  1. And Gen X is small, numerically, compared to the boomers and millenials.. Gen Xers have done a lot of interesting things, look at the successful companies started by Xers (Google, Yahoo, to name a couple). My own family is unusual...born in '70, I'm an Xer, but my sister (1957) and brother (1949) are boomers, while my folks were of the depression/WWII generation (1920,1930).
  2. Watch it there kiddo, he's only a year older than me... Gen X rules
  3. Yes, I love their 6s....I miss my M3..
  4. Speaking of giant shovels and draglines...I remember as a kid in Ohio in the '70s going to see the Big Muskie...looks like it was dismantled in '99...I found a website about it.. Big Muskie
  5. It looks minor..nothing that a little duct tape can't fix...
  6. That would be unusual... anyway, with the congestion and traffic, 80+ is realistically only possible in the US between metro areas on 75mph freeways.
  7. I suspect 60-70% of GM's product line probably had less than 138hp (and was heavier) 20 years ago... 138hp in a compact hatchback is sufficient.
  8. Whatever...in the reality of 75 mph freeways in many Western states, driving at a constant 80 mph is not unusual...I did it all the time in Colorado.
  9. True, but the CTS-v is really an anomaly...luxury car buyers in general expect a modern OHC engine in a luxury car. If GM is going to try and seriously compete in the big leagues for regular luxury cars, they need a modern OHC V8...
  10. humor (and esp. humour) is difficult to convey in a text only context....
  11. That engine would be inapropriate for luxury cars, though.
  12. IIRC, in a magazine article it was written that it was done that way so the passenger seat could still be folded down. Still lame, though. The Lincoln is the MKS. Strangely tall looking in person, I thought...but still interesting.
  13. Yes....the benefits affect GM worldwide.
  14. Some FWD models are fun to drive...they aren't all generic transportation devices..
  15. I'd love to see something like that...I'm not holding my breath that it will happen, though.
  16. Well, I could see them moving down to GM's crossovers and midsize sedans. Obviously, people that need full size trucks and SUVs (the 5% that are commercial users or have boats, trailers, etc) will keep driving them, but over time that vast majority that don't need those bloat beasts can trade down to something more rational...too bad GM is getting out of the minivan market, though...a lot of family types would probably be better off with a minivan than a Tahoe, for example.
  17. Could be..maybe they are (incorrectly) using 'model' to mean bodystyles and trim levels. To me, a 'model' is a named product line (Astra, Vectra, Corsa) within a brand (Opel)..
  18. True, but like all stereotypes, it's based in fact....I'm amazed at the number of monster trucks and SUVs I see in my daily commute...driven by one person. True, but they are in the minority.. The most efficient are small and FWD. Myself, I'd like to see midsize and larger RWD cars offered with efficient diesels, but I don't see that happening anytime soon here..
  19. The world wants fuel efficient small FWD cars...that's reality..it's only the US that's obsessed with 6000lb trucks and SUVs..
  20. In the US, though, we usually only get one bodystyle per model from the US automakers....
  21. Went out to lunch today...saw a silver Porsche Carrera GT, a 993 Carrera 4, and 2 current-style M5s (one black, one gray)...lots of cool cars in Scottsdale.
  22. I'm spending $50-60 a week or so now, which isn't bad at all...I figure it's about 2 gallons a day to get to work and back (about 19 miles to work, 19 mpg). Now if I could a reasonably sized and well-equipped car (i.e. something like a CTS diesel) that gets 40 mpg or better, then I'd consider something smaller than my Jeep for my next daily driver...
  23. I definitely want to check out Atlanta some day...I've only been through the airport about 10 years ago once and recall going around it on the freeway in family trips in the '80s..Memphis is on my list also, I'm interested in checking it out for it's music history and food... about the only part of the South (and it's, IMHO, very different from the rest of the South) that I know very well is the Miami area and the Florida Keys (lived there 6 years).
  24. Since a lot of the V6s will probably be fleeted, an automatic makes sense. The more I see of the Challenger, the more I'm liking it..it really stands out amongst the sea of FWD generics of today...it's been a loooooooooong time since Chrysler has had a stylish, RWD 4 seat coupe, in mild or performance variations.
  25. Kind of an end-of-quarter tradition.
