Interesting photoshop mashup of a Prius (or Marai?) and an Infiniti SUV...

Slowing before turning. I see no issue here, as long as their brake lights work.Braking before turn signals should be no problem---were you tailgating? The turn signal comes on WELL before the brake lights. This courtesy lets the person following time to give the turner plenty of room to slow for the turn, plus make sure the people behind the second person are well clear to prevent an accident. If you aren't tailgating, the order of signaling vs brake lights shouldn't matter. Also, if you signal too early, people will speed up to block you from moving over into their lane...

It is fascinating to think of all of the change that resulted from the mainstreaming of cars in the early to mid 20th century. Houses being built w/ garages. Drive through businesses. Parking lots. Traffic signals. Paved roads then freeways...and on and on. One a side tangent, one thing that I see in house hunting is the rise in the 60s of 2 car households. So many houses I've seen online in a few areas I'm closely into tick all my boxes for # of bedrooms, bathrooms, square footage, back yard, price but have only a 1 car garage...seen many beautiful 40s-50s bricks, MCM, ranches and split levels that have only a 1 car garage.. Trying to avoid boring modern suburban subdivisions.

Re: the early decades of the car--it is amazing how many companies were in existence in the early 20th century, and a car was a fairly complicated mechanism even then. There must have been some set of common components made by a few suppliers that many car makers used, such as Continental engines which appeared in many marques. Seems like it would have been a very costly venture to build cars in a vertically integrated fashion, with single marque-specific components...

Seems like there was a huge number of short lived car makers prior to the 30s that few have heard of today...

The current Spark btw is called the Beat in India..they also have a Spark model, but it's the older Chevywoo Matiz that wasn't sold in the US but sold elsewhere as the Pontiac G2..

Another interesting Hawk variation was the 1958 Packard Hawk, sadly at the end of the road for a once proud marque..
-
Probably will be a FWD version also, I thought I read the '16s were all AWD...
-
To clarify, the 2dr sedan, 4dr and wagon were in the Champion, Commander and President lines...the Hawks were only 2dr coupes/2dr sedans. I believe these 'regular' Studebakers shared dirty bits underneath, but had more upright and less sleek styling than the Hawks. The '53-55 Studebaker Starliner and Starlight 2drs (not named as such in '55) were amongst the best styled 50s cars IMO...they looked so sleek compared to the humpy/frumpy cars the Big 3 had in '53...they were arguably one of the first 'personal luxury' cars, before that term came into use... Here is a '57 Hawk...they took the '53-55 design, smoothed the doors, added fins and a big grille, not an improvement, IMO..
-
Correct: all 'Hawks' were 2-doors, from '56 thru the GTs of '64. But other Studebakers of the era certainly bore stylistic resemblance to the Hawks, for example; this '56 President : But these are not the same series nor the same body shells. Na, so that looks downright dowdy to me compared to the Hawks. Like "I really wanted a 1956 Ford CustomLine, but couldn't afford the payments..... so I got this...." The '53-55 regular Studebaker sedans and wagons had a very similar front end and rear end to the '53-55 coupes, and cleaner styling than the '56-58 ones which got tarted up... there was also available in an ultra cheapo model in the late 50s called the Scotsman. '53 Commander Starliner hardtop coupe (from which the Hawk evolved): '53 Starlight pillared coupe: '53 2dr sedan: '53 wagon: '53 Studebaker 4dr:

The ones my local dealer have are '16s...I assume the '17s will be in over the summer sometime...I also noticed the sticker prices on the Envisions seems to be roughly twice that of the Encores...seems like Buick has a CUV gap in the 35k range...

No... hatchbacks and wagons have two different definitions. That's why VW makes a Golf hatchback and a Golf Wagon. 2014-volkswagen-golf-wagon-side.jpg 2015-volkswagen-golf-gti-side-view.jpg A wagon is a sedan length car with the roof extended back to the rear. A hatchback is a sedan with most of the trunk chopped off. The angle of the rear glass has little to do with the definition either way. There are wagons with sharply sloped rear glass and there are hatches with vertical rear glass and vice versa. Exactly. Don't know why some have to create some imaginary scenario in order to split hairs over something that doesn't require hair splitting. There are obvious differences between a hatchback and a wagon. Thanks for pointing that out Drew. ..and a wagon almost always has a rear quarter window...can't think of any right off that don't have one. Hatchbacks may or may not have one (like the Golf doesn't have one, but the Focus does).

I am surprised they haven't done a conventional 4dr sedan 1 series yet... With the X4 and X6, I'm sure a coupe CUV X2 off the X1 is in the works...- 10 replies

Weird Issues today June 10th 2016

I'm using the same version of Chrome on Windows 10, and it's fine for me, haven't noticed any issues. Haven't seen any issues on Safari and Chrome on my Mac also, and on my iPhone on Safari. One thing about the menus, you do have to click on them and not just hover to get them to expand. (I think it has always worked that way with this version of the forum software)? -
I saw a black GT in Scottsdale a few months ago...beautiful car.

Not to mention the Hummvee was garbage and the G550 4x4 probably has much better cupholders... The Wrangler though has very little in common beyond the concept with the '40s Jeeps, while the modern Merc G has a lot in common w/ the '70s G...
