  1. Sales and profits mean nothing when your vehicles are falling apart. Will the people that are having problems with their Toyotas now be so quick to purchase one on the next cycle? Toyota has the issue that many of its sales jumps have been in the last few years...new owners that hold no brand loyalty and probably bought one for the gas mileage and perception of quality. Burn them once, and they probably won't come back the next time around.
  2. Some people were saying over at another board that it's oddly suspicious that BP is now in crisis mode over these pipes despite the billions in profits that should have been going toward preventative maintenance. Personally, if the prices go up to $4/gallon, I don't think we'll ever see them below $3 again. It's all about conditioning us to accept it now so we won't rattle the cage so much when they jack the prices up again.
  3. That's just awesome... Oh well, good thing I'm on my last week of work before school so I won't be making 30 mile round trip commutes any more.
  4. It'll take days to shut it down...not to replace the pipe.
  5. For anyone interested, here's part 2 of the column on how it will affect us here in the US. http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Inves...llHitUsToo.aspx
  6. The Japanese version of the Corolla that is being released in December. Is it just me, or does the white one look like a Mercury Milan?
  7. I've shopped at the Mall of the Bluffs dozens of times before! I think I have an idea which restroom it was too. Probably some punks from IWAC that did it!
  8. I know the Quad Cities would love it.
  9. 34% overall decline from July 2005, but Fusion posted best month ever and is now selling about 1000 short of Focus levels. The Milan and Zephyr are also doing pretty well. Retail sales up 7% compared with June. Over at BON, Igor said the Hermosillo plant has reached capacity, so 14K a month will pretty much be the level the Fusion is stuck at until they start building additional units somewhere else. http://media.ford.com/article_display.cfm?...5&make_id=trust
  10. Well, I decided to break out the old drawing pencil and do a quick interpretation sketch based on the spy photos:
  11. Blame the World Wide Web. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LV06_moDqSw...thian%20leather
  12. A gold-encrusted Cordoba with an extra helping of rich Corinthian leather
  13. Wasn't this the one that Toyota was trying to be hush-hush about by posting a letter to owners through an FJ Cruiser enthusiast site?
  14. HS Buddy: "This thing got a V8?" Me: "Uhh...yeah...minus two cylinders" --------- And recently said by one of my co-workers: "At least my car doesn't look like a black golf ball." (referring to my extensive hail damage)
  15. Actually, I agree with Croc...I do think there is a direct relationship between cost and quality. I used to buy cheap jeans from a store called Rue 21 and from Old Navy...you know, when they had the $20 deals and all that (sometimes Rue 21 was even down to $17). Yet, all my jeans from there would start getting holes in the knees after six months and, worse for me, the fabric would shrink after a few washes so that I would end up with floodwaters. Then I started buying from American Eagle and noticed that the jeans didn't shrink and I could wear them for a couple years before they started getting getting worn. Most of my AE jeans were retired because I outgrew them, not because they wore out. There was a definite difference in the quality of the fabic as well. I also have a pair of Arizona jeans that have held up well, look good, and are among the most comfortable pair I have ever had. And I only paid $30.
  16. Not a fan of the front end or the car. Pontiac doesn't need another rebage...we're not in the 80s anymore. Hopefully GM's return to profitability will put a final nail in the coffin to badge jobs like this.
  17. Perfect description...I couldn't put the words to it before. There's a store here that has awesome fitting shirts called Express (not sure if it's a chain), but it's a checking account cleaner...
  18. Turned 22 a couple months ago.
  19. I usually wear faded jeans, flip flops, and a T-shirt (university, automotive, band-related, etc). Sometimes I'll wear polos or a long-sleeved over-shirt with the sleeves rolled up, but most of the time I'm pretty laid back. I have the hardest damn time finding clothes that fit properly though...why is why I have to go to certain stores. American Eagle usually fits me pretty well, but Old Navy....$h! (one-size-fits-all mentality there). The problem is that I'm tall and skinny (6'4", 170 lbs), so shirts are always too wide and short for me. I've never stepped foot in A&F, but sometimes I'll buy from the Buckle, Hollister, or Aeropostle...but I usually go for the stuff on sale. You'll never catch me in emo clothing...period.
  20. Yuck...Nissan normally makes pretty attractive looking cars, but this is a fugly shape. It looks like someone took a Maxima and smooshed it in a vice grip.
  21. Fix the rear handle already! Otherwise, not too shabby...
  22. Yet another... http://www.nyse.com/interface/jsp/NHDetail...isdowjones=true
  23. These sound great...someone down in Lexington, take some pics when you get the chance!

    HOT!

It's broken 100 for the past three days in a row without a drop of rain in site. There's a glass stairwell I have to climb to get up to my car on the 3rd level of the parking garage, and I swear it gets to about 150 in there...there's no ventilation at all, and it's on the south side of the building. You feel like you're suffocating in that thing. Eastern Iowa got a dumping of rain today, but we're still bone dry. Humid, but bone dry.
  25. Let's make a Toyota recall ticker and put it on the front page.
