  1. The new Compass Limited is very nice. But that as-tested price..wowza. I'm happy w/ CPOs and a bit of depreciation--my '14 GC Limited was the price of Ocn's Compass Latitude.
  2. She's still cute, I like how Allisya Milano looks at 44 and Marissa Tomei at 53. So many Hollywood women ruin their looks with plastic surgery rather than aging naturally, IMO...
  3. Different strokes for different folks, I guess...the key for me is adjustability. I like to get the seat height, seatback rake, steering wheel position, mirror position, etc just right. I like the smaller, thickly padded wheels w/ tilt & telescope adjustment compared to fixed huge thin rimmed wheels of olden days where the rim of the wheel is rubbing my thighs and I can't adjust anything. My '69 Mustang--I love the styling but it's so unsatisfying to drive--horrible seating, 2 part seatbelts, horrible outward visibility with tiny non-power mirrors, etc. My '87 Mustang is better--late 80s adjustability and ergonomics are closer to modern, but it has it's issues. I agree that the outward visibility in many modern cars is pretty poor--some worse than others, but mirrors and back up cameras help alleviate that. And after getting to used to having all the usual mod cons, I couldn't see going back to a more basic, primitive environment for daily use...just too retrograde. I look at old cars like I look at old computers--I might have nostalgic feelings for my old TRS-80, Commodore 64, or Sun Sparc Ultra, but I certainly would not use any of them as my daily--that's what my Mac Book Pro is for. (I'm sure this will make no sense to some, but that's ok..just explaining how I see things in my reality context).
  4. Well, there is the Smart Brabus. No reason they couldn't rebadge a Smart as a Mercedes Benz Less-than-A-class AMG..
  5. Heh-heh... I've driven some old cars and ridden in them, but wouldn't want to drive one more once a week or so. I find I can't get comfortable in them--esp. the models with seats go fore and aft only and giant fixed steering wheels. The lack of adjustment and ergonomics are awful.. I would never give up the modern amenities and the good cupholders of a modern vehicle for a daily driver.
  6. Yeah, with those primitive seat belts (or none at all), fixed steering columns with giant steering wheels of death, x-frames, etc hitting a curb at 10mph would be fatal in some of them..
  7. Lots of good stuff there...I love To Live and Die in LA..great William Friedkin film (who also directed The French Connection). Great Wang Chung soundtrack (I have the soundtrack CD in my soundtrack collection). Rendezvous is great also..was a Ferrari of some sort, IIRC.
  8. Haven't seen Hot Rod and Eat My Dust. I really like Baby Driver, saw it in the theatre last summer. Of the older movies w/ car chases and car scenes, some favorites of mine include Bullitt, Vanishing Point, Duel, French Connection, The Seven Ups, Blues Brothers, Ronin, The Transporter. Another recent one I liked is Drive.
  9. So this is going to be on D2XX/D2UX platform w/ the 107.2 inch wheelbase like the Equinox, Terrain and Envision?
  10. Slept a bit from 6 am to 9:30 am; took a sick day; lying on my couch covered in warm, dozing terriers binge-watching 'The Orville'... not paying attention to the news or anything else. Mellow...
  11. Insomnia sucks..
  12. I wasn't sure when they switched from SRX to XT5...couldn't find a list for 2017 YTD sales; SRX wasn't on the 2016 top 10 list either. Anyway, volume shouldn't be the measure of luxury anyway, right? I don't see that as a problem. That is its niche and price point. It seems like a competitive model in that segment. It has more in common with them than with the X5 or GLE.
  13. Saw a really clean white late 90s Grand Prix 4dr at the gas station this evening. First one I had seen in ages. Last night came out of Target to see a dark red new Pacifica parked next to me. It's funny, the minivan body is much taller, but my Jeep roof sits slightly higher because of the larger wheels and 4x4 ground clearance.
  14. The XT5 seems naturally to be competition with other FWD/AWD V6 CUVs in it's price range--like the MDX, RX, MKX, etc). I don't see them as competition for the GLE or X5, which offer V8s and performance versions. The car based FWD/AWD is the high volume end of the niche---RX and MDX are #1 and #2 in luxury CUV/SUV sales (2016). XT5 wasn't even in the top 10. http://www.nydailynews.com/autos/street-smarts/best-selling-luxury-suvs-2016-list-article-1.2956170
  15. Yay..stormy night and a power outage. At least it only lasted about an hour and a half. I came back from dinner and the grocery, pull in the garage, garage door shuts..and boom--power out, hadn't even shut off my car or gotten out. Fun..good thing I have flashlights plugged in charging in most every room.
  16. The W166/X166 platform (2011+ ML/GLE and 2013+ GL/GLS) is the platform jointly developed as the WK2 Grand Cherokee and Durango (and evolved from the previous WK). Not a car platform.
  17. Actually, the mid& large MB SUVs (GLE and GLS) are on a dedicated SUV platform...not the E class platform. The subcompact (GLA) and compact (GLC) CUVs are car-based, though.
  18. The XT5's primary competition, though, are FWD/AWD...(Acura MDX,Lexus RX, Lincoln MKX), so they are being consistent with their market niche.
  19. A Corvette ZR1 crossover would be cool...and a sedan. I've wondered before why not turn Corvette into a multi-model brand, like Porsche. The RWD Corvette C7. The mid-engined Corvette C8. A Panamera-like sedan, and a CUV. Would be a big investment, but it would likely pay for itself if well-marketed and well-executed.
  20. Lamborghinis today are supposed to loud, violent, angry robot looking cars that look like they would cut you if touch them..and that catch on fire easily. This is too tame.
  21. I expected it to be more radical..odd that it's that 'cheap' (for a Lambo) also..I would think Lamborghini would do something about $400k with front and rear scissor doors...maybe this is to be the entry level SUV ala the Huracan is their entry sports car, and do something more radical to pair w/ the Aventador...
  22. Seems like a program like that if it were across GM brands or across FCA brands could work for some people, like ocn who trades every few months.
  23. Unseasonably warm and sunny today for NE Ohio--52 degrees this afternoon. Drove down to New Philadelphia to have lunch w/ my brother, saw a clean bright red '57 Chevy 2dr w/ Cragars rolling along up I-77. Also saw a yellow w/ black hood and roof Challenger Hellcat.
  24. True enough..they know large scale production... I would hope anyone that bought them would keep the identity, not blandify or mainstream them into regular brands..
