Genesis News: Trademark Filings Hint At SUVs and Coupes From Genesis
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Genesis
Luxury segment coupes still sell, albeit in smaller numbers than sedans....Audi has one, BMW has 3, Lexus has 2, MB has several...got to have some if they are serious at luxury, along with convertibles eventually... -
Industry News: Loyalty for SUVs and Crossovers Hits A New High
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
After 17 years of JGCs and 23 years of an SUV daily driver, I foresee always having one as my main vehicle...just so practical. -
Wasn't there already this specific one?

'rationalized' and 'standardized' work also...basically adopting a common component across multiple brands. -
Audi News: Rumorpile: Next Audi S8 To Use Panamera's Twin-Turbo V8

Not sure what you mean by 'homologated' in this context, maybe 'homogenized'? Homologation is a racing term, i.e. a certain # of a street car or engine built to quality it for a racing series. I can't really understand why there were lawsuits--- a case of ignorant buyers? There were certain GM models that used Chevy engines since the early 70s... All the X-bodies in the 70s used Chevy 6s, the Pontiac Le Mans used a Chevy 6 from '70 onward, didn't some of the '60s Cutlasses also use a Chevy 6? The whole separate engines for each brand idea seems insanely expensive...Chrysler abandoned that idea in the late 50s/early 60s, Ford did at some point in the 60s... -
I'm sure if there is something to it, there will be a recall, if not already.... without all the silly drama.

Well, it is an FCA product..recalls are to be expected...just heard about a new one pertaining to my Jeep that's coming..something to do with the alternator and fires.

Audi News: Rumorpile: Next Audi S8 To Use Panamera's Twin-Turbo V8
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Audi
Or Roger Smith... the horrible, cheap look-alike FWD mediocrity--X-, J-, A-, N-, L- body generics hurt GM immeasurably in the 80s...bland, soulless, styleless appliances. Anyway, that is best put in the past and forgotten--a sad chapter in GM's history. Anyway, back on topic, sharing components across brands shouldn't be a problem for VW, nothing new--Porsches have used Audi engines and products in the past, Audis have used VW engines, etc. They have been sharing platforms and some engines across the brands for a while, yet keep distinct styling (and presumably driving characteristics). Keep in mind it's been less than a decade since the full Porsche acquisition by VW AG, Audi's current V8 and Porsche's current V8 were developed before that...long time lines in the car biz... -
Audi News: Rumorpile: Next Audi S8 To Use Panamera's Twin-Turbo V8

Heh-heh, yeah...I'm just being a cold-hearted cynical realist. I used to care about such things also... -
Given the mess FCA is in and the way the market is shifting, I do wonder if there will be a next gen Charger or 300..

2014 Cadillac CTS 2.0t AWD Luxury ( Used Car Review)
Robert Hall replied to regfootball's topic in Reader Reviews
I like the 2014 CTS grille better w/ the older emblem with wreath than the newer grille with horizontal badge. -
I like the interior design...looks more upscale than a typical appliance....the white and black looks good, but it would require a lot of upkeep to stay clean and look good..at least they are going with some color choices beyond the usual boring gray.

Audi News: Rumorpile: Next Audi S8 To Use Panamera's Twin-Turbo V8
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Audi
You are overthinking this...bringing this back to reality, I really doubt if many customers of Audis actually care...it's just a black and silver component under the hood that they never look at...it just doesn't matter. Remember, these are typically leased luxury cars, people drive them 2-3 years, trade on another.... Lamborghini has used Audi-based V8s for years now...they still catch fire and crash regardless of the source of the engine. -
Audi News: Rumorpile: Next Audi S8 To Use Panamera's Twin-Turbo V8
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Audi
Yeah, I guess internal fighting and differing timelines kept this from happening sooner....since VW AGs overall goal is to a have few shared platform/component sets, it doesn't make sense for brands to not share engines, at least the basic engine w/ individual brand tuning and output levels.. -

Whilst out and about this afternoon, I saw a clean white w/ blue stripes '69 Trans Am, and an odd tow truck... red early 00s Silverado HD with stock longbed, with a long beam at an angle mounted in the bed with a large rusty metal cross shaped graboid at the end of the beam... name of the business was something Recovery (the UK English term for a wrecker service). No roof lights like on the cab like a normal wrecker, makes me think it was used for low-profile work like reposessions...

The early 90s Accord was one of the better styled Accord generations, IMO...they were crisp and clean, with a low beltline and big windows, great outward visibility..
-
The two tone interiors definitely are a big improvement over basic despair gray or black.

Interesting..first time Honda has gone with a 6 window greenhouse for the Accord (and likewise for the current Civic, I believe). The dash style reminds me a lot of current BMWs...
