Yep, I don't stop with hair metal. Metallica, Megadeth, Metal Church, Warrant (the German one), Judas Priest, Ozzy, Iron Maiden, Dio, Warlock, Queensryche, Sanctuary, Savatage, Flotsam & Jetsam, Armored Saint, Accept, Saxon, Testament, Anthrax, Helloween, and Pantera are my heavier guys that I also listen to. I've never really gotten into black metal and all that...Testament is about the heaviest I go...I'm just not a fan of all the morbid lyrics.

I like them up through Adrenalize, but then they start to lose me after that. I haven't really heard Euphoria, so I won't comment on it...but I didn't like what I heard of Slang and X. Adrenalize is a good album though. I haven't fully heard Retro Active yet either, but one of the songs I heard sounded like old Def Leppard (I think it was She's So Tough), so I'm hoping the rest of the album is that way.

Never heard of Mitch Malloy before, but I'll see if there are any of his CDs used at Hastings the next time I'm there. I have Winger, In the Heart of the Young, and Pull. Many say Pull is their best album, but I still think it's the debut, although Pull is really good. One of the things I've noticed about most 80s bands is that their 90s albums tend to suck really bad, but 'Pull' sounds exactly like old Winger...they still keep the big sound. I listened to some Asia sample clips and didn't realize they were the ones who did the song "Heat of the Moment." For some reason, I always thought Asia was new wave or something...but they aren't too bad! I may have to look into them a little more too. I used to listen to modern rock when I was in 8th grade/early high school years (Staind, Korn, Papa Roach, etc) but kinda grew out of it when I discovered Motley Crue and Metallica. I remember a time when I used to think 80s rock was weird, but now it's my favorite genre. There's something about rock before about 1994/1995 that I just like better than what's being put out today. Even the early grunge stuff was pretty decent...I like stuff from Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Stone Temple Pilots. But everything new that has come out seems to lack attitude...the rock n' roll rebelliousness of the past is gone. The guitar is pretty much extinct. Then there's bands with the damn growling vocals. A few of the post-'95 rock bands that I respect are Incubus, Collective Soul, The Deftones, Godsmack, Filter, and Fuel...much of the rest is derivitive.

Europe was better on their first two albums before they went commercial with The Final Countdown. There are some killer songs on "Wings of Tomorrow" such as the part 2 1/2 minutes into Lyin' Eyes when the guitarist just goes nuts. However, later songs like "Rock the Night" are really, really bad...the video is even worse. Danger Danger would've been as big as Def Leppard if they had released their debut a few years earlier...they came at a bad time in the music biz. I know a lot of people don't like Dokken, but I've always been a big fan of them. I have the first four studio albums, Beast from the East, and their rare tracks from a '79 demo. I also have "Hell to Pay" which is a pretty disappointing album. The problem with Dokken today is Don's attitude...he's still bitching about how grunge took over, yet it's 2006...time to get over it and move on. John Levin is a decent guitarist, but the Dokken of today is lame compared to the one of old. I agree with you on Ratt N' Roll...one of the best greatest hits. Great White is a great band too, but sadly the main reason most probably know of them today is from the club fire in Rhode Island a couple years ago. They took blues rock and fused it with metal to create a sound unlike most other bands of the time. Their first album is highly-underrated raw rock n' roll. Tesla is in the same vein as Great White in that they were more straight ahead rock rather than glam. Tesla is honest blue collar rock. Part of the reason Tesla still did well into the grunge years was because they avoided the glammed up route that most bands of the time took. My favorite album is the Great Radio Controversey...there are so many excellent songs on there. Stryper is a little too God-happy for me (I only have a couple of their songs), but the song To Hell with the Devil is a good one. WINGER KICKS ASS. I know it's not really cool to like Winger, but I don't care...all three of their albums are top notch pop metal. From power ballads to straight ahead rockers, they have it all. Headed for a Heartbreak is one of the best songs they ever wrote IMHO. When I saw RATT, it was with Jizzy Pearl (he did a good job too, BTW). Ratt is one of my favorite bands because I never get tired of their songs. Most of them have semi-cheesy lyrics, but Warren DeMartini and Robin Crosby (RIP) are amazing guitarists.

Giuffria and House of Lords rock. I didn't find out about them until a couple months ago when a friend sent me some of their albums, but they have a great sound and a great vocalist. "Metallic Blue" is a great song to cruise to on the highway with the windows down. Kix is a great band too...I have Midnite Dynamite and Blow My Fuse, plus a few songs off the debut album. "RED light, GREEN light...T-N-T!!"

When I was younger, there was this old metal truss bridge on a county highway here that we were approaching. As we passed by, I my mom and I noticed that the guardrail had been smashed through and down at the bottom in the river was a smashed up 80s Camaro. This was before cell phones and all that so we finished driving out to my grandma's house and called the sheriff's department, which informed us that they had already responded to the scene. In the paper the next day, there was an article about a 20-something year old kid that had commited suicide by driving off the bridge. It's still kinda haunting to drive by that bridge today because I still have memories of that Camaro lying down there in the river bed. I still don't understand why people would rather end it all than try to work things out.

I have music by all the following hair bands (note: some aren't true hair bands, but they all kinda fit under that 80s metal sound so I'm putting them in) Ace Frehley (his solo years in the late 80s), Antix, Anvil, Arcade, Bad English, Badlands, Bang Tango, Blue Murder, Bon Jovi, Bonfire, Bonham, Britny Fox, Bullet Boys, Cats in Boots, Cinderella, Damn Yankees, Danger Danger, Dare Force, David Lee Roth, Def Leppard, Dokken, Don Dokken, Europe, Every Mother's Nightmare, Extreme, Faster Pussycat, Firehouse, Giuffria, Great White, Guns N' Roses, Hanoi Rocks, Heart, Helix, House of Lords, Hurricane, Kidd Blue, Kik Tracee, King Kobra, KISS, Kix, Krokus, LA Guns, Lillian Axe, Lion, The Loudness, Love-Hate, Lynch Mob, Motley Crue, Mr. Big, Night Ranger, Poison, Quiet Riot, Ratt, Rox Diamond, Sammy Hagar, Scorpions, Slaughter, Skid Row, Smashed Gladys, Spectre General, Starship (I would kinda consider them a hair band), Steelheart, Stryper, Sweet Cheater, Surrender, Tesla, Trixter (almost ashamed to say so), Twisted Sister, Vain, Van Halen, Warlock, Warrant, Waysted, White Lion, Whitesnake, Wildside, Winger, XYZ, Y&T, and Zebra ...yes, I have a sh*tload of obscure music on my computer. I just picked up Ratt's "Out of the Cellar" at the store the other day...I've been looking for it forever, even though I already have most of the songs off that album. I'm a big Ratt fan and that album is a classic...probably one of my favorite albums of '84. It's one of my desert island discs. The great thing about Ratt was all the dual guitar action they had going on, and their solos always kicked ass...I'm thinking of "Scene of the Crime" right now. I saw them a couple summers ago at an outdoor concert with Warrant, Dokken, LA Guns, Slaughter, and Tesla. Ratt went on right before Dokken and completely blew them away. Dokken was good back in the day when they had Lynch, but they've gone downhill since then.

Thanks for all the b-day messages...this is the first chance I've had to post on C&G in a week.

It looks fine...just as mean as the Camaro. Build it. If this car was badged as a Plymouth 'Cuda, I'd take it over both a Camaro and Mustang.

Well, I'm absent from the site for a week and come back to find this diddy of a post. Anyway, thanks to all the mods that are keeping this site afloat with funds and countless hours of work that we members never really think about. I've been here for almost three years now, and I'd like to see C&G continue to be the best source for GM news on the web.

Our oil dollars are supporting projects in the Middle Eastern city of Dubai like: Rooftop tennis courts Indoor ski slopes in the middle of the desert And insanely tall skyscraper proposals I'm all for E85!

Charger, that picture is awesome! I thought that was your school picture until I read a little further down! Here's a couple of my most recent, taken before we all headed off for the summer. Even though I'm 6'4", the other guy in the pic is 6'10", and he makes me look short!

The firm I'm at does commercial/institutional mostly. It's a smaller office of about 15 people, with about 50 in the main office. When I went there for the job interview, everyone was friendly and I actually know two of the people there since they were ISU students (one was my digital media TA). It sounds like I will be doing a little fieldwork, model building, and some Autocad/Sketchup work. I'm leaving later today for the place I'm living, and then I start Wednesday morning. Haha, I remember all those Mountain Dew nights too...all too well. Before my final presentation a couple weeks ago, I stayed up nearly all night two nights in a row (1 hour of sleep max) and my hands were literally shaking the morning of the review. I crashed for a solid 15 hour block after that. The reason I won't be able to get on the internet isn't the dailup as much as it will tie up the phone line of the family I'm staying with for the summer. My dad was saying something about Verizon offering wireless internet that I might look into. I have wireless on my computer, it's just a problem of finding service for it.

Yeah, so many throw them under the hair metal category...Guns N' Roses was never a hair band. They may have had big hair early in their career, but their music is much more varied and different than your standard "booze, cars, and women" glam anthems...instead, it was gritty tales of life on the streets. The Guns were their own genre.I hope Axl finishes Chinese Democracy before I'm in a nursing home so I can at least enjoy it without needing hearing aids.

I got a summer internship in Des Moines, but the place I'm staying only has dial-up internet, so I doubt I will be using the internet much if at all this summer. It's going to be an adjustment because I usually check C&G every night. So if I go up missing here for a while, that's where I am...without the internet. About the only chance I'll get to go online is when I go home or if I drive up to ISU to visit friends up there who have it. So as my buddy would say, "Welp, schee ya!"...but I'll be back in full force in August! Hopefully I don't miss out on some good spies of the Silverado and Sierra.

Here's some video caught by an amateur photographer of a Honda Odyssey that burst into flames on the Long Island Expressway in New York a week ago. If you watch the video closely, the fire appears to be electrical since it starts in the cabin rather than under the hood (the headlights are on for a while). The mother and toddler that were riding in the van got out unharmed. Video Link http://www.dslreports.com/r0/download/1005...f2a/4-30-06.zip http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,16051517

LOL, true. I'd say they're probably more hard rock than anything...same with AC/DC.
-
Most of that list is metal, but it needs to be broken down into categories: Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, etc...Speed/Thrash metal Twisted Sister, Motley Crue, Skid Row, etc...Glam Metal Def Leppard, Scorpions, Quiet Riot, etc...Pop Metal Guns N' Roses...Sleaze Metal Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Dio, KISS, etc....Classic Metal I have a hard time calling SlipKnot, SOAD, Marilyn Manson, Korn, RATM, AC/DC, Alice in Chains, and Deep Purple "metal." SlipKnot, SOAD, and Korn fall under Nu Metal, which is far removed from metal's roots. Marilyn Manson is more industrial than anything. RATM is a rap/rock hybrid, and Alice in Chains is grunge. AC/DC and Deep Purple may have influenced metal, but neither of them really feel like a metal band to me.

I'm with ya, Fly. I'm not really a fan of minimalist European and Asian designs. I like my bold chrome grilles and RWD proportions. It bothers me when people want to bring Holden Statemens over and slap a Buick badge on it because it's just an Australian car with a Buick badge....there's nothing "Buick" about it. The Chrysler 300 is such a success because it's an excessive, overwrought sedan brimming with horsepower and all the other goodies that made American cars legends in the past. I'm sure if Ford had brought out the 427, it would be seeing the same success as well. Today when I came home, I noticed our neighbors now have an early 80s Delta 88 sitting in their driveway. That thing is in beautiful shape and has more character in one half of the grille than there is in some entire sedans today.

On a related note, the top 100 Metal albums of all time. http://www.metal-rules.com/polls/top100/top100.htm I pretty much agree with these guys. There's a few that I personally would probably change around, but overall it seems like a well-rounded list. Slayer has always been a little too hardcore for me, so I wouldn't really know how it ranks, but Master of Puppets is easily the quintessential metal album. I do have a hard time considering AC/DC a metal band (they're hard rock to me), but they played a role in the development of metal music. I'm glad to see Operation: Mindcrime made it near the top (#11)...it's a highly underrated album.

Sweet ride! I think the color looks great...I definitely prefer the Sky to the Solstice. Congrats and have fun with it!

My favorite 'Cuda has always been the '71. I like how the grille is split up and comes to a point at the center, with recessed dual headlights on either side. I also like the proportions more than the '69. '72 is my second favorite year.

April 2006 Sales: Hyundai Motor America
mustang84 replied to VenSeattle's topic in 2006 Sales Archive
If you take out the Sonata, Hyundai really isn't doing that hot. Everything else is down besides the Azera.
