DRIVEN: 2018 Buick Enclave Essence AWD (used vehicle review)
ykX replied to regfootball's topic in Reader Reviews
Nice review, thank you. We were considering it for my wife but it is just too big for our needs, my wife wants something smaller and nimbler. Otherwise I like it a lot. -
@balthazarCongrats, iPhone 8 is a good phone, hope it lasts you. I bet few weeks from now you will wonder how you lived without a smartphone until now

Industry News: Electrics Soar In EU while Diesel Fades
ykX replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Industry News
EVs are coming like it or not. It will take some time until they are really common, but I see more and more electric vehicles on the road in US and Europe and more and more manufacturers starting to work on EVs extensively. As soon as more EV will be available on the market and as soon as prices will come down to a more affordable level the market will explode. The new generation of young people that used to plug in and charge their smartphones, tablets and laptops will embrace it quickly and without hesitation. They feel more familiar with charging their gadgets than dealing with smelly gas, oil and grease. The new generation is more eco conscious as well which makes electrics more attractive to them. EVs require less maintenance as well which a lot of people will love.- 46 replies

Google Maps Now Shows EV Charger Availability
ykX replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
My commute is almost 100 miles per day plus some occasional errands in the evening, and still most of EVs would work for me just fine. And if we take a very long weekend or vacation trip we could always take my wife's car. So in general EV will work for me even with my long commute, it is just I don't think it will be cost effective at the moment buying EV vehicle and installing charging station at my home.- 26 replies

Computer and hardware purchase question - help
ykX replied to trinacriabob's topic in Electronics and Technology
I think if you go with previous generation of Pixel or Samsung, it will be cost effective and still you will get a very good phone. Also, I had previously Moto X4 which is inexpensive, it was a good phone, just the camera was not what I wanted. I think apps support depends on the developer, not really on Android or Google, so it depends. The apps I am using were working fine on both previous generation of Android and on the latest as well. -
Computer and hardware purchase question - help

Yes, as I said before I got mine few months ago and I love it so far. Low light pictures and action photos of my kids come out great as well. -

Just recently took these with my Pixel 3XL. Pixel consistently beat everyone else camera until recently. The main reason i got it in the first place. -
At the moment only 17% of total energy produced is from renewable sources (including hydro). I doubt if suddenly a high percentage of people will switch to EVs it will cover the demand. How about that part: According to the group's findings, mining and processing the lithium, cobalt and manganese necessary to make a battery pack for a Tesla Model 3 generates up to 15 tons of CO2 emissions. Given a vehicle lifespan of 10 years at 15,000km per year, that averages out to 98 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

"Electric vehicles have long been hailed as a cleaner alternative to gas- and diesel-powered vehicles, but a group of German scientists claim EVs are actually worse for the environment than their fossil fuel-burning counterparts. In their study, titled, "Electric Vehicles are not a Panacea for Climate Change,” German scientists Christoph Buchal, Hans-Dieter Karl and Hans-Werner Sinn claim that electric vehicles are responsible for 11-28 percent more CO2 emissions than their diesel-powered counterparts. The scientists' findings are based on the entire EV production process, as well as Germany's current energy mix." LeftLaneNews

I think even majority of people who buy Grand Cherokee never take them off road. My friend just got '18 GC High Altitude, I doubt he will ever take his new precious toy off road in danger of damaging it. Let alone people who are buying $100k SUV's to drive their kids to school.

I can equally find pictures of GL off roading. Doesn't mean many people take either Escalade or GL actually off roading
-
He is going to tell you that he takes his 15 years old Escalade off road all the time and sees plenty of Escalade enthusiasts off road

I think looks wise it is a huge step back from the current one. Exterior and interior. I think while RAV4 was a big step forward at least in how it looks this is a step backwards from the current one.

Visually I like Cadillac's interiors much more, personally. Quality wise I don't know, hopefully new ones will be on par with Germans. I like front and back of the car but not crazy about the profile. Hopefully it will be very good. In any case it will be tough sell in today's market of crossovers.

To be fair 2010 Mustang GT had 315hp and 325 lb-ft, weighted about 3500-3600lbs This one will have 330 hp and 350 lb-ft and probably will weight around the same. As I said I would rather have the V8 as well but this new turbo-four will smoke a V8 from less than a ten years ago in a straight and most definitely on a track.
-
This will be great for autocross, but I still want the GT with the V8. I really like these wheels though.

Now I really need to get one! I wish that "hand built engine" would have more power than the standard TLX. It looks nice but without any performance upgrades it is just a poser package.

Yes, I had Motorola before and switched to Pixel only because of the camera. I tried iPhone for six month, hated it. But I understand why people like it, my wife and a lot of friends use iPhones.

Yes, I got my Pixel when it was $300 off, plus Costco supposed to send me $30 gift card to offset Verizon activation fee.

Yes, I got my Pixel 3XL about month and a half ago and so far have been pretty happy with it. It doesn't look as sexy as Samsungs but it is pure Android without any additional things manufacturers tend to cram and the camera is phenomenal (which for me was a main reason to get it). I just hope it lasts for me. Latest Samsung phones seem really good though, great hardware and looks. I don't think the foldable ohone is actually worth the money or trouble, maybe in a few generations, when they work out the issues.

The big check in April might help economy, but I think the goal for a financially smart person has to be to end up as close to zero as possible: not to own anything to the government and not to get a big refund either. A big refund means that you are overpaying your taxes during the year.

Personal opinion is personal, but even if you read Corvette forums, a lot of owners themselves dislike the Vette engine sound.- 19 replies
