  1. Something I have always wondered about the Echo...if you hit one, do you hear it twice???
  2. You know what - this pisses me off to no end. Toyota has bought the rights to EVERY F^%$ing event and sport in the US and it further ingratiates itself to the American Public. I was enjoying the incredibly cheesy rebirth of American Gladiators the other day, only to find that it is being sponsored by Toyota and it's all new Saquoia. Ruined the show for me. Fast forward to last night - watching Pearl Harbor (nothing else on, and I have a crush on Kate Beckinsale) and what company was allowed to advertise between scenes of Americans getting blown away by Japanese planes? Toyota. ( At least it was not Mitsubishi) Toyota now sponsors EVERY form of racing and has elbowed it's way into Nascar with huge $$$ outlays. They have BOUGHT the market now. They own it. Toyota is now being offered up as American as any brand out there. AND IT SUCKS! Now they own Bass Fishing and Bass Pro Shops...guess Bass Pro Shops does not need my money any more either. Do they take Yen at the check out counters now?
  3. I like the progression of the styling - the interior is very Ford F-150 without the round vents...same shifter handle as the Ford? The back doors look huge, and the inovative Ram BOX is probably the best idea I have seen on a truck since the tailgate step integrated in the Ford tailgate. It's bold and a step in the correct direction if you ask me. And the exhaust cut outs are hot. I was perusing thier site to get some details on the drivetrains...the Hemi is advertising better mileage...they had nowhere to go but UP. Hell our 4.7 Commander does not even come close to it's EPA or dealer spouted numbers. My inlaws have a Hemi Dodge full-sized that he does not drive due to the horrid mileage that the thing gets! Nice job Dodge. Looks really good. Let's hope it delivers.
  4. QUOTE(66Stang @ Jan 12 2008, 04:24 PM) The Tundra is not the total POS that some people make it out to be, but the point is that GM and Ford still build better trucks than Toyota and Nissan. Chris I have been thinking about this for a few weeks now, and Chris's comments brought it to a head. The Tundra is not as bad as a lot of us have labeled it. Yeah, it has it's faults - ugly and poorly constructed - but it does do something that needed to be done in the full sized truck segment - it does shake things up. No longer will truck designers be stuck with 90 degree angles in the design room. Back seats no longer need to be uncomfortable church pews and in a fixed position. Interiors do not need to be designed with Legos and Mega Blocks. (Kudos for Toyota for being different...even if it is distasteful) (The GMT-900's interiors in the LTZ are very attractive out of the Tahoe/Denali and break the Truck only dash mold as well) Truck makers in the Big 3 will need to pay attention to the 75,000 customers that they lost to the Tundra or they will loose more market share. Toyota will not rest on thier mistakes with the Tundra and they will surely find a way to find suppliers that will give them the parts they need to keep the truck moving forward...(had to say that.) Toyota will fix these problems and probably get stronger from all of this. GM and especially Ford and Dodge had better get off of the high horse and take a look at the GOOD points of the Tundra or they will loose more and more shares of the full sized market. And the Toyota's shortcomings had better be a lesson to them all that the world is watching every manufacturer and it only takes a few minutes for word of faulty tailgates, breaking driveshafts, shakey beds, bad location of tow hooks, stupidity of the ESC system shutting off in 4WD. poor mileage, broken cams...it was on the web faster that Toyota could smooth it over with thier wonderful PR. The world is watching this truck and will watch how the rest of the guys respond. I still wouldn't be caught dead in one :AH-HA_wink:
  5. TRD - Toyota RECALL development Seriously, rename the Tundra the Recall and save everyone a lot of work, as it would be just living up to it's name!
  6. All good points to be sure. But add the two more seats, auto paddle shift, paint it black with a black out grill and call me Vader. I want one. The ZR-1 SHOULD be the more technological car - it is GM's Flagship. I wll accept the 'stripped down' Caddy for my needs. Seeing my family's eyes peeled back as I launch hard off of a stop light and keep 'em pinned in the seats as long as I want to will be worth it. And I am a Vette guy. This car makes more sense as it is more practical. Plus, I am really still not too hot on the hood on the ZR-1.
  7. That is a steal!!! I told that to my dad ( I was guessing around there ) and he said "NO WAY! That Car will be above $70k for sure." Almost ZR-1 performance and you can scare the living hell out of three of your friends instead of just one!!!!
  8. I sent a shot of the exterior over to my dad and he actually just met me in the hall and yelled at me to " NEVER SEND PHOTOS LIKE THAT TO HIM AGAIN!!" - then he asked if it will be available with an Auto and if it was a NS or LSA motor. Then sheepishly asked if there was a shot of the interior. He stared at the cockpit for about 5 minutes over my shoulder, then calmly asked when it will be DELIVERED to our shop. I guess he liked it! are there any rumors of pricing yet?
  9. How many people here think about ESC? Probably none of us, right? This morning my Tahoe saved my butt big time thanks to it's ESC - Much as you tried to go one way and the car decided to go the other, I turned right in a sweeping turn without thinking about the black ice I was on. Every light on the dash went off and then I felt the Tahoe self correct. Totally caught me off guard, as the rest of the road had seemed dry and I had it in two wheel drive...but when I hit that ice, she started to go quickly and I was in no position to correct it myself ( I am ashamed to say ) No drama or hitting of anything (if I would have been in the 2006 Sierra in 2wd, I would have hit the ditch sideways at about 35 and rolled it!) Sorry to hear about your Buick. Hope it can be saved. The good news is that you are o.k.. Cars can be replaced (for the most part) people cannot.
  10. I received permission to share this e-mail with all of you regarding the de-camo-ization of the New Camaro mules: Good morning, Camaro Comrades and Firebird Friends! As most of you know, the past couple of weeks has seen several unauthorized photos of the Camaro -- both interior and exterior -- leaked to the public. Frankly, they've caught us by surprise. Unauthorized photos are, invariably, taken quickly without much thought - and as a result -- are not very flattering. Since then, our Vice Chairman, Bob Lutz has ordered that we remove all the cammo off of the mules and early builds...and in fact our General Manager -- Ed Peper is encouraging you to actively look for Camaros on the road and to take pics of them.....and that's a first at least in my memory! Since then, we've revealed one picture of a white mule on the track in Australia. The overwhelming response to these photos has been positive -- altho. the first couple of days after each picture hits the net -- we have some 'rough spots' -- in terms of comments and behavior. That is probably not a bad thing because -- in most cases (not all) people are passionate about this car............ I'd like you to think about something as pictures continue to flood the internet............ There are a lot of GM's finest -- in fact the industry's finest -- working on this car. We want this to be the best Camaro ever -- --in terms of straight out performance-- --in terms of ride and handling for every-day use -- --in terms of handing on a road course -- (some may tend to forget that the late 4th Gen cars will STILL shame most of what's on the road today......regardless of price...) -- and we want it to be the best in terms of interior comfort and quietness......... We want this Camaro to be a car you WANT to drive everyday -- no matter where you're going -- no matter what the traffic conditions are.... We want it to put a smile on your face everytime you open the door and get in and fire up the engine. BUT -- we are concentrating on something else as well.... PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP....... Yes -- PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP.... We want you to go out and climb into one of these new Camaros -- we want you to fire up the engine -- we really wish we could SEE the look on your face as you floor the accelerator for the first time (and DON'T forget to PUT THAT SEATBELT ON........) .......we want you to be so blown away by this new Camaro that you can't sign the papers fast enough! ......we want to watch as you park it somewhere and turn around - time and time again -- as you walk away from it - with that sense of pride that says: "Yup -- THAT CAMARO IS ALL MINE! -- beware, all of you who drive something so inferior!!!" We want you to enjoy the respect this car will bring to those of you who take it to the track... We want you to enjoy the fellowship that Camaro brings to you thru Camaro Clubs and Internet sites......... We want people who may not even KNOW what a Camaro is -- to take one look -- and say "OMG -- what is that and where do I sign?" We take the creation of an all-new Camaro very seriously. VERY seriously. Most of us were around to watch in mourning as the 4th Gen 'rode off into the sunset.' Believe me -- you don't know what pain that was for most of us -- you don't know the sleepless nights -- and painful days. Yes -- it was very much like losing a child to some of us. On the other hand - many of you DO know the pain -- because you experienced it with us...... So - just understand, as you look at pictures of the test mules -- that we know there's a high expectation -- and we intend to meet those expectations. We have a lot at stake here -- this is our livelihood -- and it's our PASSION............ Yup -- not everyone will like the console gages -- but for each person who doesn't like 'em, I -think we'll have at least one -- probably a lot more -- that think they're the 'cat's jammies." Perhaps another won't like the back-up lamps -- and another may not like the interior fabric....but we think that overall -- this Camaro is gonna BLOW YOU AWAY................. So - enjoy the pics -- keep the civilized discussion going -- but for those who have some misgivings -- I simply ask you to please wait to draw final conclusions until after you've touched and felt a new Camaro in person. I hope to see you in Indianapolis on September 19-21, 2008! Scott
  11. Where did the gas cap go? On the concept it was atop the left rear fender. Most GM's have the fuel filler on the left rear fender. I see no fuel filler on the driver's side of the car. On the concept it was the stylized race style cap...I see nothing of the sort on this car. I know it is trivial, but it is a worthwhile question. Next: On the first car on the transport, in the opening shot under the camo at the front...why do the headlights look different than the Camaro? Why is the grill cover split down the middle. All that to cover a bowtie?
  12. the keys are in the ignition of the camaro...be right there!
  13. Don't be telling me I am a hater - I like the new Mustangs, have great memories of my sister's Mustang II, and have always enjoyed the '69 and 70 mustangs. Your Uncle's car sounds great. And a FOOSE on top of it! HOW SWEEET! I met him two years ago at his shop - he is very generous with his time (what little he has) and will sign anything you put in front of him. If you are ever in Huntington Beach California, go see his shop and see what little space he has to turn out the work he does. There is a ton to look at in the shop, but it is only open from 12-1, so get there early. Your family is quite lucky to have such a car in the fleet! How 'bout some photos of you driving the beast?
  14. Bullets, booze and all of the other ingredients for murder are taxed to death up there! Besides, you only have good weather for killing like a quarter of the time that we do. This story did sicken me. I hope there is justice to that bastard. Nobody deserves to die like that - ever. My heart goes out to that family.
  15. Self cancelling ESC when 4 x 4 is engaged...no other truck I know of has that. - also included are: Bad cams, transmissions, brakes, driveshafts, tailgates and a bed that will make a martini shaker blush. So there!
  16. No...I am.
  17. what about the one where the guy drops a steel beam on a really nice GMC/Chevy crew cab? That one pissed me off. Time for GM to run an ad showing how inferior the Jap cars are. Show the tailgates of a tundra bending in half when a lawn tractor is attempted to be loaded...that would be a start!
  18. I love this car and speak with the fbodfather by e-mail quite often. I have my name on the list for two of these already. With that said, something in the Straightline posts made me uneasy - "a couple Mustangs as well, so GM obviously knows what market niche it needs to hit..." WRONG WRONG! WRONG!!!! Leave the F-ing rustang in the dust and go head to head against the BMW 3-er, the Infiniti G35 - The car has been missing in the US market since 2002 - this is GM's chance to take the Camaro into another market and move upscale. Targeting the Mustang is NOT what we need. We need a car that can stand on it's own two feet and leave the gold chain image behind.
  19. move off the golf course...just a hint. :AH-HA_wink:
  20. I am beside myself picturing that mirror spinning in it's trajectory toward the Camry hood...classic moment!!!! I bet it was in super slow-mo when it happened! Hillarious!
  21. http://www.cqmag.com/ The whine from the supercharger and that exhaust note are so unbelievable! I have to go take a cold shower!!!
  22. The drive home made it all better! It was snowing all afternoon, so the roads were quite slick tonight. Yes, we still had an overage of Toyotas - but one of them was STUFFED into the side of a Corolla that had just spun on the snow...which was followed by a plethora of other Japanese cars all finding out what the term 'fender bender' means. Good news was that nobody looked to be hurt as it was all pretty low-ish speed. Yeah, there were a couple of American cars in there, but it does the heart good to see a Tacoma PUNTING a Corolla into the guardrail! I smiled as I watched them ping-ponging off each other in the snow. Sadly, there was the same GP from this morning in the median, stuck in the snow. Bonehead move of the night was the guy in the 2002 Camaro that decided to cross the no-mans land between the highway and the offramp THROUGH the 4+ inches of snow. He decided to go BACK on the highway accross a bit of road that no Camaro should be on. He proceeded to do four complete left to right to left to right to left to right - POLE! POLE! POLE! Left right left tank slappers (missed the light pole by about 8-inches) and got it straight again - never once did he let off the gas!!! Rooster tailed all the way through it! Absolutely the bonehead move of the night!
  23. as I logged in Iwas thinking about how there would be nothing new to look at...WRONG! Sexy car...and by the looks of things there is nothing unnecessary on the car - I lioke pretty much all that I see.
  24. Yeah, I have seen that before...the Honda 1.8 is the small block of the kids these days. I don't understand the whole fart pipe coffee can exhaust or the crappy cars- but to each his own! The saddest thing I saw was back about 13 years ago (maybe more) when Hot Rod went to a Chevron crusher lot and bought from the original owner before the oil company could a 1967 Camaro 6 Cylinder that the guy was going to crush because his kid did not want the car - that he wanted a Honda!!! The guy was going to destroy a 67 that was in decent shape because his kid did not want it. Thankfully, it was saved and is now known as the Hot Rod Crusher Camaro. http://www.sleeperbu.com/crusher.html Bought it for $700!!!
  25. So I am tooling to work in my Tahoe and suddenly realized a startling fact - out of the 10 cars that were around me on a three lane highway - me and a Pontiac GP were the lone GM cars!!! 2 out of 10! Toyotas were everywhere - including a new white Turdra Doublecab! This is the heartland, and for this many Toyota's on the road in this area it just makes me sad. It doesn't help that the big GM dealers in this area are owned by the same company and they are all A-holes to deal with...but I hate to see this many Japanese cars here in what was a GM stronghold. Anyone else out there having the same problem?
