  1. A G8 GXP version would make a great Magnum SRT8 competitor...
  2. Happy Birthday! Cheers, Rob
  3. Yes...those are some of my favorite driving roads in the country, and I've driven backroads in many states.. I've had a lot of fun on the twisty roads of Ohio in a variety of interesting cars--several Mustangs, a 350Z, a Focus (even in rental car form, the '02 was a great handler, IMHO), several Town Cars and Grand Marquis, my M3..
  4. That's one thing I've never figured out..esp. in subcompacts and compacts, hatchbacks are superior to sedans.. I certainly wouldn't want a small car with a small trunk. Hatchbacks are way more practical (and usually look better than their sedan counterparts---i.e. Focus, Mazda3, Golf vs. Jetta, etc).
  5. Interesting idea... I'd like to see GM offer more hatchbacks in the US...way more useful (and usually better looking) than their sedan counterparts...
  6. Some of us do enjoy windy country roads, it's not all freeway driving in the US... I've long enjoyed a drive on the twisty mountain roads in Colorado or Arizona, or driving the winding backroads of eastern Ohio... Not all Americans are as narrow minded as you are..
  7. What a magnificent design...one of GM's finest, and my favorite Oldsmobile. I'd have one in my dream car garage, along with my other favorite vintage GMs---a '67 Eldorado, '63 Riviera, '71 Riviera, '71 Grand Prix, '67 Corvette...
  8. 36mpg is pathetic for something that small.... what a joke. It really has no place outside of large, congested city inner core areas.
  9. Probably Pontiac w/ the '68 GTO. Plastic bumpers didn't really become wide spread until the late '70s...
  10. Saw a sharp silver blue '70 Monte Carlo, a yellow '68 Chevy pickup, and a black '65 Mustang 2+2 today...
  11. Yes...they seem to be on the path to eliminating model overlap... one thing that hurt GM in the '80s-90s was the endless look-alike generic FWD mediocremobiles that seemed to have no substantive differences across the CBOP brands...they have a come a long way from that.
  12. It's unfortunate where they mounted the plate...the plates ruins the look of the grille...they should have mounted the driving lights higher or encorporated them into the headlight pod and mounted the plate to the side instead.
  13. True...the G8 and Solstice are the only Pontiacs currently that embody a 'Pontiac spirit' and are worthwhile, IMHO..the rest of the line is just rental car filler, IMHO...
  14. I'm guilty of that myself...I've been averaging almost 6 posts a day...got to throttle back and chill.
  15. Apparently the building was leased previously. CNN Money article
  16. I've seen a bunch of the new Sebring convertibles also... in my office building's parking lot, there are a number of convertibles--a Miata, an Eos, 3 Merc SLs (one an AMG SL55), a 3-series, a Sebring, a '68 Camaro RS, a 2000 or so Mustang GT convertible, and 2 current style Mustang convertibles.
  17. That would be a nice lineup... 4 models would be enough...Buick has 3 models...
  18. I've seen probably a dozen or so Eoses in the last couple of weeks...seem pretty popular in the Valley of the Sun.
  19. In traffic this afternoon I saw a sharp medium blue '69 Chevelle SS... had a serious rumble.
  20. Thing is, for most people, the Camry is a perfectly rational choice...they just look at the reviews in Consumer Reports, the reliability ratings, the resale value, it's an easy choice. GM choices are a harder sell for most people, I'm afraid.
  21. Things get busy around auto show time and new model year releases...not much going on now..
  22. Latest news on the American Axle strike is that GM is looking to conceed $200 million to them...(might as well flush it down the toilet).
  23. Yeah, weight is a factor..the Escort was probably 2500 lbs. It was kind of fun on windy roads..had good steering feel. Wouldn't want to drive it today because of the lack of content (it was a stripped down L model w/ vinyl interior, am radio, manual windows, etc), lack of modern features (no cupholders, etc) and lack of safety features (no airbags, ABS, etc).
  24. My 52hp diesel Escort got around quite efficiently (over 50 highway) and would cruise at highway speeds (55-65) quite well, but that was 20+ years ago... it was pretty slow to accelerate, even w/ a 5 speed manual. Wouldn't really want to drive it today.
  25. Went to play softball in Scottsdale w/ the company team tonight...sitting in the lot at the field was a gorgeous maroon '68 Camaro RS convertible, top down, parked next to a late model SL 65 AMG, top down also. Later, at the pub, I saw a black '69 GTO in the lot. Sweet.
