  1. 3-4 inches taller sounds strange...taller as in ride height or actually making the body taller? Why??? These trucks are huge the way it is now...
  2. All of my coworkers updated their 4S phones to io6 last week...and have been grousing about it...a couple of them even stood in line Friday for hours to get their iPhone 5s.... On the other hand, we all updated our Mac Book Pros to Mountain Lion a couple weeks ago, so far, no problems.
  3. Even Apple can have epic fails..but that won't deter the faithful, I'm afraid. I'm happy w/ my Android phone.
  4. appliance.

    CDL required?

Yes, some...Cadillac CTS-v, Camaro, Corvettes, Mustangs, Challengers, Chargers, 300s...the good stuff. Very little of the FWD generics are worth remembering even 5 years from now, IMO. Seriously, who is going to care about a 1.4L 4cyl generic after a few years?

Most vehicles today are just disposable appliances...functional transportation to get from point a to point b with minimum fuss for a few years to trade on another appliance. Very few vehicles today are interesting enough to get passionate about. That's just the way it is...
  7. The sleepers I'd love to build- 1. late model ('03-11) Lincoln Town Car w/ the modern 5.0 Coyote or 5.4 supercharged V8 from a GT500, 6spd auto and stiffer suspension (but keep a smooth ride) 2. mid '90s Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham with CTS-v 6.2 V8, 6spd auto and stiffer suspension (but keep a smooth ride) 3. late model Crown Vic Police Interceptor w/ the modern 5.0 Coyote. Hmmm..pattern here?
  8. I've never had what I'd term a sleeper, but my brother has a '69 Ford Fairlane that fits the description...plain 4dr sedan, base hubcaps, 390 4bbl engine.. powerful and rather quick. I wonder if there were any 4dr '69 Chevelles built w/ 396s...
  9. Mitsubishi had a similar, boxy style van in the US then also...about the only one of that group I remember was the Toyota van...I've seen a few of those over the last ten years, in So Cal and Hawaii.
  10. I love the '62 Pontiac styling, esp. the Bonneville taillights...
  11. I can't imagine using a road map, especially in a city like Boston where you need to constantly check it to make sure you're going the right way if you aren't familiar with the city. And if you want to, say, find a parking garage with the lowest price in the area you want to park, good luck with that. Whereas the phone showed us various garages at various prices, allowing us to pick the one we wanted without spending forever looking for them. Just don't rely on iOS6 Maps or you'll end up in a river looking for a restaurant. Case in point..was in So Cal last week in a rental car w/o a map, but by using Google Maps and Yelp on my phone was able to easily find restaurants in Rancho Cucamonga (love the name of that town, for some reason) and restaurants and parking in Palm Springs, both places which I'd never been to before. Though I had printed out directions at home for getting from the hotel to the race track, I found a better route on my phone w/ Google navigation...
  12. Engine fires...the engine they installed for the NA market was too large and tended to overhead and catch fire..sold here '87-90. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Vanette
  13. Nissan Van, IIRC. Can't recall the problem, though.
  14. Yeah, I couldn't imagine using a plain cell phone these days..that would be so 20th century, like using dialup internet. The convenience of a smart phone is great...I don't even take a laptop with me anymore on weekend getaways, can do everything I need to do on the phone.
  15. The '55 looks like it has a shortened 4dr sedan roof (with a 4dr rear upper door on a 4dr front lower door). I'd like to see a profile shot.
  16. Price wise, it's probably about 10k more than the Chevy version (which isn't coming to the US?) and 10k less than the inevitable Cadillac version...
  17. Pretty cool... the things I always find amazing when I see a car of this era up close at a car show is how wide they are, how long the decklids are, and low they are...such a different design language than the last 30 years or so..
  18. hard
  19. Most buyers are too lazy to switch to proper winter tires and rely on weak 'all-season' tires it seems...
  20. Happy Birthday, Cort!
  21. I seem to recall reading a few years ago of bumpers being lowered on large trucks and SUVs specifically to make them more compatible w/ cars in crashes..
  22. I find so much of the detailing on '50s design to look tacked on, too much chrome trim, fins, etc. '58 was the worst year for GMs, IMO...way too much gingerbread. The '59s were an improvement, esp. w/ the lower longer wider bodies (and details such as moving the headlights down into the grilles). I find the crisper, cleaner '61-64 models much more appealing style-wise...
  23. The Olds and Pontiac rears are mild compared to the over the top '59 Chevy rear, though....
  24. That center fin is wild...interesting how both the '59 Chevy and '59 Buick had simple rear bumpers...all the styling was in the fins...
