  1. -- -- -- -- -- Let's just suppose you're a 19-year old kid. You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle in the Ia Drang Valley, 11-14-65, LZ X-ray, Vietnam. Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8:1, and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away, that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the MediVac helicopters to stop coming in. You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns, and you know you're not getting out. Your family is 1/2 way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day. Then, over the machine gun noise, you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter, and you look up to see a Huey, but it doesn't seem real because no Medi-Vac markings are on it. Ed Freeman is coming for you. He's not Medi-Vac, so it's not his job, but he's flying his un-armed Huey down into the machine gun fire, after the Medi-Vacs were ordered not to come. He's coming anyway. He drops it in, and sits there in the enemy fire, as they load 2 or 3 of you on board. Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire, to the Doctors and Nurses. And, he kept coming back.... 13 more times..... And took about 30 of you and your buddies out, who would never have gotten out. Medal of Honor Recipient, Ed Freeman, died at the age of 80 in Boise, ID, 11-20-27 ~ 08-20-08 May God rest his soul. -- -- -- -- -- I bet you didn't hear about this hero's passing, but we sure were told a whole worthless bunch about some Hip-Hop coward beating the crap out of his "girlfriend". Not that they haven't earned it a billion times over already, but: Eternal shame on the American Media
  2. Interesting... what's the specific morale that condones sh*tting & p*ssing on the carpet ???
  3. Debt-free since 2003 !!
  4. Or even MORE maddening : it may go toward paying lifetime full salaries & 100% healthcare to congressmen no longer in office ... maybe buy a bag of engraved golf tees. -- -- -- -- -- My finances are OK, I always live within my means, but I run an extremely tight financial ship. Was just dreaming yesterday of buying 6 new tires for the '40- they're about $150/per, but it doesn't 'feel' right, right now...
  5. I learned that in 2000, in the Maryland county my parents lived in at the time, fully 5% of the households did NOT have running water.
  6. Oldsmoboi ->>"When congress nationalized then Penn Central and other railroads.... This is exactly how the banking should work.... They clearly can't be trusted. Form Congressional National Bank...."<< Key word: should. Case in point: the US Postal Service- well over 200 yrs old, complete monopoly (aside from package shipping), pays no taxes, has 'gov-appointed' Postmaster (making $800K/yr), and still it lost $5 Billion in '07. Medicare & Medicaid see $110 Billion in fraud per year. Percent of claims audited? 5. Want to stimulate the economy AND save taxpayer money??? Offer training courses for auditors and clean up the putrifying sludge & waste in Big Gov. Hundreds of billions wasted there... but zero interest from those in Gov itself. Time & time again Big Gov has proven itself radically underqualified for the job, little matter what that job is. Banking is too business-centric (of which they have no real experience) and too crucial to allow them to F that up, too.
  7. I wouldn't think a $300 check would be that tough to budget for, but assuredly it could be.
  8. Pay now, pay then, what's the diff? It's not like anyone is losing significant interest in the meanwhile...
  9. In this day & age, 'china' would be FAR from a knee-jerk reaction, and be readily in the 'YOU CAN BET ON IT' range...
  10. >>"Vice President is from Delaware"<< But all we heard during the campaign was that he's a "Scranton boy"...
  11. I have not been in a 2nd gen CTS, but the 1st gen is right about borderline, size-wise, for me. I prefer cars larger than it is, inside & out, generally.
  12. $19 here... then I found a few hundred dollars more in receipts- too late. Looking to greatly increase my percentage of cash intake in '09.
  13. >>"So many nameplates, yet so little variation. The realities of a generic present"<< And you've nutshelled it neatly, perfectly, even. More & more & more of exactly the same, with less variation. Used to be each nameplate had a recognized design language- toss a door on the ground and you knew what it was off of. Now, due to crash- & aero-restrictions, design is on life support & fading fast. The foreign brands have doubled & tripled their nameplates, each attempting to carve their own niche, everyone is begging for even more brands to come here and every one is building 3 & 4 versions of the same vehicle... yet everything looks like everything else. DEPRESSING.
  14. Is it pronounced "Eck-Wuss" ?? :rotflmao:
  15. That's what vintage is for, Camino. Do whatever you want with nearly no restrictions, but generally less money invested. Lemmee guess- just done with one project- not looking for another. Granted. But you could always have one built for you for relatively reasonable money, no?
  16. PRC215 (averaged to get .550 numbers) ~ 311 int / 228 ex @ .550 lift Ratio : .73 Nice! A smidge better than my Stage II Buick heads: Stage II SE ~ 290 int / 220 ex @ .550 Ratio : .76 These, ported, flow 350/260.
  17. This may or may not be the largest shareholder : STATE STREET CORPORATION shares owned : 103,515,638 % of shares owned : 16.96% value of shares owned : $331,250,041 GM has 610 milion shares outstanding. Good luck.
  18. Riding around w/ my buddy in Trenton, checkin' on a few finds ~ '36 Chevy 4-dr, solid original. '40 Chevy 2-dr sedan, dark bluw street rod, perfect. '50 Buick Special 4-dr sedan, black, soild original but worn. '65 Merc Breezeway 4-dr hardtop, white, super clean original. '66 Chevelle 2-dr hardtop, green, rolling husk. '67 Chevelle 2-dr hardtop, black over red rolling husk. '70 El Camino, dark blue, perfect. '70 Chrysler 300 convertible, black, excellent, one of 1077. '72 Merc Marquis 4-dr hardtop, hideous and fetid green to boot.
  19. Came here just now off Elvis Hitler's myspace page- listened to a few streaming tracks there. Turning my son onto them.
  20. I have no problem falling asleep- have done so in some very unlikely places/circumstances. Takes about 2 minutes. However, I usually only run on 5 hrs a night. Right now it's 1:20AM and I'll be up @ 6:30 AM. 1. I got stuff to do, also. 2. Like the shark; stop moving = bad. 3. I'm petrified of my dream world- so I try & stay out of it as much as possible.
  21. 'I think I'm an Admin' ?? I asked a few questions and gave an opinion; I did not demand anything. You might think you know what others are thinking, but you don't...
  22. Are there members here looking to 1. get married, and 2. travel to whichever nearest state there is to do it ?? Because I somehow missed that heart-wrenching, earnestly-pleading thread. If there is such a pair, would not a friendly PM serve the same purpose with less bandwidth ? Yea, yea: if I don't like it, don't click in. While more than aware of the lounge's function/practice over the last 7 years, it's just recently been disproportionally weighed, IMO, esp vs. the million other things this country (and us, in turn) should be concerned with... (nearly all of which border on forbidden politics by the end of page 1).
  23. >>"Don't forget about the Enclave, now being sold in China."<< Finally... yet from the beginning all I've read is 'Buick can't die- it's huge in China!' but here we're possibly looking at a China Buick only and somehow that's not a worry.
  24. Shoot for this if you dare: 5 days straight with only two 1.5 hours naps. I could've kept going, too. No drugs, either (never).
  25. What the hell is the fascination with state-by-state gay marriage rulings lately ????? Are we to look forward to 40-something more topics on this ??
