April 2006 Sales: Toyota Motor Company
mustang84 replied to sciguy_0504's topic in 2006 Sales Archive
Did they goof up on the Camry figure? It says 40,435 sales for April 2005, and 40,203 sales for April 2006. Unless it's new math or something, that's a decrease 232 cars...so how exactly does that equate to a 3.3% gain? Edit: I found another goof up...who's doing the math at Toyota? Last I checked, 9314 minus 9109 = decrease of 205, which does not equal a 1.6% gain. -
FUEL ECONOMY RULES IN FORD'S APRIL SALES RESULTS * Ford's new mid-size sedans and hybrids achieve record sales. * April sales totaled 262,722, down 7 percent. Cars up 8 percent; trucks down 15 percent. * Lincoln Mercury dealers report higher retail sales for the second month in a row. * Land Rover dealers report record sales for the seventh consecutive month. Download PDF Soundbites: April 2006 Sales DEARBORN, Mich., May 2 - Stronger demand for vehicles offering higher fuel economy helped Ford Motor Company offset lower demand for trucks and SUVs. Ford's April sales totaled 262,722, down 7 percent, but car sales were up 8 percent and truck sales were down 15 percent. Within trucks, crossover utilities (CUVs) posted higher sales and the Escape and Mariner hybrid utility models had record sales. Higher car sales were paced by the company's new mid-size sedans – Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr. Combined sales totaled 19,548 in April as each of the sedans posted record monthly sales. "The Fusion, Milan and Zephyr continue to surprise us on the upside," said Al Giombetti, president Ford and Lincoln Mercury marketing and sales. "These new, fuel-efficient cars are helping our dealers to retain owners and capture new ones. We never have been in a better position to compete for customers in an environment of rising gasoline prices." Combined sales for Ford's CUVs (Ford Escape and Freestyle and Mercury Mariner) registered a sales increase of 8 percent in April and the Escape and Mariner hybrid models achieved record monthly sales. Sales of the Escape hybrid were 3,039 and sales of the Mariner hybrid were 381. Ford will expand its CUV portfolio later this year with two all-new CUVs, the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX. Lincoln and Mercury posted higher retail sales for the second month in a row as sales of the Milan and Zephyr sedans and Lincoln Mark LT full-size pickup offset lower sales of discontinued products (Mercury Sable and Lincoln LS). Land Rover dealers reported record sales for April and year-to-date. Sales totaled 3,736 for the month (up 19 percent) and 15,035 year-to-date (up 30 percent). April was the seventh consecutive month of record sales for Land Rover. Millions expected to join walkout

I have yet to see one on the road as well. I saw the dealer ones sitting around campus, but I haven't seen a sold one actually driving on the road yet.

University of Iowa. If I remember hearing right, they have the largest percentage of students with AIDS out of any college in the country. U of I is also a lot more liberal than ISU...here we have a mix of liberal and conservative due to our school's agricultural and engineering background, but over there it's almost exclusively liberal. They're also our biggest rival...so of course they're all a bunch of Hawkeye-worshipping weirdos. Sadly, my sister is joining the dark side by going there next fall...

Wilson Toyota stuck one of these on campus for our annual VEISHEA event...the ISU PD were using them to hand out free t-shirts and stuff to improve PR relations with the students so a riot repeat of the one in 2004 wouldn't happen. In general, there wasn't really any reaction to them. The night before when the ISU PD held a little gathering at our dorm to give away free stuff, they told us to look for the "yellow mini-HUMMERs...I think they're called a Toyota FJ-something"...her exact words.

Two days ago, I saw a Chrysler Intrepid. I figured it must be a Canada thing, because I've never heard of it before. It's basically a Dodge Intrepid with Chrysler emblems and different rims. I've also seen an AMC Eagle around here a few times. Some guy always parks in the ROTC parking lot with a baby blue '79 Accord hatchback. Before this year, I had never seen a 70's Honda in my life. Also in the ROTC parking lot, someone has an orange International Scout. Saw my first Plymouth Scamp about a month ago.

If I was in your shoes, I'd personally hold back on the BMW. I know it's probably a lot cooler and more unique than other stuff on the road, but fixing it is going to take a good chunk of pocket change. Maybe it will be flawless, but I know someone here with a 3-series, and he's sunk more money into it than he wanted to. I don't know about Brookville, but around here BMW dealers are few and far between and it's hard to find a shop that knows how to work on a Beamer. When I was 17 after my first Lumina got hit, I was so set on getting a 5.0 Mustang. I showed my dad and he tried to tell me again and again that insurance is going to be rough and I didn't need a V8, but then I always argued back at him that he had a Firebird when he was in high school. Somewhere along the way, I wised up and ended up getting my Lumina. It's nothing special, but college is the worst time to have a nice car because it can get dinged and scratched and I hardly drive it anyway. If you're really set on getting the BMW, make sure you have the means to pay for the insurance and maintenance, because it's not going to be cheap.

My 1990 Lumina hit 210,000 miles before we got rid of it, and my current Lumina broke 100,000 miles a couple months ago and still purrs like a kitten.

I've seen that video before, but it's still hilarious each time..."booyah!" My uncle had an '83 Aries coupe that I almost got as my school car. I'M GLAD I DIDN'T. That thing was always breaking down...one time we had to coast a quarter mile down the hill to work because the engine died. The dash vibrated, the headliner drooped about 4 inches in the middle, and the radio sucked. The passenger door let out a pleasant grinding metal sound when opened, and numerous trim pieces were just hanging on for dear life. When I was 15 my other uncle, who owns a used car dealership, tried to sell me that it was a sporty car because it was a coupe and had bucket seats. Wire wheels and an anemic 2.2L with retirement home friendly sheet metal don't make a sporty car.

None, I can't afford to buy new now...but in the near future I plan on buying a new GM or Ford product, depending on what's out at the time (probably 2008/09).

My dad's '86 Cutlass Supreme. It was a nice car that had too short of a life due to a poorly located, low-lying parking lot and heavy rain causing the flood of 1993. The waters went up to the dash, so the car was pretty much ruined. It's probably rusting in a junkyard somewhere now.

I think that "one girl" is something that comes suddenly and unexpectedly. Someone gave me some advice a while back that you shouldn't go around looking for someone, because most of the time you will just end up wasting time. Many people find that special someone randomly and at the time they were least expecting it. The girl that I've been hanging out with recently was just someone I randomly happened to meet at a party. I wasn't looking for anyone at the time...she just happened to be there, and everything has been falling into place since then. One thing is to keep a positive outlook. I've been single for a few years now because I tend to be picky toward girls and really haven't had the time for a relationship, even though I've wanted one for a while now. Just be yourself. The saying that nice guys finish last isn't true later in life...it seems like girls want the daring, outgoing guys in high school and through college, but later on they want a nice guy they can settle down with...at least that's what I've heard.

Best bet is to download HijackThis, run it, and then post your log over at the Tom Coyote forums. They are trained to deal with all kinds of viruses/spam/malicious programs and have always solved my issues. More instructions can be found at those forums. Don't try to delete the stuff yourself...run the program and then post the log, and they will give you further instructions on what to do.

I'm not really a shoe-phile. I mostly wear my Adidas sneakers or my flip flops. 1 pair of white Adidas Superstars with blue stripes 1 pair of old white Adidas Superstars (outside/work shoes) 1 pair of brown leather flip flops 1 pair of Doc Martens that I hardly fit into anymore 1 pair of black dress shoes 1 pair of Sketchers brown boots that I never wear anymore because they're too clunky

You mean this one?

Personally, I'm getting tired of Toyota advertising. We get it already...your goal is to be #1. Thanks for reminding us every time we pick up a newspaper or turn on the TV. We'll throw you a nice party with cake and ice cream if it happens. In the meantime, cut the spin and just build your damn cars.

Funny thing, but my similar experience. A couple summers ago my boss, who has bought Cadillacs pretty much all his life, was talking to me about how nice those Honda Odysseys are. I was being nice and just nodding my head, but in my mind I was thinking "you dolt, you drive an STS...why are you even looking at Odysseys?" Well, it turns out the Odyssey was what his son was considering since they had a kid on the way, but being a life-long GMer in the conservative Midwest and talking about how nice those Hondas are, it worries me that GM is losing a lot of traditional customer base.On the other hand, in my hometown at least, everyone that drives a brand new Honda or Toyota is a blue hair. Even here in Ames, a good many of the people I see in Camrys are the upper tier of the baby boomers who are now in their 50s pushing 60. It seems like Toyota is wooing the older generations, but the younger generations are still a mixed bag between imports and domestics. That's why GM really needs to concentrate on attracting the young market...because while they may not have the money now for a purchase, they will eventually.

Straight from Toyota Nation...the whole transmission had to be replaced, and it sounded like a couple other posters were having the same issue. http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=128303
