What should I do? I found a car, but it might not be for sale...
caddycruiser replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in The Lounge
Sounds good. I showed the pics to my '86 Regal LTD driving (he LOVES these cars) brother, and told him a bit of the rundown, and he said a couple grand. But, this is also the person who thinks a lot of cars should be $2 or $3, honestly. Though he also didn't think making something like this your new daily driver was a good idea, either, and that's exactly what his Regal is for--it has a bit less miles but is in great need of a complete engine overhaul, for the oh so great ancient 307. He did also say that "the Pontiacs had really nice interiors", but didn't explain further. I can't imagine too much is different. But really, why not, if you have a garage and such. A car is a car, and not useful unless driven. $3k cash would be good, I think. Interesting car find and then turn of events, ey? -
Here was my poor Cadillac from October '07...seriously, from the impact with the corner of a plastic bumper cover on a Subaru Outback I DID (well, somehow), thought "it would buff right out". The impact, as I was moving forward relatively slowly but impacted on the side felt exactly like a bumper car jostle...until I kept moving forward and heard air coming in the side of the car. Real cars made of metal don't, uh, bump off one another as easily. Subaru plastic bumper cover vs. the side of a Cadillac tank = peeled like an orange at 25mph... Thankfully, somehow, by an act of God, after the wreck I then found someone nearby in PA when I was in school who was parting out TWO Fleetwoods...he got me every single itty bitty and large piece I needed (quarter panel and doors, to the chrome trim), and I delivered the car and the parts to the shop my brother works at. A little blue and red, with parts from another '93 and a '96 mixed in...but well on the way: A month later, wa-la: It now resides happily and garaged with a guy in the Chicago suburbs, so at least this smash up had a happy ending. And, in large part, thanks to the guy in PA I randomly found while searching Ebay, who was the saving grace in fix vs. salvage, with all the parts for cheap.

Nothing cool or special, but a very good choice nonetheless--sounds like he got what he wanted. Should go for a very long time, with little in the way of problems. Actually, he's now up to 485k, at least as of 02/09, and still counting;) Unless something more has changed, he replaced the trans with a salvage one at about the halfway point to now and at the end of last year replaced the engine with a salvage one after 444k. Seems incredible, but all true, and certainly the highest mileage M anywhere.

Maybe a 3rd option will pop up and be better than both of them so far...lower miles, the right powertrain, good condition, etc. You never know I understand the "it's gotta go" feeling, even if I have only been driving, uh, new cars for the past 7 or so months. Sometimes even they HAVE to go, as well.

Hey, tough as nails doesn't even begin to describe those cars...not too unusual, even 2 decades past new in some cases. Beastly but, still, in most ways pretty refined for the dinosaur bones and the later LT1 cars were splendid. I often have wondered what the B/D cars would have been like had they hung around and been updated somewhat like the Crown Vic & Town Car have, with more solid frames, refined suspensions, updated interiors, etc. I was just chatting with my father on Friday, as he still has 1 of 3 with a '93 Fleetwood, and he remarked how he really has not been seeing much of any B/D cars anywhere, anymore. I concurred, as when I do notice them, they certainly standout more now. That reminds me...went to Wal-Mart in Rehoboth and, having parked far out in the lot, there were 3 '93-96 Fleetwoods in the lot, in 2 rows, all at once. What a sight.

I have a desk exactly like that...did you start with a store desk and cut portions off of it? Mine was almost identical, just with more "desk" space towards the back, rounded and angled. A Wal-Mart special, of course. I bought it for compact size but then had to get rid of it because I couldn't stand not being able to put my feet out under it on the floor.

Same here! A light gold one, with one of the upgraded larger wheels, and then...gasp...a chocolate brown cloth (yes, cloth, with the little rivets on the back edge) top. Argh, the local old people and what they beg dealers to do for them on their new cars...

So that's what they call THAT... ...says the Delaware beach living person who obviously thinks of fishing as a foreign concept. At least I now know what that's called the, maybe, once a year I'm on the sand at the right time and see people doing it. Fun memory from years back was a family dog walk on the beach, with a few guys set up surf fishing, and one reeled in a baby shark. THAT was a surprise, both to him and everyone in view.

I'll get on that, along with pictures, soon...I promise. As far as deals, I actually was back up to the dealer I bought my G8 from in Jersey to meet the clear bra guy and have him add more to a few areas and also have my radio reflashed by service, and their sales were CRAZY today. Very small place, but in just the time I was there, an Acadia SLE was delivered & the people drove off with it, an HD Sierra extended cab was prepped and ready to go, a couple walked in to look at Acadias, made a deal, and just waited for the papers and cleaning to be done to drive off in it, another lady came in looking at Acadias and wanted to look at different options, another couple bought a used Rainier, a black G8 base was prepped and picked up, etc., etc. They were dealing and "well, it is the last day of the month" was said more than once, in the midst of happy dealings. Even the owner was relegated to helping touch up clean some cars and install front plate brackets. What a great sight to see, at a dealer;) Despite the awesome financing, it seems like most are still doing rebates and then either bank rate shopping via the dealer or coming ready with CU financing. I wonder what next month deals will be, but this month's stuff seems to have done pretty well and really picked things up mid month onward, from what I gathered talking to some people--even the clear bra guy who said that was when his business jumped up dramatically.

Exactly...Bugatti or an estate with a large collection of high ticket rides? Hah. I've still never seen one of those, even in beach land here where you sometimes can. Just Bentley Continental GT's.

I first saw it on AutoBlog, then Ebay...and am still confused. I forwarded it to my brother who loves those things, and it's just, well, an interesting thing to keep around and not use for 24 years. The conversation about what would be needed to get it even reliably running again was further intriguing...that would be some work. Then when it is, you wouldn't want to drive it for that 4 mile factor...or would you? Don't know. But the bids are crazy, so someone must have an idea for it.

Hence getting one when I did, and the 6 year almost no interest financing...it shall be around for a while. Already changing out little things, adding things, getting it tuned, etc. so that's a good sign with me.

Terrific deals in some ways and on some things, like the G8. Not that I got huge cash off, but with a nice chunk under invoice and $2k dealer cash, even with a bit of upside down-ness on my Malibu SmartBuy (err...lease, sort of), with the 1.9 financing I'm at a number I'm happy to pay monthly for such a car. I could never work a G8 deal before that seemed plausible, but the February stuff made it happen. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I'm glad it did for me when it did, trade and all.

Very good choices, too, and with very strong driving dynamics. Still small, but larger than an Accent.

We had a 300M, hmm, 8 or so years ago now. A 2000 in Deep Slate with dark charcoal interior and every option except for the Performance Handling Package. Pretty good cars, for sure. Not without their common bugs, but nothing big either, and like a garden variety Intrepid, but quite a rung upwards--yet also just as cheap to maintain as an Intrepid. I know someone still in the 300M Club who has nearly 400k miles on his 2001 and continues to drive it daily with a lot less maintenance/fixing than people would presume. Very careful about when & what is done, of course, and it just keeps on going. http://300mclub.org/index.php Otherwise, the Sonata isn't bad, but probably still too similar to even the tinier Accent he has now...I'd still give it a look, though, especially if it was in great shape.

Sounds like quite the recent life spin;) Welcome back.

1st gen Catera's (yes, I call them by gen too...as an ex Caddy forum frequenter) are a horrible nightmare, and 2nd gen's were improved nicely...but still not the absolute best in terms of reliability. Here's the best place you could ever go to read more, from people who know them inside and out: http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadil...cimarron-forum/ I really like them, especially the '00-01 Sport models (hmm...a-la an earlier version of my G8 Sport?), but if repair cost is one thing you're concerned about, they're not exactly, say, GM W-body, etc. like. They're more German import like, in every way.

Wow, I'm SO close to there but somehow never knew this happened. Very recently, even, they still had a commercial running on a local news station with the owner (as usual) saying never a better time to buy, etc., etc. They were one of the big ones, for sure. Locally, on Delmarva at least in the southern area where I live, we lost a Ford dealership that was probably the most popular in the area who first transitioned to an all used car place (Millsboro Ford-->Car City of Delmarva) that never worked out and went belly up, followed by a Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep dealer at the beach who also cut their franchise and moved to used only (Wright Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep -->to Wright Used Cars) that is still open but looks horrible and has no sign even, and now the GM Giant. The biggies Hertrich and Preston, with multiple complexes, are still open and my GM friends down in Lewes at Lewes Auto Mall (formerly CP Diver) are still doing well enough post new owner, new name, etc. and we still have one Ford dealer. Otherwise, eek. When buying my G8 very recently, a lot of the decision actually came down to the specific dealer and in the end I chose a much smaller, "hometown" dealer but in Jersey and was thrilled at every step of the process. My dollars didn't go locally, but still, they went 2 hours away and will help keep what seems to be a pretty active little place with great reviews pumping along. Oy...wonder why I didn't know this. Hmm...

After speaking with the very informed dealer I bought my G8 from in Jersey, who had actually just come back from a G3 "event" where dealer staff from the area competed in reference to the car (and he ended up winning basketball tickets because he used to sell Chevy's...and "could run circles around them, when it comes to this car"), they're actually happy to see it come. None of us like it and it's badge engineering at its worst, but from a dealer perspective, they just want products for the brands they have that they can sell, and in the experience here, the Aveo was a "great little car that all my customers who had one loved it". They get it, in the "huh?!" way, but you sell what you can sell. I've seen a couple listed...I'm, uh, anxious to see one myself;) As I cruise by in my big scary brother of a G8, hah. To stop hijacking & get back on track...parked next to a new White Diamond Tri-Coat '09 Denali the other day. It was the local dealer owner's girlfriend's latest demo (it seriously took her 3 tries to figure out how to turn into a large parking spot...), and the "Cadillac" color looks great on them too. Now they're just even more Escalade-like, with the color that used to be exclusive--but it looks great.

Yay, you're back!

Sure, we can work something out;) In review, the number of cars I've had in 6 months is a little odd, but I'm finally thrilled...whoa, just whoa. I'll have to tell more sometime. This one was a bit out of left field, but what fun, and believe it or not, financially "happy" fun.

What is your next car purchase? revisited...
caddycruiser replied to intrigued's topic in The Lounge
Aye, yes, MANY possibilities with that one...well, at least as far as choosing which humongous option package block, RWD/AWD, regular or DI 3.6L, manual/automatic, etc...hmm...
