What exactly does "not working" mean? Giving wrong readings or just not working at all? Is it still under warranty? This doesn't seem like a common problem, even though I don't know a lot of background on Impalas. They're generally pretty problem-free.

The regular Denali should at least be in production now, since the regular Yukons started in January and there has been at least one dealer offering one up on Ebay. As for the longer models, the actual chart says this: http://fleetnews.gmcanada.com/news_flash/e...shtml#TopOfPage ...but I did already here from a few people that they had went and seen a new Suburban at their dealer, so I think they started production on those a bit earlier than what is stated on that page. I do wonder too, from anyone in the know, what specific dates they've heard, particularly since GM moved some of the later intros up a bit more.

How come that was actually said so much back when it was intro'd back then? Pull out any article, and you'll see that it was said how there would never be another Camaro or Firebird, and one of the SSR's missions was to help fill that gap. Always thouhgt it was odd, but it WAS said several times. Either way, it doesn't matter, and there's still so many leftover new examples sitting on lots (even '03s, despite some dealers cutting the price almost in half). and that's never a good thing for a company with so many problems. Cool truck, but money needs to be spent in much better places from now on.

Ahh...no one will miss it, and the ones that are around will at least be more collectible now. I saw a yellow one the other day at a stop sign, and it really was stunning, but "they never did really get the formula right" is dead on. Too heavy, too expensive, too slow (at first), etc., etc. Good riddens, and RIP

I know you're waiting for trinacriabob's response, but I must say, based on a lot of reviews I've read from people with Intrigues who go to try out a Lacrosse as a possible replacement, it always comes out as "okay". Doesn't handle or steer as sporty as the Intrigue did, and also just clearly feels more "Buick" on the road...which is expected, but doesn't help matters as far as comparison. Not really sure about the 3.5L vs. the 3.6L, though. Truthfully, from a purely driving standpoint, I'd say the '04+ Grand Prix is the closest in feel to what an Intrigue is like. Never understood how or why, but it was always the W-body that felt quite "different"...in a very good way.

That's a good argument. BUT, strangely enough, as proven by the 300/Magnum/Charger, the cars themselves were SO hot, some of those people who originally had thought they'd never buy a RWD car for whatever reason completely forgot about it...and just bought one anyway. Of course, some did run into some winter issues, but still love the cars so much, they could care less. Then again, as soon as the AWD models of those cars came out, even that small issue was fixed for a lot of people. Make a RWD car that's outstanding in every way, and it won't matter. Make a half-baked one with no AWD option, and you'll have some issues... I, myself, would take a RWD vehicle ANY day over FWD, and that's with me having several snow/ice days a year. Just a personal preference, and one that I've gotten used to and enjoy.

As long as the AWD is just an option, and the RWD is the basis for a lot of things...I'm good :AH-HA_wink: Well, as long as the styling doesn't turn out pathetic (talking about things other than the Camaro here).

I really like them too, and was seriously considering buying a used one for a while. In July of '99, my grandmother traded in her '92 Grand Prix LE sedan for a '99 Intrigue GX 3.8L that's exactly like pic #2. They came down to visit us just after buying it, and I remember really enjoying riding in it, but now, every time we go back to PA to visit, I always end up driving it. It still only has about 48-50k miles on it, and has had some issues with oil leaking around the pan (happened 3 times, been fixed 3 times), but overall, a great car. Also, probably my favorite part is just how rock solid the thing feels, even hurled over some really bad pavement. Full of cheap plastics--like having the ROUGHEST cut passenger's airbag I've ever seen in a car--but the design inside is very nice, and works well. It's a very sporty drive, and even though the 3.8L doesn't impress me climbing hills (actually, that's what I like least...it seems to die a quick death on a steep hill, unless you plant the pedal in the carpet), it's quite sprightly around town. Still, a very nice car. Actually, if it were still around, and just had an interior with new materials equal to something like a Lucerne, and then was also updated a bit more with some fresh styling details and better performance, it would still be the top W-body.

Cool. Up the performance even more, but add some quality so it doesn't feel as flimsy as a cardboard box inside and out anymore, and things will be good. Actually, while they're at it, I hope a MAJOR refresh is coming ASAP for the Armada and Titan. Right now, they have, by far, some of the worst materials and finish of any new vehicle, and still suffer from lots of rattle, creak, and falling apart issues.

Very, very nice. Those are great small ute's, and I still like them a lot more than some of the newer ones, especially the GM's with their odd steering/suspension and sometimes iffy build quality. My neighbor bought a used '01 Escape XLS V6 and loves it. Good luck with it! :AH-HA_wink:

Oh, wow...almost forgot about that load of crap. Actually, from what I've read, if you bought a '04 model, 10+ trips isn't out of the question...at least until you lemon law it, or just decide to torch it in the driveway out of shear frustration

I've read both good and bad things about the old GM diesels, but regardless, that is one heck of a stunning car! Not exactly good looking from a design perspective, but the condition is A+++

We see the same kind of numbers in Instant MPG mode on our 2wd '04 Suburban. Can cruise steady right around 65, and see it readout 22-23'ish, and hit 24-25'ish a few times in there. The lowest I've dropped it is to 7-8MPG, WOT from a start...but it's always of equal interest to watch it hit 99MPG sometimes on deceleration I've been wondering what some of the new ones readout when in V4 mode, though

Yes, it really is...but after one black truck ('02 Avalanche with a tan interior), that was enough for me, at least until I had a garage to keep it in. Actually, the Chrysler 300M we had before that truck WAS black on black, and while it was beautiful, I couldn't stand the dust & fingerprints that showed up constantly in the interior, despite my efforts. But if you have the time and care enough to keep both inside and outside finishes FLAWLESS, black is the only way to go!

I read this too, though I was kind of expecting it, based on some of the common "first year bugs" I've read a lot about on some owner sites. Still, it just goes to prove that even the "holy grail" of Japanese cars can have a lot of problems too, even if they are all small...doesn't matter, because it still requires another trip to the dealer

Precisely, which is a good thing. I don't think we'll ever again be able to sign on the line for right at $30k for a truck with the same options ours has (though I still think that is all they're worth, even an '07), but it is nice to know that at least the MSRP's aren't so inflated. I guess we'll see over the next couple of years if anything changes that much, but I'd still say, based on the reaction my mother has had to seeing the new ones and wanting one, she'll definately replace the '04 with another. Well, unless she's ready to downsize at that time instead...in which case, as I was almost shocked to hear, a VW of some sort might be in the rankings, according to what she's also said for a while.

The option level should be exactly the same as the LT's, just as in recent years. You are correct, that in '01 and '02, Z71 models kind of had a limited amount of options compared to LT's, but then they changed that in '03+...now, besides outside trim and suspension, a Z71 and LT are identical. That should continue to be true with the new '07s.

I agree. I like softer, thicker cloths...but there's just something odd and "eww" feeling about the Lucerne's cloth. Especially like it would just be disgusting after a few years of use, even with proper care. Odd, but true. Just didn't seem like it would wear well, and a reason why I still like the harder/thinner stuff used in some cars...or at least soft stuff that feels high quality, like that in our Suburban.

I must say, I had an "odd" experience with the Azera too. After going to the auto show, I have tons and tons of those bags with different cars and brands on them. Needed one that I could put my car cover in when not in use, and found the Hyundai one with a big Azera picture on it to fit best...with my father standing right next to me. This ensued, totally unprovoked: Him: "What kind of car is that?" Me: "The new Hyundai Azera--sort of competes with the Avalon or Lucerne. Really nice car, and cheap for what you get." Him: "Now why doesn't GM or someone come out with a design like that? It doesn't really stand out, but it isn't over the top either." Me: "YOU, of all people, like it?" Him: "Well, yeah. It's not ugly and not boring either--just clean and uncluttered, and has that whole low price, long warranty thing." Me: "Wow." I'll admit, I never thought it was all that great looking either, and it really does look like a blend of a few different Hondas and Toyotas, as usual, but the reaction to it seems very good. I was also very impressed with the interior and general feel of quality at the auto show (always am with the Hyundais and Kias), and think it's terrific for the price. Not the boldest or most daring, or even all that exciting, but should attain a pretty strong sales base and make a lot of buyers very happy.

I still like that EXACT interior in the GP a lot more than some other cars, particularly the G6 and the Impala/Monte Carlo. No, all the parts aren't Lexus quality, but it all felt nice to me whenever I'm at an auto show, and I love the layout of the controls. Only problem with the GP is the HORRIBLE back seat, but that's the same for the Lacrosse, so I guess it's just a problem with the older W-bodies in general. But still, I could care less, and would love to have a new white GXP. Matter of fact, here's a car I'd love to have, just like this, plus Navigation:

Just priced some out on KBB.com, and was suprised in a good way: -For a new '07 Suburban 1500 2wd 1LT with all the same options/features as our '04, plus all the new stuff, and even the 20" polished wheels, the MSRP comes in at a couple hundred less than the '04 sticker. -Same for a new '07 Yukon XL SLE, but just a little different option organization and one or two features, plus the 20's, and comes in lower than the Chevy... This looks quite good...the only issue is that it'll probably be some time, if ever, before you could get one of these beauties with $39.5-40.5k MSRP for $30k even like we would pay...and did for the '04... Well, that, and it'd be nice to have the 6-speed and also the Power Liftgate optional on ALL LT models, and not just the top drawer leather-lined ones...I could see keeping it off the LS, but some people do actually like all the features but not the leather
