<cynical>That's what large multinational corporations do...corruption is standard business. The public doesn't care, they are too busy w/ reality TV.. </cynical>2 points

Looks awfully tiny to seat 7 adults. I bet it's not 7 dfelt sized adults. the cargo capacity w/ seat down is slightly more than the Blazer.2 points

I won't say that much because y'all need to see it. When I knew that Tony "Lip" Vallelonga was going to be driving him around the Midwest and the South, I knew before I saw the movie there would be a phenomenal scene following that then new Cadillac aerially as it crossed the George Washington Bridge from Manhattan to New Jersey. And there was! Beautifully done. The funniest scene to me may not be the funniest to others. As they start driving off and are in PA, Dr. Shirley starts telling Tony that he needs to clean up his vocabulary because of the sort of people they'll be around. Dr. Shirley said, "I have a problem with your diction." Tony got defensive and told him that everyone understands him just fine. Dr. Shirley looked away and said something like, 'Perhaps your diction has some charm in the tri-state area.' I howled at that one. The movie is definitely very Yankee versus Southerner. And it does rely a lot on stereotyping, which probably held water in 1962. Also, they HAD to cross on the George Washington Bridge because the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge wasn't opened until 1964 or so. Epic flick. A lot of great music from that era, too. I wasn't expecting it.2 points

Crazy to me that if this was GM or Ford.. the news would report on it everyday here in the US. I asked several people have they heard about it.. and each one of them said no. I asked a few about the Firestone debacle at Ford from 20 years ago.. or the GM 4-6-8 engines from 35 years ago.. and each one of them remember it.. and they were all no more than 30 years old themselves2 points

Per the Book of Knowledge: The Model 3 was codenamed Tesla BlueStar in the original business plan in 2007.[49][50] The intended name was Model E, which was abandoned due to Ford trademark. Model 3, originally stylized as "Model ☰", was announced on Musk's Twitter account on July 16, 2014.[51] Musk wanted the three current models to spell SEX, but settled for "S3X".[52] In early 2017, after trademark opposition regarding Adidas's three stripes logo,[53] the triplicate horizontal-bar stylization was abandoned and changed to a numeric "3".[54] I didn't know about the Adidas triple stripe aspect to the naming. The triple stripe reminds me of the hamburger menu seen on the top left or top right of mobile websites..1 point

I read it was Ford that blocked Tesla from using the name 'Model E'...Ford has that trademarked (probably for a future CUV EV). And yes, performance is very much part of the marketing and brand allure of Telsa as is the 'green' EV angle. After all, EVs like the Bolt and Leaf are sold on the 'green' hype angle and not performance. Performance has been used to sell cars for decades, as we all should know. Whether or not the typical driver ever fully uses that performance potential is immaterial..1 point

That and European countries, other than England, stand by their automotive companies no matter what they do... Germans will never turn their backs on the German makes. Proof: Diesel sales in Germany are on the uptick and Im willing to bet the farm the German brands are profiting from that... https://www.motortrader.com/motor-trader-news/automotive-news/january-diesel-sales-increase-bucks-trend-germany-07-02-2019 As far as Boeing goes, I read: https://nationalpost.com/news/heres-the-terrifying-reason-the-737-max-8-is-grounded And apparantly the last accident, the 737 Max 8 was bobbing up and down as well, but the reasons for it doing that is still under investigation. And THAT is another reason why I dont think autonomous driving for cars will EVER happen! Airplanes have had computer flying the aircraft and controlling its flight characteristics for as it seems nowadays...forever. And as you can see, still not perfected. Awesome tech, as a F-117 could not stay in the air without computer control, but accidents do happen, as we could see...and pilots themselves are furious when they cant physically themselves control the airplane... Pilots, are still in the cockpit making decisions on flight controls, yet silicon valley thinks that an autonomous pod without a human being being aware of the driving situations will work out?1 point

I don't think their has been an official AMG version of the Sprinter...I saw a few Sprinters in Phoenix/Scottsdale w/ AMG badging, but I assume someone added the badges. Googling Sprinter AMG I found this from 2005.. https://www.motor1.com/news/54360/mercedes-amg-sprinter-63-s-unveiled-with-503-bhp/1 point

Came across this RHD '90s Opel Blazer from Indonesia in the context of a thread on FB about the '90s Holden Suburban--which used a RHD Blazer dash. Interesting..I knew about the Holden Suburban but wasn't familiar with the Opel Blazer.. http://www.modifikasi.com/showthread.php/303933-Opel-Blazer-DOHC-Biru-Metalik-1996?fbclid=IwAR0sfxdIH25QxeXzmpH5Oqko8mgjyu-rwNEZoSY1y-N7Ecsfzk-ScrdmMTw1 point

Given the hideous nature of the current crop of Acura vehicles it would seem Honda is the one company outside of Applebee's on the planet incapable of hurting itself with marginal product. My father owned one on the Rodeo passports. It was a steaming pile. The Rodeo handed down to the teen girl who used to live next door...rather terrifyingly had the frame rot in amazing ways.1 point

Fantastic performances. Incredible talent. I will say that the little Italian that was spoken, even if it was a dialect such as Sicilian, wasn't as accurate as it should have been. They should have paid a little more attention to that.1 point
-
Mostly accurate, though Dr. Shirley's family disputes some of it. We know the color of the Cadillac was off. The events in the South were more disturbing than in the Midwest. The one event in the Midwest that was really bad took place at Hanover College in Indiana. If that is in the Ohio River Valley part of Indiana, then that would be more Southern and the mentality would have been more hick in 1962. As you can imagine, a new Cadillac with New York plates and a black man in the back being chauffeured around also saw its share of being pulled over by cops. However, without giving it away, the last time one of these that occurs on the way back up North has a positive spin on it and really shows the loyalties and mindset of the people who wrote and backed this movie.1 point

With that much slope to the rear roof, I can imagine the headroom in row 2 and 3 to be pretty bad.1 point

Have not seen it yet, on the movie watch list. I see what you posted so far on the movie. Does sound interesting. Do you feel it was period accurate on all the messaging?1 point

Smaller than the Model X but we are expected to believe that it carries seven people? That must be some serious chronic Elon is smoking.1 point

I like both lead actors...Viggo Mortensen was great in 'History of Violence' and many other films, and like Mahershala Ali from his recent turn in season 3 of 'True Detective'...1 point

I haven't seen it...probably will, but I did see an article about the inaccuracies w/ the '62 Cadillac in it...(the car they used was more worn than it should have been for the period, etc).1 point

I'm sure in Germany and other markets in Europe this was a Big Deal in the news, but in the US the diesel VWAG models had such a tiny market share that they didn't get much media attention beyond the automotive press... the Explorer tires issue, Takata airbags issue, GM ignition issue were all fatal flaws and affected millions of vehicles in the US market...a few diesel VWs with poor emissions? Not a big deal here.1 point

At the rate they are going Hyundai might just hand Benz their a-s-s....... They aren’t playing anymore...and the product shows. Benz has them beat in resale- then then Hyundai will make a nice used car value.....1 point

Not sure about Rami Malek as a Bond villain. As for an EV Aston Martin, bring it on.1 point

Yup. Welcome to the trade wars. I do not see many winners, but consumers will always be the big losers.1 point

Oh I’m not disagreeing with Honda’s overall resale but the name alone will hurt it just a little bit lol. The last Passport, like the Rodeo, was pure garbage and some older folks probably haven’t forgotten that even if they are two very different vehicles from each other.1 point

Aren't you an American? Same goes for Europe! I was in the UK last week, getting new tyres for my British Leyland P76, and they still have rim sizes in INCHES there! Probably too fucking stupid to comprehend how to go full metric - wonder when they're going to do that. - - - - - There IS NO math or computations involving an engine displacement call-out on a motor vehicle. It's not part of a formula, you don't have to involve it in any conversions, dissection of it's meaning is not required for legal operation... you don't do ANYTHING with it. No one is required or even asked to convert CI to soda bottles. The designation literally just sits there like a cartoon outline drawing of a ladybug. Just like when VW was selling the original Beetle in the US 50 for decades with "1600" on the decklid; if you own a Challenger 392, EVEN IF you're continually shipping all around the world and driving it in various counties, it literally doesn't make a goddamn difference what units the size is called out it. Saying all engine displacements should be done in one size "cause math" is even more fucking stupid than saying everyone in the world should speak one language. THAT at least involves interaction/ communication, commerce, understanding, etc... but try and push that idea.1 point

The passport has obscenely high resale which was the point. Applebees offers God awful good and service...and sells food all over the country. If your going to sell drivel to the masses it might as well be profitable. I like them just fine. It's just that the XT6 is the Applebees or Olive Garden of Luxury SUVs. But don't feel insulted...BMW is like an over rated French restaurant that over promises and under delivers.1 point

I love the logic that somehow you cannot criticize said car or car company if you never plan on driving or buying one. If that’s the case, then I guess most of us would have nothing to talk about here. ? Just dumb is what it is, in reality.1 point

Trade war is causing auto makers to decide what markets to build in. I expect a few more announcements like this due to the current climate of DC.1 point

Yes... they just work, work well, and you don't have to do much out of the box. As a software engineer I deal with endless, multi-level complexity on a daily basis....don't want to deal with it in my phone or my car...1 point
