LA Auto Show: 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Revealed: Comments
balthazar replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in LA Auto Show
Some angles it looks pretty nice & very contemporary, but others show it's a major demotion relative to the Silverado. Overall it should do very well, me thinks. -
Prius Cabrio concept from Tokyo Motor Show
balthazar replied to Robert Hall's topic in Japan Mobility Show / Tokyo Auto Salon
Yeah- I can see legless grocery bags, but nothing live back there. I assume there's no trunk space if the roof is back there. So in other words, it's the world's least sporty 2-seater. -

LA Auto Show: 2015 Kia K900 (No, It's Not An Appliance): Comments
balthazar replied to William Maley's topic in LA Auto Show
Do you actually think there's any difference between 'K900' and 'S350' ?? -
What's the story with this fella? '72 Cutlass S by VIN (442 was option again beginning in '71), this is not a factory 442 (again by VIN). Originally a 350 2bbl car, everything on it seems to be correct for a 442 (tho it's not done as a restoration). Built 455, 4-spd, I think it has 4.10 gears. For sale. The car you guys started with sure looks pretty clean, always a bonus with a re-do. Turned out great.

The way John Willys pronounced his name doesn't guarantee how the brand name was to be pronounced, necessarily. Apparently, the factory used both versions officially. In poking around the web, expressed opinion seems to run about 3:2 or better on 'will-eez' vs. 'willis'.
-
Nope, that's a real special edition Wrangler that just recently debuted. Neat...so is it a 'Willis' or a 'Willies' ? (I've pronounced it as 'Willies' but it's apparently 'WIllis') I NEVER in my life ever heard it pronounced 'willis' until I saw it so on 'Fast & Loud', and I must've heard 100 car people speak it 'willies' prior to that. My mind is officially boggled if an authoritative sources states unequivocally that it is 'willis'. Vintage factory-produced film says it 'willies'.

LA Auto Show: The 2014 MINI Cooper Grows: Comments
balthazar replied to William Maley's topic in LA Auto Show
Well, the original lasted 41 years. Not sure where you get 18 years..the '14 is the 3rd redo since '01 (13 years). Some sort of number juxtaposition: I did mean 13 years. But the so-called "re-do"s didn't change the appearance except for minor details- so that's inconsequential in a discussion of its design. Mazda "re-did" the miata and it's a near clone of the original, I don't see that as advancing/changing the look their, either. -
First off, tho cool looking, I'm pretty sure that tailgate is NOT going to be comfortable to lean against. That aside, you could go either way on the seat bottom (wood or metal). I wonder how it would look with an expanded metal over the tailgate, something about 75% open. If that would work, you could do a 2nd tailgate for the bottom, the same way (this would NOT be a light weight bench!). Welding the frame up would be a cinch. I do like the lamp in the link.

GM will offer Internet Access in 2015 models
balthazar replied to riviera74's topic in General Motors
Well no; there are numerous other avenues to use the internet besides the phone. Just because one doesn't have a smart fone doesn't at all mean they don't use the 'net. I for one would rather be in a house/building using the net rather than my car, but the option for those who want it is nice... just not sure what quantity that is. We really have no info there. Still... might be more than those who prefer -say- a crinkly fabric roof that folds down. -
Mercedes Benz was going to rebadge the Nissan Titan and Frontier..

More evidence of Daimler's insatiable groping for quick sales. -
^ They really do seem to be legitimately struggling for direction (tho BMW is a bit more grounded than MB). BMW is pulling a 'toyota' in currently combining 3-series & 4-series models as one sales total (IE: camry & solara). One would think they'd sooner combine the platform mates 5 & 7 before the former. I had thought I read more than once that BMW was splitting the 3 along door count, but via their current website, that doesn't seem to be the case. I guess the general assumption is it'll get straightened out eventually. Or maybe its closer to the truth than no one really cares.

GM will offer Internet Access in 2015 models
balthazar replied to riviera74's topic in General Motors
Hard to imagine for those with, but there is still a large quantity of people without smart phones out there. Whether or not that quantity makes sense to offer this with, I have no idea. Personally, I'd prefer not to have it. -
Check the facts..the 4 series Gran Coupe is the 4dr coupe, not a hatchback. The hatchback is the 3 series Gran Turismo. It's the same strategy w/ the 5 and 6...the 5 series has a Gran Turismo hatchback, the 6 has a Gran Coupe 4dr coupe. Walt's point was regarding the door count, not the hatch/non-hatch feature.

Technology is ruining girl's asses. Most now have this large, flat rectangle in one back pocket- their phone. It's killing the view. • • • In other news, I just sold an NOS Gremlin sideview mirror on eBay. Who woulda thunk : $113 (I started it at $39). Now for the real challenge- can I sell a complete NOS cruise control system (including the steering column stalk) for a Pacer? Is ANYONE working on a Pacer, anywhere??

^ The german duo (MB & BMW) are so engrossed in maximizing sales, I don't think they have the management sense to turn things around that quickly.

Mercedez Benz News Rumorpile: More Vans From Mercedes-Benz
balthazar replied to William Maley's topic in Mercedes-Benz
Sure it does... the same way that Cadillac and Chevrolet appear on the same monthly sales report. But not under the brand name 'mercedees' if it's a 'Freightliner'. GMC sales don't count as Cadillac sales...- 23 replies

Mercedez Benz News Rumorpile: More Vans From Mercedes-Benz
balthazar replied to William Maley's topic in Mercedes-Benz
Because it wouldn't show up on the monthly sales report. My local MB dealer, a multi-brand 'mini auto mall' of luxury nameplates (tho under the MB banner) has a full 2-dozen sprinters parked right out front. Looks like a rental moving van outfit. Why they're not around back or off to one side... wonder what the brand snobs overpaying for a MB sedan or cute ute feel when they see all that Refrigerator Whiteness ifront of their 'luxury service experience center'. lol- 23 replies

Mercedez Benz News Rumorpile: More Vans From Mercedes-Benz
balthazar replied to William Maley's topic in Mercedes-Benz
Would be interesting if Daimler marketed a van as the 'E350' - could slide right in on an established nameplate. Oops, they're already using a van nameplate on a "luxury" car.- 23 replies

Only because they're a badge-whore. No need whatsoever to be in every segment in the auto industry when they have other brands for that and a profit margin that doesn't require such.- 23 replies
