  1. I avoid compacts when renting cars, but I did rent a couple larger Hyundais in California a few years ago...both a '14 Genesis sedan and a '16 Sonata.. IIRC they were not particularly memorable, but pretty decent and pleasant.
  2. That was like the one I saw at the Cleveland auto show, IIRC...bright red w/ tan interior. That black w/ dark red two tone interior is nice also.
  3. Not sure why you would be trying to compare this to the ATS, the Lexus ATS competitors are the IS (sedan) and RC (coupe). Different niches, different price points. This is their competitor to the BMW 8 series and M-B S-class coupe.
  4. No point in spelling out the name with the badge there. Chevy doesn't do it, Cadillac doesn't do it, etc...
  5. I found an article that said in 2016 GM had 10.2 million sales world wide, their first year over 10 mil. I wonder what their all time highest sales year for the US was? It seems like it might have been in at a time when they had a lot of models and a lot of market share, perhaps 1977? Looking at the numbers at the first link below, Chevy was 2.5m, Olds 1.1m, Pontiac and Buick both over 800k...1978 and 1979 were similar, but lower... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Automobile_Production_Figures http://money.cnn.com/2017/02/07/news/companies/gm-record-sales-profits/index.html
  6. Makes sense..Chevy is the broad truck brand with work trucks and personal use/family trucks, and let GMC focus on the luxury trucks and try and minimize overlap..
  7. Not really my thing, but they were 2drs and had character...not generic enough in today's market, alas.
  8. Volvo trucks today are unrelated to Volvo cars (though at one time that were parts of the same company, long ago).
  9. GMC is about luxury w/ the Denalis, these really don't fit that marketing message. Chevy can have the commercial use focus. Though I assume GMC will get some of these also?
  10. Cadillac need an Escalade HD version of this...
  11. So this is a preview of their i-Pace/Model X competitor, methinks...lots of the deets look production ready...
  12. Weird lighting on the front end, strong similarities to VW and Audi exterior profile and rear styling, rather plain interior for the price...nothing about the interior really shouts ultra luxury, IMO.
  13. I'd heard of Quigley 4x4 conversions, usually with Ford Econolines. But had not heard of Mowag---Swiss Dodge van 4x4 conversions. http://www.curbsideclassic.com/blog/reader-ride-dodge-mowag-4x4-b350-van-swiss-rarity/
  14. Very strange how the driveshafts come from the black trapezoid (transfer case?) and connect to thingys behind each wheel..never seen a driveline like that.. Googling turned up this--Vemco V-drive 4x4 conversion.. The Vehicle Engineering and Manufacturing Company of Fort Wayne Indiana offered Ford and Chevy van conversions from approximately 1976-1980, and went out of business soon thereafter. Same picture of the van on it's side w/ rust.. http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2017/06/a-full-size-chevy-van-with-vemco-v.html This article is linked from the above link, refers to it as a Dana system. Has that same strange picture. http://www.curbsideclassic.com/blog/cc-outtake-1980-dana-v-drive-4wd-gmc-school-van-a-rarity-indeed/
  15. Clean design.. looks like an Audi. I like it..
  16. I've been seeing this error occasionally the last few days when clicking on a topic or forum within the site. With Safari. Fatal error: Class 'IPS\Theme\Cache\class_core_front_global' not found in /home/ddowdell/public_html/cheersandgears.com/system/Theme/Theme.php(871) : eval()'d code on line 14
  17. The coupes I have experience with were all on the smaller side...'86 Mustang LX, '87 Mustang GT, '91 Acura Legend, '91 Mercedes 300CE, '96 BMW M3...all had pretty tight back seats... I do remember friends back in the day w/ 80s-90s GM coupes that were more spacious. Growing up, my folks had a variety of Ford 2drs--'60s-70s Cougars, '70s-80s Thunderbirds and Mustangs--so I did ride in plenty when I was a kid.
  18. I'm not a truck guy, but if I did buy one, I'd go for the Ram..funny, 25 years ago the Dodge Ram was the brash new look against more conservative Ford and GM designs, and now Ram is the clean, subtle design vs busy, overwrought designs from Ford and GM...
  19. I've done it in my JGC...had to turn off the traction control. Was fun to hoon around after a big snowfall last month...
  20. Lucas Electrics.. ...the notorious unreliability of Lucas components played a key role in tanking the British car industry in the early 1980s. Make the jump for "If Lucas made guns, wars would not start," and other classics. The Lucas motto: "Get home before dark." Lucas is the patent holder for the short circuit. Lucas - Inventor of the first intermittent wiper. Lucas - Inventor of the self-dimming headlamp. The three position Lucas switch - Dim, Flicker and Off. The Original Anti-Theft Device - Lucas Electrics. Lucas is an acronym for Loose Unsoldered Connections and Splices https://jalopnik.com/399791/joe-lucas-prince-of-darkness-british-electrical-system-jokes But seriously, I'm sure this new car is very well engineered...been a long time since the Lucas era...
  21. I wonder if the Sierra will get the special tailgate option as an exclusive for a year or two then Chevy gets it...I can't imagine Chevy letting GMC have something like this (if it is successful).
  22. And where is the fan and radiator?
  23. Very strange...it's like the location of the intake(s) and exhaust are reversed...wonder what the purpose of such a configuration is.
