Chrysler News: FCA Pooling Fleet with Tesla in EU for Emissions Requirements
ykX replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Chrysler
LOL Sometimes @dfelt you are something. What do you mean why would you want a Ferrari? As opposing to what, Tesla, Bolt? Noisy? Ferrari engines have one of the most beautiful sounds in the industry. Anyway, most this type of cars get to be driven very little to make a difference, Probably Fiats and Jeeps are the majority of FCA vehicles in Europe, and I doubt they have higher emissions than the rest of European manufacturers. It just the standards are strict and getting stricter so it makes sense financially to buy credits from Tesla, than to pay fines.- 19 replies

Actually, I just returned from vacation in Paris and we took few Uber rides there. One of them was in VW Passat and another one was in Peugeot 408. I would take 408 over Passat in a heartbeat, interior was much nicer and roomier and it rode nicer. The crossover looked nice as well.

Actually, I think autocross is very attainable for the average enthusiast, I would say much more than drag racing. Don't really need to modify a car to be fast like in drag racing. In regards to Englishtown Raceway, I actually live pretty close and from what I heard there were complains from people who live in the area in regards to noise. My higher level boss used to race there and that is what he said too. This whole area gets more and more built in, I think the drag racing is gone from there for good. They had autocross and some track days too but not sure if that is gone too.

How often do you change your oil?
ykX replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Product Questions and Reviews
We were not talking about general public, so don't change the subject. A lot of guys at my work are more than capable of doing such work, but I work with engineers and technicians. There is nothing complicated about changing brake pads. Rotors, I have read conflicting reports, it seems cutting rotors doesn't really help with warping and residue, and from my experience cutting rotors extend their life only for a short period of time and it seems to me just a waste of time and money. I use high quality rotors, but I just replace them, when they go bad. And what toxic waste you are talking about? Pads as far as I know are not toxic and don't require any special disposal, rotors are just steel, and oil is accepted for free for recycling in Walmart or different auto shops. Actually I think winter tires are great and much better than all-seasons. I think all northern states should require from people to have winter tires. Many people want AWD vehicles without realizing that proper winter tires will be much more beneficial for winter driving. -

Not only dealers often do sloppy job ( I had few occasions) but also they significantly overcharge on everything. When my wife's car was under warranty and I took it to a service they said that it needs new rear brake pads. The quote to replace JUST rear pads was $300. I bought higher quality pads than OEM for $40 and it took me 40 minutes for the whole job. Now please, tell me again why I should go to a dealer. -
Highly recommend to watch "Formula 1" series on Netflix if you have it. I have never been a huge fan of Formula 1 but it is fascinating to see what is going on behind the curtain and the series is very well made.

Toyota News: Next Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ in Development

My point is that it is a pretty good indication of these cars' handling capability. What other cars in that price range can do as good? -

@Frisky Dingo And yet at autocross events Miata and GT86/BRZ seem to be in the majority as best suited where good handling is concerned. It seems the spread in the best times of capable drivers at autocross is between Porsche/Corvette and Miata/ FRS/BRZ. -
How often do you change your oil?
ykX replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Product Questions and Reviews
From my personal experience I trust dealership no more than I trust a private shop, actually way less. Most guys at the dealership that do basic jobs like oil change are kids without any experience, because dealers pay almost nothing to most of their mechanics. They usually have 1-2 experienced guys for serious jobs and everybody else is disposable cheap labor. Had number of problems when I used dealers them doing a lousy job. The only good thing about going to a dealer is that if they screw up, they usually liable to fix it, but that can be a struggle as well. Personally, try to avoid them if I can, would rather do work myself if it is something basic like oil or brakes, or go to a private trusted mechanic if it is something more serious. -
How often do you change your oil?

I change oil myself on both of our cars. In my G37S I used to change every 7.5k miles but after doing a test on the used oil which recommended that I can go up to 10k, so that is what I started doing. My commute is long and mostly highway so makes sense. Currently at almost 178k miles and chugging along happily. My wife's MDX I was doing services at a dealer when it was still under warranty but now I change every 8-9k miles, when indicator shows it is time. I use Mobil 1 synthetic and Purolator filter for both. -

Great they doing a new one. We need an affordable sports car among the sea of boring SUVs. I hope they make it substantially better while keeping relatively low price. -
Congratulations, very nice car. Let us know how it drives.

I can say one thing, I am currently looking for a new family crossover for my wife we will be buying this year, And I KNOW my wife will not be fiddling with any settings, whatever they might be. To me personally, Acura's or Subaru's systems are preferable. They help in emergency, they work in bad weather and they help in acceleration, they work automatically and they have been proved to work well. As a car enthusiast I like choices but honestly, if I buy AWD car or crossover, I would like the awd system to be ON all the time. If I would be buying a real off-road vehicle, than I would like it to have choice of specific settings for 4WD system for me to select depending on the terrain and condition. Just my personal preference and opinion of course.

You picked one line from the whole sentence where I put 4 more LEGITIMATE reasons to have AWD on all the time. The ONLY reason GM turns AWD off on their crossovers is to get extra 1 mpg in their fuel efficiency rating, so don't give me that bull about choices and uneducated lazy customers. But whatever, I will not be arguing with you because you will just come up with any excuse to justify anything GM does. It seems most people here actually do see reason and logic.
-
I would rather to have smart AWD system ALL the time than to save extra 1mpg. It will be there when you have to do emergency maneuver, it will be there when weather changes, it will be there when you want to kick it at stop light. Most people will not even know how to use it when they need it. I am ok when you have these modes on a real off road vehicles, but not on these crossovers. Just MPO.

Personally, I think the RS should have been more than it is for the price point. In RS trim it looks great but for the price I think it needs to be higher performance than being just a warmed up crossover. The lower trims look like they came from rental lots. I wish GM good luck with it but for example a three row MDX that is bigger, has larger and nicer interior is at least just as fast as RS and handles at least as good (compare the numbers). It has a much better AWD system too, and starts at $44k.

I think at this point it is true for both platforms. Apple adding stupid emojis and VR emojis and some other crap teenagers can entertain themselves for another 15 minutes. I think they all pretty much running out of useful ideas. I agree, I just want my phone/internet browser/music/navigation/camera work without glitches.

Just got my Pixel 3 XL a week ago. So far loving it. Not as sexy as new Samsungs, but clear of all the extra junk and camera is awesome. I finally can take great pictures of my kids playing sports.

Absolutely agree. My wife and I recently drive tested few crossovers for her and there is a huge difference in feel between turbo fours and V6s.

LOL, "coupe style blandness". We are in the middle of the sea of vanilla crossovers, they are ALL family appliances. Any coupe or sedan with some style will really stand out. Whatever your preference of course, just don't pretend that crossovers are exciting unless you get a 100k pumped up Grand Cherokee or X5 or Porsche.
