Definitely the humidity...dry heat really doesn't bother me. Yesterday it was 82 F with a 75% humidity out and it was just awful. And when it gets up in the 90s or triple digits with 70% humidity, you really have to be careful; a lot of elderly without AC are rushed to the hospital on days like that. If I ever leave the midwest, I won't miss the humidity.

The band Nitro makes me laugh because it's so incredibly bad. Look up the song "Freight Train" on YouTube to see what I'm talking about. Like I said to a friend earlier tonight, the singer's hair was probably the leading cause of ozone depletion in the late 80s. As for stuff that annoys me, pretty much any emo/pop punk band. In my book, the Offspring's "Ignition" was one of the last true punk albums. Too many bands that claim to be punk today have whiny vocalists, and the whole emo scene just gets on my nerves. The college indie scene also gets pretty annoying. I also really dislike modern hip hop. I'm not a big hip hop fan in the first place, but the music used to be real--before all the rappers became millionaires and rapped about their crib, gold chains, and Escalade rollin on 24s. Modern rap is as much of a joke today as hair metal became in the early 90s when any third rate band could get signed.

Were the folks at Friendly Ford actually friendly? Nice car...congrats Satty!

Being a lazy SOB for a change. The firm is giving us Monday off, so I get a four day weekend. I'm golfing tomorrow with some friends from high school, and then watching the fireworks Tuesday night before I head back to Des Moines.

Egad. That's not the way to treat a Bandit front end.

That actually looks decent. One of my biggest complaints with Toyota is how the cars always look awkwardly top-heavy with tiny wheels, but this Corolla design seems to have solved that. I'm interested to see how the sedan turns out.

Wow, just wow. That is bad. That front end ranks up there with the Aztek for ugliness-factor. The rear end looks like they took two separate vehicles and overlayed them on top of one another. Honda design has gone from bland to downright ugly.

The chrome bar with brand logo centered bit is as old as dirt itself. Mercury was doing it in the mid 90s.1998 Mercury Mystique 1996 Mercury Sable 1995 Grand Marquis

That was pimp, yo. The best part is when he smacks the curb. *thwack thwack thwack*

My name is Nick, and while I don't actually own a RWD vehicle, I am an avid RWD enthusiast and plan on my next car being RWD. My dad owns two Corvettes (a '68 and a '78), my grandpa owns a 2000 Crown Victoria LX and a 2005 Grand Marquis Premier, and my mom drives a 2004 Explorer XLT. I was probably on course to be driving a 1986 Cutlass Supreme, but alas...it was caught in the Flood of '93 and replaced with a 1990 Lumina, which was my first car. I now drive a 1994 Lumina and long for the days of no torque steer, burnt rubber, and obnoxious squealing tires to wake the neighbors at 3 AM. In my desperation (and after plenty of painkillers), I made this photoshop of my car doing a RWD burnout. It's sad. I know. I'm a poor college student stuck with a FWD unibody V6 car. Please help me. Oh, and can I join your club?

Fuselage Chryslers rock. It's sad that the great Chrysler Corporation as seen in this video has now been reduced to hiding its American heritage behind a German facade per the request of ol' Dieter Zetsche.

Alice Cooper - Hell is Living Without You Blue Murder - Out of Love The '94 version of Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer"...much darker than the original Bruce Springsteen - My Hometown...for such a simple song, it's pretty haunting, especially for those of us in the Rust Belt Cinderella - Don't Know What You Got ('Til It's Gone) Def Leppard - Love Bites Deftones - Fireal Don Dokken - When Love Finds a Fool Doro - Give Me a Reason Dream Theater - Scene Nine: Finally Free Filter - I'm Not the Only One Giuffria - Say It Ain't True Great White - Old Rose Motel Kix - Don't Close Your Eyes Madonna - Live to Tell Megadeth - In My Darkest Hour Queensryche - The Killing Words Queen - Who Wants to Live Forever? Savatage - Summer's Rain Skid Row - Quicksand Jesus Smashing Pumpkins - Soma Warlock - Für Immer Most of the songs off Warrant's "Dog Eat Dog" album. It's an overlooked gem of the 90s, but it's kinda depressing...almost like they were coming off their high during the late 80s. Wildside - Kiss This Love Goodbye Winger - Headed for a Heartbreak XYZ - After the Rain

Those Fit commercials get on my nerves! They're even worse than the annoying Focus commercial from a couple years ago. I was reading a Car and Driver from last month and splayed across two pages was a obnoxiously bright Fit ad with the text "1.5 Liters of Micro Muscle Fury!" Followed by: "Grip the wheel! Rev it up! All systems Go! Feel the compressed fury of the rip-roarin', lean burnin' friction fightin', 1.5-liter V-TEC power plant! A 16-valve, 4-cylinder dynamo! Punch it! Let the gas-hongs eat your dust!" Like the guy in the article above said, the bullsh*t meter of the 18-34 age range is pretty high, and this ad seemed geared more toward video game addicted 14 year-olds than people who are actually old enough to purchase a car.

I'm not in favor of this alliance, either. I have a bad feeling that GM would only end up getting the ass end of the deal. I want to see GM remain autonomous...and 20% stake is quite a bit. Something stinks about this proposed alliance. Say no, GM.

All of these put me in a pretty good mood Surrender - "Never" Slaughter - "Gave Me Your Heart" Ratt - "Round and Round" Quiet Riot - "Slick Black Cadillac" Kix - "Layin' Rubber" Judas Priest - "Johnny B. Goode" Journey - "Only the Young" John Parr - "Running Away with You" (song at the end of the movie Running Man) Guns N' Roses - "Get in the Ring" Great White - "Stick It" Giuffria - "Dance" Firehouse - "Hold Your Fire" Extreme - "Teacher's Pet" Europe - "The Final Countdown" (gotta go with Sixty8 on this one...everytime I hear those rockets fire up, it brings back memories of late nights at studio last year when they blared this song at midnight the night before a project was due) Def Leppard - "Animal" Danger Danger - "Rock America" Corey Hart - "Waiting for You" Cats in Boots - "Shotgun Sally" Cheap Trick - "Mighty Wings" Bon Jovi - "99 in the Shade" Winger - "In the Heart of the Young" Van Halen - "Hot for Teacher" and "Top of the World"

I love thunderstorms. Living in the Midwest, I get to see them all the time. There's nothing better than watching a huge line of thunderheads roll across the plains.

The old '90 Euro made it up to 210,000, and the current '94 Euro is at 110,000 right now. The '90 as far as I know didn't have very many issues over its life...I know we replaced a water pump when I had it, but the 3100 was rock solid. The reason we got rid of it was because the eletrical system started dying out and that car was in bad shape since it had been sideswiped by a semi a couple years earlier (and we did a shoddy job of bondo and painting). But my dad said it was one of the most reliable cars he has owned. The current Lumina is holding up well too...I had some issues with the engine idling a little rough about 6 months ago, but I took it in and they got it fixed and it's smooth again. So they've held up extremely well...never had a problem with them not starting up on a cold January morning. It was also a 3100. I like the Monte because it's one of the last big personal coupes. Now that all the Cutlasses, Marks, and Eldorados are gone...there's not much left to choose from these days. I was riding in my friend's '99 Monte last night, and there just something cool about sitting low in a car with doors about as long as a Geo Metro's wheelbase.
-
I'd go with the LaCrosse or the Monte Carlo personally, mostly because I'm not really a fan of the current Grand Prix's sheet metal and the Malibu would probably be a little too small for me (6'4" here)...but all of those are decent choices. I was really against the '06 Monte for a while, but seeing them out on the streets, the new sheet metal on the front looks pretty good in person. Especially in SS trim. If I remember correctly, isn't your current car a W-body Regal coupe?
-
Nice Olds, Sixty8! This is the first I've heard about it! That thing sure is a beast...and I noticed that the windshield wipers do the same thing as my Lumina, where they kinda cross over each other...you don't really see that on cars very often. What year is your Super 88?

There was some dipwad kid on the freeway yesterday with a new Acura RSX with a fart can and Type-R badges on the back that was going slow in the fast lane, so I moved over to the lane on my right and began to pass him. I went around him (giving him PLENTY of space), but his boy-racer attitude kicked in and he started speeding up and riding my tail for about a mile. No idea why either...but I started getting pissed so I slowed down to about 55...then gave him the finger and took off. He tried to be a bonehead again and ride my car's tail but got caught behind some slow merging traffic. What is it with Type-R badges and asshole drivers?
-
Not sure if this has been posted already since I haven't been around these parts too often lately, but this was in response to Friedman's column on GM recently.

I just bought the original 'Gone in 60 Seconds' collector edition DVD. The '74 version is 100x better than the one that came out a few years ago...and the chase scene is 45 minutes of pure glee for an auto enthusiast. There were so many cool cars on the road back then...it almost makes me wish I could go back in time.

"Ooh, double vision, I need my double vision It takes me out of my head, takin me out of my head I get my double vision, oh, seeing double double"

I missed your comment the other day...but I've never really gotten into Motorhead. I only have three of their songs so I don't really have a wide spectrum of their music, but I've just never really been a fan of Blackie's voice (I think that's his name?). I dunno...maybe I'll have to give them more of a try sometime.

It all depends on my mood...sometimes I'm in the mood for lighter stuff, and sometimes I'm in the mood for heavy metal. Thrash/speed metal tends to make me work very fast when I'm in studio doing frantic last minute work, but sometimes when you're just in a carefree happy mood, you need the poppier stuff. I'd say I'm a bigger fan of hair metal though.Third Stage by Boston is a great disc. My dad has it, but I haven't been able to find it for about a year. Very futuristic-sounding...it's very fitting of the times.
