  1. As someone who has owned 5 hatchbacks (2 cars, 3 SUVs) I'm more a fan of the more upright hatches...of today's models, I'd have to look closely at the Golf and Golf SportWagen...
  2. Hmmm...within my budget, I'd go for: 1 VW Golf Sportwagen 2. Jeep Compass Limited 3. Ford Fusion SE 4. Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5. Chrysler 300C, Dodge Charger R/T or Dodge Challenger R/T 6. Chevy Tahoe LT
  3. They've had small Hyundais in Europe for decades...different naming scheme there, though... models have alphanumeric names beginning with 'i'. The SUVs have the same names, though. As far as larger cars in Europe, the only ones that still sell are the premium brands--Jaguar, the German 3, etc... mass market 'big' cars mostly died out there years ago.
  4. He's a neat guy..had a bunch of interesting cars over the years..he's had a couple 1st gen Broncos, a '57 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser, a '59 Ford Skyliner, a '68 428 Torino GT, others. Saw him last year, he and his wife are approaching 80, but still in good health..they have a black Acura MDX now.
  5. A VW at an Audi price point never made sense...I've read the 1st gen models were pretty capable as a 4x4... haven't seen many of the 2nd gen models.
  6. An uncle of mine had one of these, dark red. Lives down in Chillicothe, sold it probably 30 years ago. Neat car.
  7. That's a neat body style..don't think I've ever seen a photo of one with the top down (did it go down?)..
  8. Similar profile to the Cadillac Sixteen concept.
  9. Not to mention the non-towed end might drag the ground on many cars.... rollbacks are a much better solution to the old school approach.
  10. Kind of surprising to see them continuing a Holden performance sub-brand given the demise of their main product platform...
  11. I can't recall the last time I've seen a bumper-lift tow truck in use...everytime I've had a car towed has been on a rollback truck...
  12. Yeah, the transmission was clearly on the way out...needed a brake job, shocks, electrical work (power windows worked intermittently). Got my money's worth...
  13. Bummer... my old Jeep blew off the upper radiator hose last year...managed to limp home about a mile and a half, steam and coolant blowing everywhere. I let it cool off, reattached the hose, filled up the coolant, away I went.. the old 4.0l 6 even though it was always leaking oil was hard to kill...
  14. Lincoln still had them in '11. Stand up hood ornaments need to make a comeback..Cadillacs would look good with them. Sadly, a lot of new Benzes have the oversized in-grille badges which once were only for the sporty models...M-B needs to put stand up hood ornaments on all of their models.
  15. Ok...6 cylinders. Top 5. For a daily, something practical-- '17 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit For late-model fun-- '15 Porsche 911 GT3 '15 Porsche Boxster S For older fun-- '89 Nissan Skyline GT-R '91 Acura NSX Second list of 6 cyl models... Something new and shiny-- Cadillac CTS-V Surprise, surprise--a couple old 4.0L Jeeps. '00 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 in Patriot Blue, like my old one '93 Jeep Grand Cherokee--wouldn't mind having a first gen And now the wild cards, downright weird... '69 Ford Custom 2dr sedan with 3 on the tree and a 240 Six (a rarity) '67 Ford F100 pickup w/ the 300 6 and 3 on the tree. Never had a truck, but an old Ford would be fun to bomb around in.
  16. I did ride in a Patriot once and was shocked by how cheap and nasty the interior seemed...just gray plastic shit everywhere.....not a fan of the cheap Jeeps...even the Liberty had a decent interior by comparison, IMO.
  17. Speaking of Audis, one anecdote I've heard...my buddy in Denver w/ the NSX had to replace his '02 Maxima daily driver last year after it was totaled from hail damage...he's been pretty much a lifelong Japanese car buyer--but he got a low mileage '13 Audi A6 CPO...long story short--he grew to despise it--multiple electrical failures that stranded him and required tows, multiple trips to the dealer, etc. He traded it last week on a new Maxima....so does Audi have some of the same quality problems VW has?
  18. Ok..I have a 6cyl list in mind..will type up something tonight..
  19. That goes back to my 'smoke and mirrors' comment...vaporware, I'll believe it when I see product in a showroom and on the street... Successfully launching a tech software company is a very difficult proposition, successfully launching a high-tech car company has to be infinitely more difficult to pull off...
  20. Yeah, noticed that...I could probably come up with an all-GM list (if not limited to a single brand) and a Mopar list, but for a single brand Ford has the most that interest me... I can easily come up with a GM or Mopar list that has models from several brands in each list, but sticking to one brand is very limiting.
  21. Does Audi use redundant steering wheel buttons for things like radio volume and seek/scan? Chrysler/Jeep and others have done that for ages...(both my Jeeps have had them, usually use them instead of the knob or touch screen).
  22. Great interior...like how clean and subtle the dash is (I used to loathe touch screens--still do in some aspects, but have grown to like them if well-designed). Exterior definitely evolutionary from the last 29 years of big Audis..
  23. A Benz version would be a giant 3-spoke wheel...and 3-spokes are usually the ugliest of wheels...can't think of a 3 spoke design that has ever looked very good. Weird idea... I've seen on FB groups some really cheesy looking Cadillac logo wheels and steering wheels--giant logo that fills up the wheel.
  24. ^ The doors on the Model X are power opening and closing, apparently the reason is so the car can drop you off and go on it's way, (in the future when they are more autonomous). https://www.theverge.com/2016/10/20/13345440/tesla-model-x-autonomous-self-opening-door
  25. More like chasing Bentley and Lamborghini...Porsche and Jaguar CUVs are way cheaper than anything Ferrari would do..
