even Hyundais tuned in Germany Cheatineering is not engineering.

I think it could easily spank a dank a CLA250 or BMW 1 Series. Like really, just use the smaller sausage rule to make a Volvo S90/V90 baby. I'm okay with that!! Same car, different length, lower price. Do what the plane makers do. Same sausage, different length...

The non-press photos and the Miata in person look so nice. Man... whenever I'm around Mazda vehicle these days I think of top trimmed Fords and Buicks and I wonder, in terms of style, Mazda is just off the charts. I think the Buick Cascada, like the Fiat should have been based on a Mazda. That would have been a fitting RWD, affordable, Buick Roadster. Even Ed Welburn and his disciple who works for Bentley love Mazda design.

Yeah that's true. A made in Japan sedan with an American badge!!! Awwww yeah, that's how much an American brand has declined under ...well Marchionne is Canadian... (so yeah, Canada is involved)....an Italian parent. What's interesting is the guy that Marchionne replaced is Bob Nardelli, and he's a questionable character too given...

It's pretty good product, I'd not get the 2.0T, I think the 3.3 is a must, but I wish they wouldn't force you to get a 3rd row to get the engine. I think many publications have iterated that the interior is very good for the class, and finally getting in one myself, I can attest to that.

I heard that Ford and Hyundai were also target "leads" to be wooed. Hmmm... Somehow I do not see this really helping the company. I mean I guess you'd be buying basically a Mazda with a Chrysler badge, which means you are getting a Mazda, but I would think the other guys would hold back some in reserves unless they get some real big bucks...

BMW News: BMW Sees A New Future With Driverless Vehicles
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in BMW
I think it's just that part of it is that few people in the new generation buy vehicles to actually drive them. They still want luxury and style, the most they can get for the dollar, but spirited driving?! Hell, no, it's viewed as chore. My take - who wouldn't want to absolve all responsibility for driving and instead binge on Netflix with their 5G LTE WIFI while their Faraway Future vapordream hyperlooper Camcorder goes from supercharger to supercharger all the way across America charging itself and then arriving at their destination for only the eject function to jettison them out the airlock while the car automatically goes to the next rider sharer.- 18 replies

Alfa Romeo Delayed Giulia To Make Sure It Was 'Perfect' :Comments
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in Alfa Romeo
Well, they just have to beat BMW in performance, and also be given pity points for lack of back seat space because it's Italian, but of course when it's ripped to shreds by a Cadillac then the same excuse won't hold. And the images of the Interior, while nice, looks nothing exciting over a Mercedes C300. And then the XE has also beaten the 3 Series in comparison. The Quadrifoglio looks pretty knarly. But again, is anyone buying an M or AMG going to go to them? Not really. Even V now has a pedigree and a following. Ditto for RS Quattro... It has to make its own white space - aka mainstream performance luxury with Italian flavour. And it seems like a pretty long-term commitment, given they wanted 500,000 sales by 2020...or never, because it might just fail, spectacularly at that.- 5 replies

Now I'm really sure he also wanted to merge so he could shove Voltec into a Ferrari, and then claim it's the most advanced hybrid tech in the world. Except now in a Ferrari.

GMC News: 2017 GMC Acadia To Start At $29,995*
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in GMC Trucks
Yeah, I have seen not many Acadias as fleet vehicles of any kind. Maybe some for actually news reporters, and some for the weather dudes, and some for Police. Interesting though is that I thinks that GMC should get any kind of SUV electrification first, before Chevy. I think the GMC customer can palate and increase in price more tha Chevy, So, perhaps a 2.0T with Voltec battery, in the Acadia as a 5 seat version would be very interesting. I think it could sell really well. Or maybe I'm just being subsumed into the ELR mentality. Just because something sounds great in concept and on paper, doesn't mean it'll pan out. Ah well... Luigi. -
I know the feeling Balth. I've gutted all kinds of bicycles, high-eng low-end, from the 40s (yeah, those Sturmey Archer Equipped bikes are just a treat) to some of the best of today...and you see how there's just so little metal. They have the material right up to a limit, and there's no unstressed material, which reduces weight, but nothing is forgiving, or can accept lack of maintenance. I have a bottom Bracket on my '94 Giant that has seen maybe 40,000 kms by now. I pulled it apart last year, saw how the bearings were like floating in their retainer, you could with minimal force pluck them right out, and the spindle is so smooth over years of abusive riding. In fact, I've been told that the only way such a BB can fail if it's maintained is that the spindle will eventually crack by the float that exists once both the spindle and bearings wear down. Or the bearings will munch through the retainer, or the cup will crack, get sucked in and grenade the BB parts and require a new BB. 40,000 km's to go!!
